From the moment my mother-in-law needed full-time nursing care, we could not have found a nicer home. As soon as she was transferred from the Hospital she was met by the most caring staff who made her feel as if she was home from home. She was treated with the utmost care and attention, with dignity
and compassion. For which we were eternally grateful, even up to the end. Whilst visiting, we were always met with smiling faces of both staff and residents, it was always clean and fresh and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We can only say we appreciated all you did in caring for Mum whilst she was in your care. Thank you all.
Reply from Keeley Slack, Home Manager at Alpine LodgeThank you for your very kind and lovely review Pauline. It is so good to hear that you were happy with the care and treatment your mother-in-law received from us. Our team try their absolute best to ensure that each resident receives the best standards of care which is person-centred to each individual. Thank you again and take care.

My Mother in Law was greeted with smiles and reassurance. her room is small but extremely clean with en-suite. All her needs are catered for by friendly capable staff. The food is good and she enjoyed her lunch.

My 89-year-old mother had to go into Alpine Lodge after suffering numerous falls at home and needing full-time nursing care. I spoke to the manager at Alpine who reassured me that my mother would be well looked after there. My mother went in the day before Good Friday where she was met at the door by
very welcoming staff. Obviously, I have not been able to go into the home due to the Coronavirus situation, but upon seeing the reception area, it looked lovely, clean and smelt very fresh. Since her going in, I have been kept fully up to date on her well-being by the manager and deputy manager. The staff I have seen from a distance all look very friendly and very caring, and I am very satisfied that she is being cared for. I have nothing but praise for Alpine Lodge and would recommend it to anyone.
Reply from Keeley Slack, Home Manager at Alpine LodgeIt is lovely to hear such lovely feedback Maureen. We strive in providing the best quality care and the best service that we can offer. Your very valued feedback will be passed onto the team. Thanks again.

Mum was accepted into Alpine Lodge yesterday afternoon, and I must say that the staff couldn't have made this any easier for us or mum. They were understanding, helpful and very respectful when settling mum in, and have done everything possible considering our current Covid19 climate.

Our parents are both residing at Alpine Lodge and my sisters and I could not be happier with their care. Mum and Dad are well looked after and with the current situation, we are reassured to know that they are safe and happy. Special thanks to a certain carer who has helped us keep in contact with Mum
and Dad via video calls, she has helped us to cope with a very worrying situation. She has been a star. So a very special thanks to you. We love and miss our parents very much. Take care, everyone, until we meet again, with all best wishes.
Three very grateful daughters.
Reply from Keeley Slack, Home Manager at Alpine LodgeThank you for taking the time to review us Diane. I will pass your thanks and appreciation on to my team. At this difficult time, the feedback we are receiving is helping to boost staff morale. It is lovely to know that my team are fully appreciated for what they do. Their actions speak volumes and they are all absolutely amazing. Thanks again Diane.

My mum is a new resident and the correspondence I have had with the manageress has been amazing. Friendly, nothing too much trouble, accommodating and available for questions.
We had to move very quickly to secure my mum's safety and everything was handled professionally and effortlessly especially
during this incredibly difficult time with Covid-19 around. My first impressions are fantastic.

My mother has been a resident of Alpine Lodge for eight and a half years now. Such has been the standard of care and compassion that I have never once considered moving her to another home. Her carers and support staff have been absolutely marvellous over this entire period and often go above and beyond
what might be expected of them, usually in very difficult circumstances.
This attitude is displayed by all staff, nurses, cleaning staff, catering staff, office staff and carers alike. I would recommend Alpine Lodge and have done so in the past, my mother-in-law was also a resident in the home and received the same high care as that of my mother. Under normal circumstances the staff work flat out under challenging circumstances so goodness knows how they are managing to do such a terrific job with the current restrictions. My sincerest praise and thanks go out to all staff, my gratitude difficult to put into words. Thank you so much.
Reply from Keeley Slack, Home Manager at Alpine LodgeThank you for your review Coral, your kind words mean so much to us. We are delighted how highly you recommend us and rate us. My mum has been in Alpine Lodge with dementia for 2 1/2 years and in that time she's always been treated with kindness, care and respect by all members of the amazing staff on every level, from the ladies who keep it clean and well kept to the carers, office staff and management. As myself and my family
live 250 miles away, I could not leave my mum in better hands. They are all wonderful especially in these difficult times, it must make their job even harder to keep the residents safe, but they do it with a smile. Thank you all.

My grandma has been a resident at Alpine Lodge for about seven months now since she has been unable to stay in her own home. She's been made to feel welcome and settled in very quickly. The home is amazing, getting residents dressed, out of bed and together every day, which doesn't happen in all care
homes. All of the staff are friendly and genuinely nice, caring people. My grandma has put on some weight that she desperately needed and is happy and settled there. I'm very impressed with the standards at Alpine Lodge and am grateful to all of the staff for their hard work.
Reply from Keeley Slack, Home Manager at Alpine LodgeThank you for your very kind review Lauren. We are so happy that you are happy with your Grandmas care. My mum has been here for seven months and suffers from vascular dementia. The care she has received has been excellent. The staff are very attentive and are always available to care for her needs and are very experienced. The management is always approachable for any issues. Mum has a history of hospital
admissions for dehydration, from living in her own home and a previous care home but she's hasn't had any dehydration since staying in Alpine Lodge. I'm very happy that we chose Alpine Lodge and would recommend it to anyone looking for a care home for their loved one.

Mum has been at Alpine a year now and from the start every member of staff we have come into contact with has been kind caring and helpful.
Mum has always received a high level of care.
In the last 3 months there has been a change in home manager which has seen some changes being noticeable some small
things, catering options at teatime being tested and adjusted, some large such as more areas of resident interaction stimulation, these changes seem to be a development in progress with the main aim being the care, health, welfare and environment for all the residents.
Reply from Keeley Slack, Home Manager at Alpine LodgeThank you very much Bev B, for your lovely review. Your feedback and support towards the home is much appreciated. I am very glad that you are seeing the positive changes throughout the home and that the changes are of course for benefit of our resident's health and well being.

The staff here are brilliant, they have looked after my mum who suffers with dementia for the last year, and are always upbeat, friendly, and polite.
They show all residents the due care, respect, and courtesy that they deserve, especially in these challenging times, and keep spirits up.

A proper community facility, as most staff and patients are Stocksbridgers with family connections among staff and between staff and patients, which might explain why staff are both extremely friendly and committed, compared to other care homes (from our experience re respite), despite our mum being
non-complaint, feisty; aggressive at times.
The whole building - lounges, dining room, bedrooms and corridors - is spacious, light, well-equipped and invariably clean. And the food’s good. Decor is regularly renewed: new corridor carpets are being laid, and a lounge has been made into a mock-up cafe in a bye-gone small-town high street.
This is part of a new impetus - most importantly, eliminating the use of agency staff - by a new manageress, who is at least as personable as the care staff; very down-to-earth, no-nonsense. In five years making visits at least twice weekly, we’ve not had reason to complain, so don’t recognise the CQC review. It’s an excellent care home for late-stage dementia sufferers.
Reply from Keeley Slack, Home Manager at Alpine LodgeThank you for taking the time to review us. It is nice to hear that you are happy with the care that your mum receives. I will indeed pass on your positive comments to the rest of the team.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.594)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.594) out of 10 for Alpine Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.644 for Alpine Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (146 Excellents x 5) + (64 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 216 Ratings = 4.644
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alpine Lodge is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 67 registered maximum number of service users is 13.4, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
