Swallownest Care Home take care of all the needs of the residents and treat them individually. They're always there to help whatever their needs and talk and treat residents with the respect they deserve.
The surroundings are very homely and they all have their own individual rooms which they can make
their own home from home.
They serve up a variety of lunches, teas, and breakfast, catering to all their individual tastes.

Mum is well cared for. I spoke to the nurse, who reassured me about Mum's crying outbursts and her ongoing health problems.
I observed staff speaking to Mum cheerfully and getting her out of crying spells, which she had quite a few of, on this visit.
The wellbeing coordinator was very helpful and
gave me more memory card games to do with Mum, which helps to focus her mind and memory, but also gives us a positive shared experience and aids us talking about things we remember from our past.

From day one, mum was made welcome and made to feel that it was her home. She was well cared for and treated her with respect and dignity. All staff work extremely hard and always say Hello. The care here compared to mum's old home was second to none. The home is clean and the food is good quality and
varied. The staff were there and supported our wishes. I can say the facilities in the home are great. Plenty of shows, events and external visits. The care coordinator likes to take the residents out and they have good links with the local community.
I have just been informed that the minibus has been removed. This will affect the residents' getting out to local events and the seaside. The transport was used every week, on numerous occasions. I do hope that HC One will see that this is a mistake and reinstate the much-needed bus.

Please pass on a big thank you to all of the staff for all their hard work in making the home feel a Home and not an institution.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Swallownest Care HomeThank you for your review and for making us aware of your concerns regarding plans for the minibus. Our current minibuses are 7 years old and in need of replacement. We have reviewed options for replacement of the minibuses and explored the possibility of sharing them whilst ensuring we could meet the needs of our Residents during times when the minibus might be elsewhere. For most homes, the minibus is used just a few times a week whilst in others they are used more often, for a few hours each day. By using our buses in a different way, we want to ensure we do not compromise how we support our Residents, but also allow us to make better use of each bus. Some of our homes have already been operating a shared minibus approach over the last 2 years and we have found this works well in most locations, especially as it has allowed the homes to share drivers. The replacement bus will be used across 7 days and there will be an organised system of booking in advance to help support the homes the bus is allocated to. We are confident that once the new system is embedded Residents will continue to have good access to a minibus to take them out and about.

My mother transferred here from another nursing home in Sheffield also belonging to the HC1 group. The difference is unbelievable The care she is receiving here is second to none. The manager and her entire team are exceptional. The lady in entertainments has boundless energy and makes time for everyone.
The care team are terrific treating everyone as an individual and with such devotion can't thank them enough. The place is spotlessly clean so a massive thanks to the domestics. The kitchen team produce marvellous meals for the residents and cope with everyone needs diabetic, vegan and fussy eaters they too deserve some recognition. A massive thank you. You have brought a smile back to my mum's face xx

The carers at Swallownest care home have all helped to bring my father to life again. Prior to coming in here there were parts of my dad's personality lost that I didn't think as a family we would ever see again, but because of their caring, professional approach we have my dad back again. We looked
at a few homes and we knew this was the right choice.

I have quite a few friends living in the home now. I would certainly recommend this home.

My mum has lived at Swallownest since July 17 as a permanent resident but before had 16 weeks respite in 2016.
Staff are very good, good activities well organised.
Much more happens here than in other homes, we as the family get involved, are encouraged to get involved, and spend quality time with
my mum, I cannot fault this home.
Love the home as a minibus and residents get lots of opportunities to go out and about and mix with other people.
The manager has an open door policy and you always see her interacting with residents, it's great to see.
The home is very clean no odours, I enjoy coming to the home, it's a pleasure.

The home was very clean and tidy. There were several lounges to relax in. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The entertainment was pretty good. In the last few days of my Mum's life, we stayed around her bed most of the time and the staff couldn't do enough for us. The main nurse that saw Mum
was brilliant. When my Mum passed, they dressed her and made her look lovely. When the funeral director took my Mum away, they lined up to pay their last respects. So glad my Mum spent her last 2 weeks in this home.

All the staff are extremely helpful and willing to go above and beyond. Everyone is always friendly and cheerful. It is not a care home, its a home. The Wellbeing coordinator is an absolute star. She is relentless when it comes to keeping the resident soccupied and happy. The food is excellent and perfect

My Mother entered the home for end of life care. The staff were respectful, caring both of my Mum and of her family when we visited at all hours of day and night. My Mother looked the happiest she had looked for many months and the manner of her passing was painless and loving. We, the family, are extremely
grateful to the staff for giving us this reassuring memory of our Mum in her last weeks of life. A big thank you.

I couldn't have wished for a more friendly, helpful greeting when first visiting the nursing home when my 98-year-old mother required more care than I could provide. The manager and nursing staff all gave mother excellent care, help and attention, especially as she became more confused and occasionally
disgruntled. They always managed to cheer her up, have a laugh and a joke and just a chat from time to time. Mum was quite reticent when meeting new people but all the staff helped her to feel part of a family. I can't praise them enough. They all work extremely hard. It is a very busy nursing home but the staff always make time for you and nothing is too much trouble for them.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.814)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.814) out of 10 for Swallownest Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.814 for Swallownest Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (247 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 291 Ratings = 4.814
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Swallownest Care Home is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
