Holmwood care home, located on the outskirts of Sheffield, in an attractive residential area of Norton Lees, provides personalised dementia care to older people.

Many residents at Holmwood enjoy the range of places to explore, including a pub, tea room, sensory room, café, hair salon, library service and nail bar, as well as the specially designed dining areas that provide the perfect space to share meals with fellow residents, or family and friends.

On those sunny summer days, the peaceful enclosed garden is the ideal spot for some alfresco dining and the catering team work hard to offer a varied and nutritious menu, ensuring each meal is an enjoyable experience.

Holmwood is a very pleasant nursing home. There is very rarely any unpleasant odours one associates with some homes. The staff are excellent, very patient, friendly and efficient. There is a happy atmosphere throughout. The rooms are nicely decorated, furnished, warm and clean and tidy. A credit to
all the staff that work there.

When I visit Mum I can hear the general business of the home as the routine of the day unfolds. I'm always struck by the kindness and calmness of the voices of the staff, whatever they are doing - be it talking to those walking about, helping others, cleaning and returning clean laundry or assisting
with more intimate tasks. It's always the same and it makes me feel confident that it is a habitual atmosphere.

My mom was already in a care home, kept in bed all day and night, catheter kept in from the hospital, she had no dignity and very little care. I was told she wouldn't walk again. Withing 2-3 hours of her moving into Holmwood, she was on her feet with help, within 4 days she was walking on her own with
a frame. She no longer has a catheter in. The manager and staff are first class, providing dignity and very high level of care to everyone. My mom has a social life there and is happy.

My Dad has been at Holmwood for just over two years with advanced Alzheimer's and COPD. We have been over the moon with every aspect of his care. We were impressed with the home at our first (unscheduled) visit, the young lady who showed us around was very welcoming and clearly enthusiastic about the
home and working there, and this set the tone for all of our experiences at Holmwood. The staff are exceptional in my view, having viewed many homes before choosing Holmwood. They seem to be recruited for their personality and attitude, and this comes across in all that they do and in the care that they give. They interact with the residents and make their lives enjoyable. The home is very welcoming to families - my Mum joined in with activities when visiting Dad. They had some really good times together at the home, and Mum said she never walked away after a visit wishing Dad wasn't there or regretting placing him there, which says everything. An exceptionally good home for a loved one.

My mum has been at Holmwood Care Home since 2013. The management and all the staff are very welcoming, polite, and nothing is too much trouble.
Mum receives excellent care from the staff with respect and affection. The home also has an excellent local GP.
The home is spotless and decorated to a high
standard. The meals are good, and there are plenty of activities for the residents.
I am so glad I found this place for mum, and I know that even when I cannot visit she is well cared for.

After a very stressful time prior to my mum coming to Holmwood it is extremely comforting to know and see how well cared for she is. All the staff are caring, welcoming and show patients dignity. The range of services and activities are excellent. Thank you for such a fantastic care home.

Mum spent 2 years and 8 months at the care home until her death in May 2016. She was very well looked after and formed some very good relationships with staff, which I think helped significantly during the later stages of her illness. I cannot fault the care she received and have no hesitation in recommending
Holmwood Care Centre.

Within minutes of my initial visit to Holmwood I knew this was where I wanted my sister to be. The welcome of the place with it's light wood grained flooring both warm and practical, the cleanliness and well thought out decor, the individual en suite bedrooms and comfortable communal areas, the beautifully
designed sensory room which excercised a calming effect the moment I entered. The staff are one and all the most friendly and caring people one could hope for with a therapy programme better than any I've witnessed before. My sister may no longer have the ability to express her emotions verbally but she responds to the stimulation of her surroundings.

Staff very friendly and kind to the residents and visitors. The home and residents are smart and clean. It is very homely. Only seen the lunches but they look good. The facilities are good and the residents are taken out on trips.

Dad was admitted to Holmwood in December 2015. Holmwood was recommended. When looking around it residents visitors spoke very highly of it. Dementia takes away from the individual their ability to often communicate and give feedback re the care they are receiving. Therefore that trust goes on you the
family to know you've given the one you love the best care they can have, when home is no longer an option. Day or night never heard raised voices. Always observed the staff taking time and patience with each person. We could see from my dad - his weight increase - how he looked - well presented - feedback from staff that he was getting excellent care. Kept the family informed of any issues. Spoke with us on anything we felt may be useful for staff to know to make him feel as comfortable as possible. Also in what turned out only to be a couple of months the excellent medical care from the GP service. All staff very approachable. No regrets - excellent choice thank you

My mum went into care in February 2014. Since then her health has taken a turn for the worst. We had to put mum in various care homes but we weren't happy with them. My mum then got a place at Holmewood, what a difference Holmwood has made to my mum, you cannot fault Holmwood. The management, and all
the staff, cannot do enough for my mum. Even if we don't visit we know mum is looked after and doesn't want for anything. Everyone makes you feel welcomed. Can't thank all at Holmwood enough for looking after mum. Holmwood isn't a care home it's 'home from home'. Thank you all for all you do for mum.

Dad arrived at Holmwood confused and frightened which could present as anger but very quickly he felt safe, understood and respected by the experienced and caring staff at Holmwood. Dad's kept busy with activities and trips. His opinion is asked for and valued. As a family we feel very supported and

Our Mother has been in Holmwood for a few months. She has settled into her lovely room in this well run establishment. The staff are excellent, Mum is well dressed and cared for, and has been provided with all the required aids to suit her needs at no cost to the family. The staff deal with any queries
quickly and respond to health care needs promptly. Mum could not be in a better place and our family has been able to relax knowing she is well cared for.

Holmwood is a wonderful care home. Over 26 years I visited mum everyday to ensure she had the best care possible. Since moving to Holmwood I have such confidence that I can visit less often. The home is always spotless, the residents are happy and the staff really care. Nothing is too much trouble.
There is always a kind word from the manager, cleaners, carers and housekeeping staff. Well done and thank you. I thoroughly recommend Holmwood and thank my lucky stars, mum lives here.

Mum is very well looked after at Holmwood. The staff are always positive and caring towards my mother. The atmosphere is calm and safe. There are always activities that she can access if she's up to it. The food is always very tasty and well presented. It is a great relief to our family to know that
she is in a good, happy place, where she is treated respectfully and with affection.

We were aware of the positive reports relating to Holmwood and impressed when we visited the premises. However, we were not hopeful of getting my mother into Holmwood given the waiting list at the time. We felt very fortunate when we received a call to say there was a place. The premises are decorated
to a high standard. I like the security and reception arrangements. I find the staff friendly and caring and most importantly, I am confident that my mother is very well cared for and happy. The home is very pro-active in terms of activities and engagement and I have seen this first hand.

My mother became a resident in February 2015 until her death 31st October 2015. Although she was quite difficult when first admitted she was cared for with kindness and compassion and I was told of her condition every step of the way by all the staff. As her condition deteriorated her needs changed
and became a smooth transition which helped me enormously. On the day of her death all the staff were very kind to all her family who came to visit.

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“I believe that kind care is doing what it takes to make a Resident smile every day.”


Having started her career as a care home cook, Vicki has gained nearly 20 years’ experience in providing care and support to older people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Vicki joined Holmwood as she closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


She also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at Holmwood.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Vicki remarked:
“I find it very satisfying when I see our care making a difference to our Residents’ wellbeing.”


Away from work, Vicki enjoys spending her spare time with her friends and her young family.
