Overall Experience
Mum has been at Alpine a year now and from the start every member of staff we have come into contact with has been kind caring and helpful.
Mum has always received a high level of care.

In the last 3 months there has been a change in home manager which has seen some changes being noticeable some small things, catering options at teatime being tested and adjusted, some large such as more areas of resident interaction stimulation, these changes seem to be a development in progress with the main aim being the care, health, welfare and environment for all the residents.

Reply from Keeley Slack, Home Manager at Alpine Lodge

Thank you very much Bev B, for your lovely review. Your feedback and support towards the home is much appreciated. I am very glad that you are seeing the positive changes throughout the home and that the changes are of course for benefit of our resident's health and well being.

The staff here are brilliant, they have looked after my mum who suffers with dementia for the last year, and are always upbeat, friendly, and polite.
They show all residents the due care, respect, and courtesy that they deserve, especially in these challenging times, and keep spirits up.

All the people who work there deserve a medal and recognition for the fantastic job they do, I am more than happy to recommend anyone to trust these lovely men and women to look after their loved ones.

A proper community facility, as most staff and patients are Stocksbridgers with family connections among staff and between staff and patients, which might explain why staff are both extremely friendly and committed, compared to other care homes (from our experience re respite), despite our mum being non-complaint, feisty; aggressive at times.
The whole building - lounges, dining room, bedrooms and corridors - is spacious, light, well-equipped and invariably clean. And the food’s good. Decor is regularly renewed: new corridor carpets are being laid, and a lounge has been made into a mock-up cafe in a bye-gone small-town high street.

This is part of a new impetus - most importantly, eliminating the use of agency staff - by a new manageress, who is at least as personable as the care staff; very down-to-earth, no-nonsense. In five years making visits at least twice weekly, we’ve not had reason to complain, so don’t recognise the CQC review. It’s an excellent care home for late-stage dementia sufferers.

My 92-year-old Mum has just completed a week-long spell of respite care at Alpine Lodge. The staff have all been friendly and helpful. My mum loved the food and the company. Her room was clean and comfy, she enjoyed her stay.

My mum is happy there and loves it, she tells me the food is good, the staff are helpful, they are strict with medicine and that is a good thing. The home is clean, so far I have no complaints about this home at all, at the end of the day, all I want is for my mum to be happy and she is.

We came to visit our mother for the first time and were greeted by such helpful and courteous staff. They couldn't have been more helpful. During our visit they were so attentive to both our mum and ourselves.

We were struck by the wonderful and homely atmosphere. It was so reassuring to know that she is so well looked after by such genuine and caring staff.

I entered Alpine Lodge following a hip replacement. I was made so welcome and the staff could not do enough for me.
I was in for two weeks and really enjoyed the experience apart from the painful hip!

The meals I enjoyed and the nursing care was excellent. It was a very happy atmosphere.

Overall Experience
My experience of the home was suggested by a village doctor and of one or two weeks. I preferred one and my experience commenced immediately due to staff courtesy which applied all week.
My room was modern and comfortable.
My only complaint was the strength of my room fire door. Entry and exit were difficult for me, by night carers and staff helped and a buzzer was beside the bed 24 hours.
Food was excellent and toilet facilities were easily available throughout.

I was sad not to have conversed with patients due to their conditions and my deafness but staff were always helpful.

My husband is the service user. I hold Power of Attorney for his financial matters. He is unable to sign his name because of his condition but I am satisfied the opinions in the ticked boxes would be shared by him. I am very happy with the care my husband is receiving.

My mother is very happy at Alpine Lodge. This tells me her physical and emotional needs are being cared for. Given the needs of the residents, I often feel that general cleaning does not take place often enough.

Daytime staff are generally excellent but night staff are often temporary and not as aware of my mother's needs. Improved continuity of staff would, therefore, be appreciated.

Dad has been here at Alpine Lodge for the last 4 years, I am very happy to leave him in the safe hands of the care staff here at Alpine Lodge. His needs are catered for with the care and consideration that a 95-year-old man with dementia required. The staff are very welcoming and very attentive with each resident. Great care is taken to make sure they are well fed and clean. In my experience, the staff look after their residents as they would look after members of their own family. Very reassuring.

Alpine Lodge is a modern and very well run nursing home. The service provided is exceptional in all aspects and the staff are even more exceptional. They care dearly about the residents and and look after them in a loving way. My Mum was a resident for a few weeks entering with a terminal illness. The end of her life care and love she was given was very special. The family and I are so pleased we chose Alpine Lodge for my Mum's last few weeks.
