My mum has had a very happy six months at the Abbeys, the staff are amazing and treated mum like a relative. Mum was on day trips, entertained regularly with regular singers and no expense spared on making residents like mum happy.
My mum sadly died on the 9/12/25 but for mums end of life care the
previous 9 nights mum was treated exceptionally, we stayed with mum round the clock until her passing but we were provided meals, drinks literally nothing was any trouble for the wonderful staff who we will miss.
Dedication from all staff and everyone was brilliant but Lisa/Kat/Amanda/Zoe/Kirsten, Courtney and Jaime and thank you all.
Reply from Jamie Morgan, Manager at The Abbeys Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to leave such a heartfelt and touching review.
We are truly honoured that your mum spent her final months with us and that we were able to make that time happy, comfortable, and full of meaningful moments. It means so much to us to hear that she enjoyed the trips, the entertainment, and the daily life here at the Abbeys.
We are deeply sorry for your loss, and our thoughts remain with you and your family. It was a privilege to care for your mum, especially during her final days. We are glad we could support both her and your family during that difficult time and provide some comfort while you stayed with her around the clock.
Your kind words about our team mean the world to us. We will be sure to pass on your thanks to Lisa, Kat, Amanda, Zoe, Kirsten, Courtney and all our staff, who truly do give their hearts to the care they provide.
Thank you again for trusting us with your mum's care. She will always be remembered fondly by our team.

We were able to place my dad in The Abbeys at very short notice. We were very pleased with how responsive they were to our needs. All of the staff are very helpful and caring. There is a good dining room and lounge for the residents. We felt our Dad was very safe at The Abbeys and well looked after.
There is good parking for visitors and we were always able to find a spot.
Reply from Jamie Morgan, Manager at The Abbeys Care HomeThanks so much for your feedback! We really appreciate it, and well make sure our team hears itthey work incredibly hard.

The worst I could have imagined.
We asked that mum was watched to make sure she took her medication. Found pills on the floor, under bed in the sheets. Despite asking 3 x nothing changed. While mum was in respite care we asked them to ring for a doctor for mum this wasn't done. We asked for mums drinks
to be monitored has she can become easily dehydrated and then confused. Every day I visited drinks bottle almost empty every time. Empty catheter bag was on the sink for 3 weeks . Mum has only one leg,no core balance she was put in her wheel chair without seat belt on. She slipped out some of the carers were pleasant. The food wasn't great. Not the best quality mum missed quite a few meals because she didn't want to eat it. We had to bring in food for her. I wouldn't recommend this care home. There was not enougth staff. First night mum slept in her clothes they didn't come to change her. Her pads were only changed once per day. Inadequate care given in my opinion
Reply from Jamie Morgan, Manager at The Abbeys Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share your concerns regarding your mother's recent stay with us. We are very sorry to hear that you felt her care was not to the expected standard. The well being, safety, and dignity of our residents is our highest priority, and we take all feedback very seriously, we acknowledge and hear your concerns.

We are committed to using your feedback to review and improve these areas to ensure the highest standard of care for all our residents. Following a thorough review of our records, staff reports, and observations during your mother's stay, we have found no evidence to support some of the specific concerns raised. We also note that during this period of care, no concerns were directly raised to the management team whom were available in the home daily to provide support and work through these concerns.

Should you ever need care or support in the future we would be more than happy to provide our services.

My brother had been a resident of The Abbeys for approx 5 years until his death on Wed 13/5. I can not thank this care home highly enough. The staff have been incredible with my brothers care (he had parkinsons). He was cared for with dignity being true professionals but also all had an extremely friendly
attitude. The past yearhad not been easy for him and his attitude sometimes was questionable but they all dealt with this as a matter of lowse. Would recommend to anyone.

I found Abbeys care home to be a delightful place with a lovely garden attached. The staff all seemed very patient and caring. I left just before they were going to serve fish and chips which smelt delicious. I corresponded with the one staff member in particular the most who was so helpful to me and
clearly puts so much into making sure all the residents are happy and entertained. I certainly recommend here.

Mum has now been at The Abbeys for two-and-a-half years, Mum lost mobility due to 6 week stay in hospital with no physio, the first 3 months she found hard to settle, she has always said the food was excellent, the staff I know most by name have been so good to her and love to talk when change to do
so. One staff member in particular is amazing, the manager is always trying to find new things to do for residents.

The level of care is excellent at all times staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Food is of a very high standard. The rooms are always clean. Entertainment is regular and usually Elvis is playing or similar music and the residents sing along. Trips out make a lovely change and the residents
love the change of scenery.

My aunt chose The Abbeys as her final home herself and always felt she had made the best choice - we had researched several on her behalf. She and the staff grew fond of each other, as did we, her family. We all enjoyed each other's company. Her concerns, when she had any, were respected and discussed
with her and acted upon appropriately. We kept in touch with the staff between our visits, which gave us added peace of mind. Throughout 2024 the wellness lead stimulated her to join many of the outings being offered. It was so good to see how much she was enjoying this variety in her life. During her final months, she and us took great comfort in knowing she was very well looked after. The warmth and care every member of staff has given has been truly heartwarming. The whole family say a huge thank you. She called The Abbeys her home. It is a wonderful example of what the best care home should be - what we all want for our families.

We moved Mum into The Abbeys for respite care when our Dad was at end-of-life care in a hospice. This was a challenging time for us as a family and knowing Mum was safe and well looked after was a huge support. Mum then took the decision to stay and has been settled and happy. The staff are what makes
this a very special place. They took the time to get to know Mum and involve her in activities and outings. We would highly recommend this care home. It is never easy making this sort of decision but we feel our mum has thrived with the high quality of care of such dedicated professionals.

My dad has lived at The Abbeys for almost 12 months. He has a nice room and is really looked after and safe. The nursing staff, carers, cooks and domestic staff are all very friendly and dad is really settled after living independently all his adult life. The staff really helped him through his settling-in
period. Dad now considers The Abbeys his home. There are various activities every week. The lady who organises things works really hard to stay relevant. Sometimes Dad goes on special trips and they even take him fishing from time to time. As a family, we are confident that Dad is getting the best out of life here. We certainly don't have the constant stress and worry of wondering if he's ok. Thank you to The Abbeys.

My auntie was only at The Abbeys a few months before her death at 99 years old. The care given to her was respectful and loving, she was a quiet lady and they understood that. The staff also looked after the family when we visited Auntie. The day Auntie passed away the staff looked after Auntie and
the family with love and dignity. I would recommend The Abbeys if you are looking for care for a loved one.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.762)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.762) out of 10 for The Abbeys Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 22 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.762 for The Abbeys Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (223 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (3 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 261 Ratings = 4.762
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Abbeys Care Home is based on 21 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16, which has been reached with 21 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I've worked my way up to senior and love the community here at The Abbeys. I enjoy embracing new skills and practices and seeing our team and residents thrive.
