Howgate House Care Home

The care shown were up and beyond, all very friendly and with care and dignity told us everything we needed to know and with compassion. All support from all staff made dads days comfortable and with kindness.

My brother went into Howgate on 30.4.16 for end of life care as he was terminally ill. He died on 17.6.16.

I cannot praise too highly the care and attention of all the Howgate House staff from the manager down. Not only did they ensure my brother was as comfortable as possible in difficult circumstances and the care was exemplary, but they were endlessly patient and helpful towards myself who had no previous experience of this situation, and always gave the impression of having time to talk things over.

I would not hesitate to recommend Howgate House for anyone requiring a nursing home.

Nb I cannot rate all the categories since some were not applicable to my brother.

My Dad had lost all ability to care for himself but the angels at Howgate House looked after him for three years. They are very well trained in dementia care. They understood that my Dad was a gentleman suffering from a devastating disease. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. The manager was always available if I wanted to talk and there was always at least one nurse on duty too. Howgate House is a lovely home. It is kept very clean with no nasty smells. The bedrooms and lounges are comfortable. Most importantly the staff are wonderful.

The family found Howgate a very well run care home. The staff are very helpful in every way, especially in the last few days of my mothers life. A very well managed care home and thanks to the manager and all the staff.

The whole team is managed superbly with staff contributing beyond what could be expected. The whole ethos is supportive, friendly and dignified. Carers who secure a place here have no need to worry - they're very very lucky!!!

I found the the home was well run and very clean. The meals were good and plenty of activities were offered to the residents.The staff and management were excellent, very friendly and approachable and any queries were answered promptly.

I am very pleased with the level of care that my mother receives. Also the nursing care and I am happy that she is here. I find the staff extremely helpful and open to any questions asked. The management are always available which I find a good thing.

Very friendly, bit like visiting friends.

Staff always pleasant easy to talk to. Care of my mum always appears good, she seems relaxed and happy. Staff very good at contacting me if mum unwell and nurses always chat and give an update when they know we are visiting. Just one issue, wheelchairs are frequently parked in my mums room as if being used as an equipment store. This has been raised so hopefully will not be an issue now. Very happy overall with mum being here, we looked at numerous others but happy we picked and got a place here.

My cousin has the best of care, from friendly staff in a homely atmosphere and for that we are very grateful.

My brother now considers this to be his home. He is very happy with the care he receives, the food, the staff and the general care provided. I find the staff very helpful, friendly and keen to provide whatever is needed for their residents. Although my brother has never complained I do wonder if the beds are comfortable, the mattresses seem rather thin.

The staff are always looking after everyone's needs, dignity, care and polite even if a patient/resident gives them abuse. The nurse and seniors are second to none. Everything however small you ask of them to look into is immediately noted and acted upon immediately. Food is very carried and there is something for everyone. Over all very happy so far as we have only been here a short time.

Very pleased with care offered to my father in law he is very settled and receives every assistance required.

My wife was admitted to Howgate House on 7/5/15 having lost the use of her legs following breaking her hip in a fall. She needs lifting by two people which i cannot do alone. When I can take her out in a wheelchair she is reasonably happy but is unable to accept that she can walk or stand. She will never be content unless I could take her home which is impossible. The staff of the home do a good job looking after her and me.
