Mum has Alzheimer’s and due to a bout of delirium, she was in hospital and then in Norwood House for another month. Even though the actual rooms are a bit outdated and slightly down at heel, I gave it a 5* rating as the aesthetics were not import to us or mum. The care was good and cheerful, the communication,
mainly from the office and the manager was excellent,. The food was very good, they managed to get a couple of kilos onto mum whilst she was there which was needed. They facilitated visits efficiently, no mean feat in Covid times. We were lucky, mum recovered to her pre-delirium state and she was able to come home with the support of family and carers. The handover to the community was excellent, the social worker said it was ‘the best she’d ever had. So very satisfied.

The staff are so patient and calm with the residents - I do not know how they do it. During the pandemic and lockdowns they organised WhatsApp calls each week - seeing each other helped us both. They have tried to involve my aunt in craft activities and tried to keep her stimulated.

I feel mum is listened to by the staff and all her needs are catered for. She has been kept well during her stay here. If we have any concerns we can phone or email and get a quick response. I think the procedures put in place during the pandemic have been very good and have kept residents, visitors
and staff safe.

I have been very pleased with the care my aunt has received at the home. The staff are welcoming and always ready to answer any questions I may have regarding her care. I am impressed with the activities that take place e.g. crafts visits, singing. These all add to her well-being. Staff are friendly
and polite and I enjoy my visits to the home.

My dad has settled in well and I cannot fault the care he has received. He knows all the staff and they understand his needs and try to encourage him to be active and socialise. I feel happy that I know he is well looked after. He still doesn’t fully understand why he is here but he is settled.

Norwood House is excellent and has done a wonderful job over Covid-19, I cannot fault the staff and management in any way. My mum had a peaceful and comfortable death after being at Norwood for seven years. We were able to spend as much time with her as we needed.

I arrived after illness put me in a wheelchair after the hospital had done all they could. I used to work outdoor before this event so did not know what to expect. I was greeted and got into my room where there was a tv and adjusting bed, I can still have the dignity to transfer on my own already. Management
and nursing staff sorted out medication and ask/assessed what I would need to make the best of what I have. I am asked if there is anything I need often that is good, I am not good at asking for things. Nursing staff are on the ball and have seen things I have not noticed. Having no feeling from the waist down and set up treatment as needed. The rest of the staff are cheerful and do their tasks which are not always pleasant with professionalism and care. Food is excellently well cooked and you get the amount to keep you satisfied with tea, coffee or juice supplied in between meals. A lady sort's out activities on-site I make use of the WIFI for entertainment. Everything is cleaned well rooms to linen.

To all the staff at Norwood House, I would like to thank you all for the kindness and care you have given to my husband, during his two stays in the home and especially in his final hours. I will be eternally grateful to you all. Not many people get to see the work that goes on behind the closed doors
of the home. I have seen how you come to work smiling and how you are truly professional in all you do. It is a lovely place. It was very hard for me to not be able to visit, but I am so grateful that you kept him safe. Keep smiling and keep up the good work.

My mother-in-law has a pleasant, comfortable room with all her own things - photographs etc. She knits, does word searches and is happy to join in the activities the home provides, particularly Christian worship and sing-a-longs. She is not so sociable as she used to be but staff seem to be happy to
encourage her to chat.

On entering the home it was inviting and welcoming, all staff appeared happy and all smiling. There was a sing-along on and everyone appeared to be having a good time, all staff including management was joining in which just added to the happy feel of the home. Drinks and food were served and lots of
choice and time spent with residents to ensure they got what they wanted. The home had an open door policy and Residents were enjoying the sunshine in the beautiful gardens and patio, staff assisted residents that needed help so all could enjoy the outdoors. Well done Team Norwood.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.023)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.023) out of 10 for Norwood House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.717 for Norwood House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (43 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.717
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.306 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Norwood House Nursing Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.2 = 0.806
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
