Making a decision to place a loved one in a care home is a difficult one for all involved. We couldn't have been more supported by the manager at this carehome. She was understanding and accommodating. She put our minds at rest and gave us much confidence that our mother would be well supported and taken care of - standout points to note are:
- a sense of calm
- residents looked clean and tidy
- dining and lounge areas are inviting
- staff we met were helpful and kind

After looking at other care homes, we were happy to have found Swallonest.

My mum is a permanent resident in this lovely care home; she has settled in well and made friends with the other residents and the fantastic staff that work here. It is reassuring to know that she has round-the-clock care. The staff help her every morning to dress, and they take her down for dinner every day. The residents can take part in various social activities throughout the week, ranging from, occasionally, live entertainment and sometimes a quiz, and last week, she was out in their patio area, helping the care home plant some garden plants ready for today's open day. Her room is set up to meet her own personal needs. All the care staff in this care home are so friendly and caring. It wouldn't be fair not to mention the lovely staff who clean her room and the maintenance man who helped my mum make her room her own. For us, as a family, I love spending the day here at the home with my mum when I can, and we are made to feel welcome too.

Excellent rearranging of the care home. Much more appropriate for those who are unable to mix. So peaceful! Fantastic result for residents, staff and visitors. Also better for those in the main building who are much more active and have better access to the facilities available.

My brother has been a resident since early December. After a spell in the hospital,

he was no longer able to return to his house to cope alone and having two family members in care homes previously; I can honestly say that Swallownest is the nicest, friendliest home I've been in. It really does feel like home-from-home; very welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble. I can safely say that you won't regret choosing Swallownest Care Home for your loved one.

Mum was unable to cope at home and reluctantly moved into Swallownest Care Home. It took a couple of weeks for her to settle in, but the staff became her friends. As her needs changed, so did the care she received until she passed away.
Although not an ideal situation, Swallownest Care Home made the most of the situation, offering friendship and care.

Too many lovely staff to mention!

After looking at several homes for my mum, we settled on Swallownest Care Home, and thank goodness we did. From our initial meeting to getting Mum settled made a very unhappy time better for us all as the staff listened not only to Mum but to us as a family too. The care, love and support were great, and it made my mum's and our last eight months bearable, giving us time to spend with her as a family. Thank you for everything.

Lovely home-from-home. All staff (from maintenance to manager) are very good. Mum loves all the entertainment the home provides and loves to join in the singing. The food is very good too (especially the puddings!). The residents have activities which they can join in if they want to. Mum has been here quite a few years and loves it.

My mother came to Swallownest for end-of-life care. She was only a resident for one week, but my experience was that the carers couldn't do enough for the residents. We were allowed/encouraged to put photos and memorabilia on the walls to bring familiarity to an unfamiliar room. We were always met with cheerful smiles, and my mother was treated with kindness and dignity. The staff always made themselves available if we had any questions.

Mum has recently moved into Swallownest Care Home at the age of 101. I would like to thank all the hardworking staff there for making my mum welcome and helping her to settle in. As you can imagine, it is very daunting to give up your independence at this age. Mum is being very well cared for, and the staff make a real effort to make sure she is well dressed and looking her best. Despite being apprehensive at first, she is now happy to go to the day room with the other residents and eat her meals in the dining room. Thank you again to all the wonderful and hardworking staff. We really do appreciate everything you have done for her.

My mum moved into Swallownest Care Home in September 2019 and was very happy and well cared for. She was treated with dignity and respect, and we are very grateful to everyone involved in her care. Sadly Mum has now passed away, and we were very touched by how everyone came outside to pay their respects on her funeral day, and staff members and manager came to the church service. If anyone is looking for a good care home for a loved one, I would highly recommend Swallownest.

We were moving my mother’s things from Wales to the Swallownest nursing home. I phoned the home after getting slightly lost, the member of staff was very helpful and remained on the phone until we turned onto Chesterfield Road. To my surprise, when we pulled up, we were greeted by two members of staff who were waiting outside for us. After a very long journey which started in the West Midlands, it was lovely to be greeted by such friendly staff. They asked about our journey and if we had eaten. We were shown to the room which was allocated to my mother. The staff made us a much-welcomed tray of tea and biscuits, plus the offer of sandwiches if we wanted. All the staff we met were friendly and welcoming, which gave us a sense of comfort knowing my mother would be cared for. The home was very clean and peaceful.

From the outset, the staff at Swallownest have been warm, welcoming and calmly reassuring at a time when stress and worry can overtake...
Every effort was made to ensure Aunty’s transition from the hospital was as comfortable as possible. This could potentially have been extremely traumatic, given the significance of this major life-changing event.
My aunt is now happily settled and has made the decision that she would like to stay at Swallownest. She is enjoying the company/care/laughter and is no longer in fear of not coping at home alone.
On the very first day, one lady FaceTimed us... it is the individual staff member’s thoughtfulness and compassion that is impossible to quantify but makes all the difference. It is in fact, priceless to residents and families to know that staff go "over and above" to meet physical and emotional needs.

Thank you to all.

My mum settled into life at Swallownest Care Home despite the pandemic's restrictions. She looks really well, is always clean, well dressed and smiling. She takes part in some of the activities arranged by the well-being lady and is becoming quite the artist. She loves having her nails painted. Thank you; you do an amazing job.

Mum loves the food at Swallownest, especially the breakfast. She enjoys the fudge with her tea as well.

A big thank you to all the wonderful carers who look after Mum and not forgetting the front of house lady who is always friendly and informative. The manager should be really proud of this team; they are great.

It is such a relief to know that Mum is getting well looked after and that she appears really happy. Can't wait for her to be able to go out on day trips once these strange days are over.

Mum moved to Swallownest Care Home after a series of nasty falls at home in March 2019.
Her quality of life has improved 100% and she’s even put on weight! All of the staff are very welcoming and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. During lockdown, the staff have done an amazing job keeping everyone safe in difficult times for everyone. Contact has been maintained with Mum by weekly video calls arranged through Dawn the wellbeing coordinator, although it’s not quite the same the calls have proved to be a great way of staying in touch.

The manager and her team deserve great credit for all that they have done and I would recommend Swallownest to anyone who is making the difficult decision of moving a loved one into a care home.

Swallownest Care Home has completely altered my impression of nursing homes. It is clean and spacious. Rooms for eating, resting and socialising. Our father plays games; as part of Swallownests’ in-house rehabilitation. The activities coordinator and staff have built up a lovely relationship with our father.

At a time when relatives emotions are running high, the manager and secretary are extremely professional and equally empathetic and very kind. They listen and guide you through the process of establishing suitable care for your relative right from the hospital discharge. The nursing staff have a wealth of experience. Any concerns are always raised promptly with the family. We would highly recommend this care home.

My mother spent the last few days of her life in the care of the staff at Swallownest Care Home. She was treated with compassion, respect and professional duty of care that could not be surpassed. Family members were also treated with sympathy and care and encouraged to spend precious time together. Her final hours passed peacefully with family by her bedside. Thank you to everyone.

I'd just like to say how great all the staff have been.
During Covid, the staff have been fantastic. One lady used her own personal mobile to allow me to FaceTime my mum during the lockdown. Another lady has dealt with my visits re testing very well.
More recently, the manager dealt efficiently with my concerns over an end of life funding issue.
I would recommend this home for anyone's parents.

Thanks to all of you.
