My friend had a fall while she was in bed. I told the manager the day before she needed a bed side, and he told me she doesn't need bed side because she does not move in bed. The next day, she fell out of bed. The only things on the floor were 3 mats so she had a mark on her forehead. When I went last week, I got there at 10.30 am and my friend was shouting 'Nurse'. I walked in and gave her the buzzer. I said they won't hear because they are always short of staff.

We would like to thank you for raising your concerns regarding bedrails.
All residents are assessed to ascertain if bedrails are required.

We offer alternatives to bedrails to ensure all our residents are safe and all equipment is risk assessed and the care plan updated to ensure it is specific to the individual resident.

Management did not know much of what was happening. End of life care was not good enough, only checked on every two hours, this I feel was not good enough.

Reply from Claire Hurworth, Careline Manager at Alexander Court Care Home

Home Managers are fully aware of the circumstances around each Resident when admitted to our Care Homes. We pride ourselves in giving excellent End of Life Care and ensure that staff are with residents in the absence of family members and respect their wishes.

Most of the staff are excellent but one or two need a little training in diplomacy as to what is acceptable when speaking with agitated patients. The food is excellent and they offer other things if the menu is not wanted. The home is very clean and welcoming to all patients, family and friends anytime. The newsletter is very informative as to events and news. Wonderful activities and a really nice atmosphere. The manager always pops in to say hello and to check if anything is needed. Lovely home and people.

My mother has settled in extremely well. Her care has been extremely good and she sees this as her home. The atmosphere of the home is lively and engaging and mother has joined in with many of the activities.

There have been a few niggles with her care plan which hopefully will be resolved soon but generally, things have gone well, with staff responding quickly to any issues.

My uncle passed away in January 2017, but we never felt unhappy with anything that couldn't be discussed. The staff were very good in all areas.

My nephew was getting married close by to the care home. I wondered if I could get my mum to the wedding. I just happened to mention it and before I could blink, one of the carer's (mum's favourite - she calls her the third daughter) offered to dress her, do her hair and with the offer from the entertainment helper, who drove the mini bus, Mum went to the wedding.

It was even the day off of one of the carers, she came in just for "mum". They are like a family. Both girls went above and beyond. Unbelievable. The girls were fantastic. Love them.

My mother is at the point of needing to move into a care home so, having previously visited, the manager offered an afternoon (12 to 4pm) to experience a meal time and few hours in Alexander Court. From the moment we arrived she was welcomed by name and taken to meet other residents. When I collected her later she'd had a really good experience, commenting on the high quality and variety of food, the helpfulness and support of all the staff, and the entertainment offered through the afternoon. The home also loaned me a folding wheelchair without charge to enable me to get her there.

My wife was first put into another home by the NHS in August 2010 - June 2014. During her stay she broke her wrist and her hip. Because of her hip she developed a grade 4 bed sore at the bottom of her spine. It took 2 years to heal, she has never walked since As soon as the bed sore healed, I moved her to Alexander, it was like going from a b&b to a 5 star hotel. The Alexander is wonderful, clean, good food, great staff and an excellent manager.

In January 2015 my uncle was in another place and they were in need of his bed. My husband and i were working hard to get my uncles home habitable and safe for him to return to but were struggling to complete it as we had full time jobs and a young family. I phoned Alexander Court to ascertain whether my uncle could have respite care for a short time whilst his home was finished. They took him, he was extremely comfortable, safe and happy and he decide to stay. We have no complaints.

My husband has been a resident of Alexandra Court since March 2015. he has been in another home for two years, I moved him because he was not looked after. Since day one I have found all the carers and other staff so kind and caring to him. The residents are treated with respect and dignity, I cannot praise the home enough.

As I visit a friend in Alexander Court I can only form and opinion from what he says and he seems to be quite happy with everything at Alexander Court. He has never complained to me about anything whatsoever. If he is happy then so am I.

Rachael HarfordJob Title:Registered Manager and NurseJoined: 2024

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2013 and spent my first years working within the NHS on both medical admissions and critical care. It is here that I gained my clinical experience and developed the skills and knowledge required to provide excellent resident care. I then moved into Care Homes and have worked for numerous years at both the Deputy and Manager level. I have completed my Level 5 Qualification IAO Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care for Adults and my passion is to ensure that our residents live a life where they are valued, loved and cared for as one of our own. I want our home to feel like their home and I want their family and friends to feel welcome into our home-from-home environment.

I have an open-door policy so please feel free to come and meet me when I am in Monday to Friday.

Thank you and I look forward to meeting you all soon
