My mother was here for 2 days prior to her death. The care was amazing. The staff worked hard to keep her comfortable and pain-free. This was not always possible due to previous care from the hospital. All staff were extremely kind, caring and very compassionate.

Thank you for everything you did for our mum and our family.

The staff are friendly and very helpful. The room is small but with an en-suite. The food is good and there is a wide variety of food.

All staff were kind and caring. Not only to my husband but to me. My husband was happy and content, stating that he did not want to be moved.

My brother received end of life care at Howgate House. All the staff were friendly, caring but professional too. We were to come and go at any time, and family and friends did so. I thank them all.

Mum has been at Howgate for around a year now and is settled and we are happy that the staff genuinely seem to care for the residents, some maybe more than others. She is mostly happy and we are pleased with her general care. There are lots of events and visits to keep mum stimulated, she loves singing, and family and friends are welcome to visit at any time.

There are, however, periods when there are simply not enough staff to adequately supervise residents and having mentioned this to the manager before, I feel that this now needs reviewing, again.

We moved my brother on the 19th December 2017 and we have seen him settle down so well and it has changed his personality back to someone we now know. The staff are all so friendly, patient and compassionate and it reflects in him. It is a pleasure to visit him and we cannot thank you enough.

When one of your parents become ill and need 24-hour care it is extremely upsetting, Howgate was recommended to us by a number of people. The home invites you to take a look around without any appointments. The rooms are light and airy all with own bathrooms or toilets but most importantly the staff are friendly, compassionate and caring. Staff took time and listened to my concerns. My mum is content and well looked after I would not hesitate to recommend this care home.

The staff are great, couldn't get better. The food is good and the staff will do their best to make sure you get an alternative if you don't like what is on the menu, rooms are good and clean. The carers are fab they treat residents with dignity, facilities are good, activities lets it down as there is nothing for the male residents. Yes, I would recommend.

My mum had to go into a care home in February 2017. To visit seemed an awful thing to have to do but since she has been in Howgate, she has really settled. She loves all the staff and is cared for as well as I was doing at home. The meals are good and the cleanliness is excellent. She is treated with dignity and respect, her being extremely deaf is difficult but the staff are very aware of this and make sure she has heard everything.

My father-in-law was admitted from hospital in January 2017 to Howgate owing to having a stroke and having lost the use of his legs and speech - he needs help from 2 staff. He will never be content at 92, owing to having his own house and pottering up and down, but he's happy and understands this is the place for him and the care he needs. He's happy with the staff and family visit him every day at different times.

Don’t judge a book by its cover .... the lastest CQC report to this home has neglected to see the important aspects of Care.

My grandad was in Howgate for a short duration at which time me and my family visited daily at different times.

The Care and support he received were excellent, compassionate and respectful.

In his last few days, the deputy Manager and nurse was so supportive to us all, especially my grandad and ensure he was not in pain or discomfort. We can’t thank the deputy manager and the staff at Howgate enough for their Care.

During the times he was well he was entertained by the busy activities during the day, such as quizzes , sensory stimulation and a visiting donkey . He loved it !

Thank you Howgate and all the staff you are truly inspirational passionate and caring people. X

I have nothing but praise for all the staff in this home. The building is clean, bright and welcoming. The staff are all well presented, friendly and above all, caring. I feel my family member is treated more like a family member than a resident and nothing seems to be too much trouble.

Overall Experience

As a frequent visitor to this home (usually weekends) it became apparent that this was not the correct facility for Mum's needs. The staff frequently seemed to ignore many of the residents, and appeared to be more interested in their own social lives - often sitting all together in the lounge chatting. Meals were basic, and the dining room floor was often slippy, frequently dirty, crockery left a lot to be desired (cups stained, and stuck to saucers). When the staff and unit leaders were confronted with any issues they were very defensive. We, as a family, were extremely disappointed with this home, and regret ever placing Mum there.

Staff, at Howgate House Care Home, treat residents with care and respect. The home was always clean. It was nice to see the same staff there continually rather than a lot of different agency staff.

My brother was cared for and loved by all. The staff from the time he went in until his last day some 7 months. We were able to leave after our visits (some 3 or 4) times a week with the confidence he was being cared for very well.
