My father was admitted to Swallownest after spending a month in a palliative care unit. My family and I were naturally anxious at him being moved from a medical environment, with doctors at hand, to a nursing home, where it would be a local GP service and community palliative team that would provide his medical care. The balance between a hospital environment and a nursing home has its advantages and disadvantages and there were times when we were concerned at the staffing levels at Swallownest but this was not the fault of the staff/management at the home. The staff that cared for my dad were very kind and also took time to consider my family's stress at the situation we faced. My dad liked the staff very much which was a comfort to know. It was clear they cared. The carers work long shifts and were often run off their feet. I wish for their sake there were more staff. They were all lovely to my dad and I am grateful for their care to him. Moving him to the nursing home was the right decision.
Excellent. Staff are all very considerate and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble.
I cannot rate this care home highly enough. My dad had a stroke in November 2018 and suffers with dementia. He was so independent prior to this stroke that the thought of him moving to a home filled me with dread. I needn't have worried. I visited a few times (unannounced) before he moved in and was always happy with what I saw, there was a good feel about it. All the staff are brilliant, good at their job, genuinely supportive, caring and kind. Hugs and kisses are freely given! The staff morale is excellent, which clearly has a positive effect on the residents and their families too. I visit regularly and I witness the warmth and support that the staff provide. Varied activities take place often, and are well planned and great fun! I never imagined seeing Dad joining in with a singalong and yet he was smiling and singing his heart out. Food is excellent too. A huge, heartfelt thank you to all staff, they go that extra mile to make this place wonderful.
It's so good to see mum with a smile on her face every day when we visit. The nursing staff are always on hand when mum hs her epilepsy episodes/mini-strokes etc. They have taken a big weight off my shoulders. I feel 100% confident mum has the best care we could wish for.
My Dad was in respite in another local care home, fortunately, we had the opportunity to move him into Swallownest. The difference in care is unbelievable. As a family, we are happy and can now relax knowing my Dad is in safe caring hands.
Thank you to everyone at Swallownest.
The surroundings are very homely and they all have their own individual rooms which they can make their own home from home.
They serve up a variety of lunches, teas, and breakfast, catering to all their individual tastes.
I observed staff speaking to Mum cheerfully and getting her out of crying spells, which she had quite a few of, on this visit.
The wellbeing coordinator was very helpful and gave me more memory card games to do with Mum, which helps to focus her mind and memory, but also gives us a positive shared experience and aids us talking about things we remember from our past.
I have just been informed that the minibus has been removed. This will affect the residents' getting out to local events and the seaside. The transport was used every week, on numerous occasions. I do hope that HC One will see that this is a mistake and reinstate the much-needed bus.
Please pass on a big thank you to all of the staff for all their hard work in making the home feel a Home and not an institution.
Thank you for your review and for making us aware of your concerns regarding plans for the minibus. Our current minibuses are 7 years old and in need of replacement. We have reviewed options for replacement of the minibuses and explored the possibility of sharing them whilst ensuring we could meet...
My mother transferred here from another nursing home in Sheffield also belonging to the HC1 group. The difference is unbelievable The care she is receiving here is second to none. The manager and her entire team are exceptional. The lady in entertainments has boundless energy and makes time for everyone. The care team are terrific treating everyone as an individual and with such devotion can't thank them enough. The place is spotlessly clean so a massive thanks to the domestics. The kitchen team produce marvellous meals for the residents and cope with everyone needs diabetic, vegan and fussy eaters they too deserve some recognition. A massive thank you. You have brought a smile back to my mum's face xx
Very good care home. Visit my father-in-law regularly. He is happy and well looked after he is 97. Good staff, friendly and home managed well. No problems at all.
Very well looked after.
The carers at Swallownest care home have all helped to bring my father to life again. Prior to coming in here there were parts of my dad's personality lost that I didn't think as a family we would ever see again, but because of their caring, professional approach we have my dad back again. We looked at a few homes and we knew this was the right choice.
My dad has just been in respite, he was very well looked after, great food, lovely room, friendly staff. We cannot fault the home and would use it again without any hesitation, the best we looked at by a mile.
My sister has been in the home for 3 years she is very happy and settled, I cannot praise the home enough, she came from another care home where she was not happy she has improved so much since coming to Swallownest, staff are amazing she could not have better care, the home is managed very well , nothing is to much trouble and so clean no smells . lots of activities and outings I wish she had come to this home first, if you would like to call me on my mobile I will tell you how good it is, FANTASTIC, Manager always happy to talk to you,, cannot praise the home enough.
I have quite a few friends living in the home now. I would certainly recommend this home.
I have friends in the home. I am made welcome when I visit. I see friends of the home when they come to our local coffee morning
I cannot praise this home enough. I visit regularly and all I see is positive things. Activities are fantastic. So clean and everyone is well cared for. I would recommend this home to anyone. A very friendly manager and staff, always smiling and food always smells and looks delicious. Nothing is too much trouble for anyone who works at the home,
Staff are very good, good activities well organised.
Much more happens here than in other homes, we as the family get involved, are encouraged to get involved, and spend quality time with my mum, I cannot fault this home.
Love the home as a minibus and residents get lots of opportunities to go out and about and mix with other people.
The manager has an open door policy and you always see her interacting with residents, it's great to see.
The home is very clean no odours, I enjoy coming to the home, it's a pleasure.
Swallownest is an excellent home. My mother has been in two and a half years and we (as a family) are extremely happy with the care and attention she is receiving.
The home was very clean and tidy. There were several lounges to relax in. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The entertainment was pretty good. In the last few days of my Mum's life, we stayed around her bed most of the time and the staff couldn't do enough for us. The main nurse that saw Mum was brilliant. When my Mum passed, they dressed her and made her look lovely. When the funeral director took my Mum away, they lined up to pay their last respects. So glad my Mum spent her last 2 weeks in this home.
