Rated "Outstanding" by CQC for Caring (January 2023), Well Springs Nursing Home is set in beautiful mature gardens in Heaton, Bradford. This carefully extended home blends the old with the new to offer superb living accommodation within a truly caring environment.

They have 62 beds with all rooms having en-suite facilities. Five of the rooms are large Victorian rooms and are used for double occupancy when requested.

They have been here as a care home for over 25 years. Their intake of residents relies predominantly on word of mouth, referrals from the hospital and from other homes.

All of the team care deeply about the residents and this is evidenced by the feedback which they receive from residents and their families.

Time after time professionals watch residents' well-being and health improve as a result of their move, and they believe that this is testament to honest care and years of experience.

The Well Springs team provide first-class care, support and friendship to residents and their families. It is so reassuring to me to know that my mum lives happily at Well Springs and is safe and so well looked after. Thank you all.

What can I say, my husband was 65 when he was diagnosed with PSP which stands for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (it takes away anything the body does automatically).
There is no cure for this, it's about palliative care. His legs were the first to go, then his speech became quiet and slow. Once he
was no longer able to walk we started to look at nursing homes. As we lived in Clayton there was a place he went to but could not settle so I began to look for somewhere. Someone recommended Well Springs. I rang them and after 2 weeks my husband moved into his new place. He settled in very well. It really was like home from home, the staff are outstanding, nothing is too much trouble, the food is delicious and often they would ask if I wanted some too.
My husband passed away on the 20th May 2023. Staff came to the funeral which was really nice. The donations I got an arbour seat and plaque for the gardens at Well Springs. If I ever need a home I would check myself into Well Springs. 5-star accommodation.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Managing Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeIt truly was our privilege to look after your husband. I was moved to hear the recordings you had put together of when he used to sing at home. It was lovely to see his face light up when we all listened to these together. Thank you for trusting us to care for him. The bench is beautiful and a lovely spot for all of us to sit and remember him. Thank you for this lovely review. We know we will see you again soon at future Well Springs events!

The staff at Well Springs are fantastic, we found them to be caring, compassionate and sensitive to the needs of our parents. From the preliminary discussions through to the infirmary discharge and finally to assisting with the bereavement procedures the team were on hand to guide us with every aspect
of the sometimes complicated processes.
During their stay, our parents were treated with the utmost care and respect and attention to detail was paramount with the most minor requests being attended to as a matter of urgency. Our family cannot complement Well Springs enough, they surpassed our expectations and made the lives of our parents as comfortable as possible. We do not hesitate to recommend Well Springs.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Managing Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for this lovely review. We had the pleasure of knowing your parents and caring for them and we are thankful to you for giving us the opportunity. From teenagers to their final moments together, they were clearly, deeply in love. Thanks for all your kind words and acknowledgement of the efforts our team make every day. I will ensure your review is shared with every one of our 90 staff.

My Mum went into Well Springs Nursing Home in February 2019 until January 2023 when unfortunately Mum passed away peacefully. From the day Mum arrived, the care, compassion and privacy and dignity shown were exceptional.
The end-of-life care given to Mum over the two weeks prior to Mum passing away
was amazing. The nursing staff certainly knew how to give the care needed to maintain her hygiene needs, privacy and dignity, always communicating with mum when undertaking any tasks.
They would just pop into her room for a chat and check on her. Never leaving her on her own for too long. Reassuring her step by step.
As a family, we were never forgotten too. Nothing was too much trouble. The reassurance, and the endless cups of tea.
As her daughter, I cannot praise highly the excellent standard of end-of-life care shown by the whole team. We will never be able to thank you enough. You all delivered it perfectly. Thank you from all the family.
Well done, we are all very proud of you all.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Managing Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you so much for your review. We loved caring for your mum! Over the 4 years, we really got to see her personality and the team miss the daily video calls with family from around the country. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the care your mum and your family experienced. It truly was our privilege to look after such a lovely woman.

I can not recommend this nursing home enough, the management and staff have gone above and beyond to support my grandparents and us. They both came to Well Springs Nursing Home together and were treated so well, the staff are so caring they couldn’t do enough for them or us. Unfortunately, we lost my
grandma in January but the way the staff looked after her in her last few days, with such kindness and care, couldn’t have asked for more from them. The support they gave my grandad and us at the time and after was so lovely we were all so touched by the kindness and support we have been shown. My grandad is still there and he’s so well cared for the way the staff are with him it’s just so lovely to see, he just smiles at them and says how wonderful everyone is.
It has such a lovely warm friendly feel to the place and when we step inside it’s like it’s home because everyone is so friendly and couldn't do more for you. The manager and his team really are fantastic we couldn’t have picked a better home for them.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Managing Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for this review. Whilst my response to the last review is echoed here as it relates to the same lovely resident, I can't overstate how much we loved caring for your grandma. We will continue to do what we do best and try our hardest to make sure your grandad remains happy and well-looked after. Thanks again.

Cannot speak highly enough about this truly lovely nursing home. Stunning property with amazing staff and management. Management were wonderful to accommodate Mum and her partner making sure they could stayed together.
Unfortunately Mum was only with them 6 months before she passed recently.
The
staff looked after her with all the care and dignity she deserved.
I cannot thank them enough.

I can not recommend this nursing home enough. From our first look around as a family, we knew this was the home for Nanna and Grandad. The friendly and homely feel is just outstanding.
The grounds in the summer are the most beautiful gardens and sitting outside in the summer, either in the gardens
or on the rooftop garden made my Nanna smile all the time throughout the hot weather we had in the summer of 2022. I think the ice cream van visit helped with this too.
The nursing care that each person gives is second to none and every person that works here gets to know you as a family member and that makes each visit special. The compassion that is shown to each resident and the visitor is amazing.
The home is outstandingly clean and prestige.
Through the final week of Nanna's life, I could not praise the nursing care given enough, it was outstanding. The management has been so empathetic through caring for Grandad and helping him grieve Nanna's death. Thank you all, we all appreciate it.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Managing Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for this really lovely review. Whilst we regularly look after couples, I don't recall looking after a couple so besotted with each other. Their love was infectious and we have always enjoyed caring for the both of them. Your grandad will continue to be a big part of our family and he knows how loved he is. Thanks again for such kind words. As always, we will share these with each and every staff member.

My wife had a very complex medical condition which was extremely difficult to control at home. So, in 2021 she became a resident of Well Springs. She settled in very quickly and although it was during Covid it became clear to me that the staff were invested in her health and well-being and in keeping
her and the other residents safe.
Once restrictions began to ease I saw first-hand just how attentive the whole team were. Her medical needs were well met and her emotional well-being was clear to see. She was happy and that was enough for me.
Every visit, without fail, was a joy, even if she was having a bad day. All the staff, irrespective of position were so welcoming. It was like being a part of a big family and I felt cared about and for by all.
If I ever need to go into a nursing home I would want to live in this one without a shadow of a doubt. Thank you to all the staff for making her so happy and for feeling that Well Springs was her home. She loved you all, as do I.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Managing Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for this lovely review. She is sorely missed too! Thank you once again for your kind words. These will be shared with all our staff who loved caring for your beautiful wife.

From the first look around, we were impressed with the cleanliness and obvious care taken of the residents, and this continued throughout Mum's stay. Mum was a resident for three months prior to her passing away, and the care she received was excellent. Well Springs is a lovely nursing home in pleasant
surroundings, run by a great team of management and staff. Many thanks to you all from all the family.

We cannot recommend Well Springs Nursing Home highly enough. The care Dad receives is second to none and gives such peace of mind with us living a distance away.
The staff are always helpful and friendly. Communication is excellent. Everyone from the office to the nursing staff provides regular updates.
The Director also provides regular online meetings with families which are much appreciated. All are happy to answer any queries we have. They accommodate us well by providing video calls which allow us to keep in touch on a regular basis.
Well Springs is an independent family-run nursing home and this certainly comes across as a happy family.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Managing Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely review. Having been able to look after both your mum and dad has been a privilege for us. Whilst it is just your dad that we now care for, we always ensure he has the wonderful picture of your mum by his side each day. He is such a positive, kind gentleman and we are so lucky to have him call Well Springs his home. We will continue to do our best to ensure he continues to feel safe, happy and most importantly, loved. As always, we will share this with all our staff who make this possible. Thanks again.

I have no complaints about the care that my wife is receiving. I would describe it as exemplary. The staff are very caring and the management foster that attitude. It certainly deserves to be in the top 20 care homes in Yorkshire and the Humber and the outstanding rating for caring.

My mother-in-law has been at Well Springs for about three years and was obviously there during the Covid restrictions. During this time, I have always found the home and the staff extremely professional and caring. Communication is great and my mother-in-law always seems very well cared for, clean and
well-fed! The recent refurbishment and extension have given Well Springs a fresh, modern facelift and created a very welcoming environment.

I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of care at Well Springs Nursing Home. Mum was admitted after a hospital stay and was given a poor prognosis but due to the excellent care provided at Well Springs, she has rallied and is doing really well. All the staff are friendly and helpful, nothing
is too much trouble. I was particularly impressed with the security aspects at the home - security gate, rigorous signing-in protocols, accompanied visiting and sensory mats to alert staff when poorly residents get out of bed unaccompanied. The home really is a credit to the owners and management and I say this as someone who has worked in the caring profession myself for 16 years. Totally deserving of its good and outstanding CQC ratings.

Our very good friend moved into Well Springs Nursing Home in December 2021 following a fall at home. She had always been reluctant to go into a care home and had managed to live independently to 94 years of age but sadly her mobility no longer allows this. Our friend has been a bit of a loner, who enjoys
her own company and she was concerned that the busy care home life was not for her. She need not have been worried, as the staff at Well Springs are brilliant. They always go the extra mile to ensure that our friend is happy and has everything that she needs. She has brought some of her own furniture from home and has personalised her room which has become a true home-from-home. She doesn’t venture out of her room much but that is her choice. Instead, staff spend time with her in her room, take her for walks around the garden and have even taken her out of the home for fish and chips on their day off! We cannot thank Well Springs enough for giving us peace of mind.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Managing Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeYour kind words are much appreciated. We are so glad your friend has settled in so well and her room has been personalised beautifully. My sister, who has recently passed away, was a resident of Well Springs since 2012. We cannot praise or rate this nursing home highly enough. A quote from my sister's eulogy read “During her years at Well Springs she positively flourished, the staff understood her nature completely resulting in her
care being provided with not just understanding but love, patience and sincerity too.” This home is unique, if a staff vacancy arises they don’t just employ anybody they make sure they get the right person who fits in with the ethos of the home. Well Springs is a special place staffed by special people under kind, caring leadership.
I am happy to say that my sister spent some of the best years of her life at Well Springs, to my sister and to us she was surrounded by friends and extended family. I cannot thank these people enough.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words. The eulogy captured everything perfectly. Your sister is dearly missed by all of us, but mainly her two best friends who she had lived with for such a long time. Having the privilege to care for your sister and see her flourish over the years is something we will never forget. We know she felt loved and safe around staff who have known her throughout her time with us. I honestly miss walking down the corridor asking her how her game of ludo is going and who's winning. She is missed but loved and will be forever in our hearts. Thanks again for the lovely review.

Well Springs is the epitome of what a nursing home should be. The standard of care is, without doubt, of the highest quality. Mum was a resident for over 5 years, after suffering a life-changing stroke. She needed full-time care and our family were understandingly devastated. Well Springs helped us
every step of the way in a sensitive/efficient manner.
What stood out the most, was their unstinting care for our dear mum. They literally became part of our family, Mum truly felt loved, cannot thank them enough. Everyone showed great professionalism at all times, alongside empathy and a deeply caring attitude... and always with a smile. Preserving Mum's dignity at all times. The place was always spotlessly clean with ample parking.
Huge praise to the team for dealing with the Covid situation. The communication was clear and frequent, handled with great professionalism. Their help and guidance when Mum passed away were second to none, from the bottom of our hearts...thank you again.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for your review. We really enjoyed caring for your mum. Every time I speak to families about bringing a room to life and getting pictures on the wall etc, I think of your mum and your amazing big family. I know your mum was at the heart of the family and we knew how much she meant to you all. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to show her the love and compassion she deserved at a time in her life when she was the one in need. We will miss her so dearly. All the staff still miss their "mama" and speaking the little bits of Italian they learnt over the 5 years!

The management and staff of Well Springs are exemplary. They all go the extra mile to create a wonderful, happy community and the care they give is excellent. Our loved one, who suffers from Alzheimer’s and has, literally, no short-term memory, has thrived as part of the Well Springs family. She has
changed from the frightened, confused and anxious 92-year old that entered the Home, to a happy, smiling, confident and well-settled lady. She looks lovely and has her hair done regularly at the in-house salon. She has new friends with whom she plays dominoes and is encouraged by the activities staff to make all sorts of cards, flowers etc. Her individual needs are recognised and met with constant kindness, respect and good humour. We cannot praise or thank the amazing management and staff enough. Further, the communication with us, as relatives, during these difficult times has been excellent. Well Springs is highly recommended – it is above first class!
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for leaving this lovely review. Your mother-in-law is a great example of how people can truly thrive in the right care home. Often people don't see the social benefits to care homes however we are glad that your mother-in-law has been able to feel settled and part of a community. She seems happier than ever and whilst it took a little bit of time to settle, it fills me with joy when I see her playing her daily games of dominoes with friends. I am so pleased that the experience for you as a family as well has been so positive. It really is a tough decision when looking for a care home and we are glad you know you've made the right choice. I truly believe that Well Springs nursing home is where all the kindest, most compassionate people in Bradford work. I have never met a group of people as amazing and genuine in one place, they are truly angels. Our mother had a life limiting illness and spent the last five weeks of her life at Wells
Springs nursing home. As a family from a traditional Indian background, where the expectation is elderly parents are cared for within the family home, it was and will probably be the hardest decision, to place Mum in a nursing home. Sadly within the culture, there remains the stigma regarding elderly parents placed in a nursing home. Well Springs smashed that out of the window for us in tremendous style. They went above and beyond to meet the cultural needs and not us having to fit in around the nursing home. Nursing and medical care is of the highest standard. We will always be indebted to Well Springs for the excellent care they provided, including us and supporting us every step of the way.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for such a glowing review. We cannot thank you enough for allowing us to help break down those barriers and look after your mother in the only way we know how. We hope your experience is one others can take comfort in. We have a lot of people who work in the health sector, like yourself come to us for care of their family members and often this is through word of mouth. Thank you for trusting us to truly care for your mum at the end of her life and thank you again for all your kind words, biscuits and genuine heartfelt thanks. Your mum was a beautiful lady.

Review from Christine S (Sister of Resident) published on 31 March 2021 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My sister moved into Well Springs in the new year after not having a good experience in the previous home she was in and it is with great relief she is now in Well Springs. I now have the confidence she is getting the care she should be. In a short time, I have seen improvements already in how my sister
speaks, as she barely spoke a word before and looked deeply depressed, she now smiles, laughs a lot and talks, she also had lost a lot of weight and has been gradually been putting weight on since being at Well Springs. She had her nails painted recently, little touches like this are nice for someone to still feel nice even though they are unwell. She does little arts and crafts, making cards to send to me also with little cats on (as she loves cats). The home is well run, very organised, safe, modern and clean and the staff are very caring. Would highly recommend it. I am just so glad my sister got a place here.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeWe are so pleased your sister was finally able to make her move to us. Nobody should have to worry about their loved ones in a care home and it's so sad this was your experience of another home. We really love looking after your sister and she is thriving with us. As she is a lot younger than our average resident, we've enjoyed looking at new ways of delivering care through therapeutic and engaging activities for someone of a younger age. She seems to really like her room and the staff, that are here to help. Thank you for your kind words and the heartfelt card you sent in. I know this move has eased a big load on your shoulders as well as giving your sister the care she truly deserves. We will keep doing our best and I will pass on your lovely comments to each staff member.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.975) out of 10 for Well Springs Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.975 for Well Springs Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (231 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 237 Ratings = 4.975
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Well Springs Nursing Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Managing Director Joined: 2015

Hello! I am the Co-Owner and Managing Director here at Well Springs. We are a stand-alone family-run care home and it has been in our family’s ownership since 2006.

I joined the business in 2015 to work alongside my father, not before performing many roles in the home in my first year. This shaped my understanding of what it takes to work in care and many staff I worked with then are still here today. During my time in the business, I have been able to learn what it takes to offer truly Outstanding care and I will always strive to reach the high standards we set ourselves.

In my role, I meet all prospective families to show them the home and introduce them to the fabulous staff we have working here. Our staff are by far our biggest asset, and we work tirelessly to support them so that they can do the job to the best of their abilities. We have lots of “salt of the earth” people who have spent decades working here and embody our values every day.

I have been the Registered Manager at Well Springs since May 2018 however; I have been with the business since 2004 in other administrative roles. Before joining the business, I had an accounting background which has helped in my role, and I have built an extensive knowledge of the care sector in my time working at the home.

I have built an extensive knowledge of the care sector in my time working at the home.

I have implemented many changes in legislation and care requirements over the years and take pride in trying to achieve the best outcomes for our residents. We have a fantastic team, without which it would be impossible to achieve the high level of care that we all take pride in.

Our reviews are a testament to the dedication and hard work that the whole team puts in. We strive to achieve outstanding results and a high standard of care.

My role involves leading the team, quality control and overseeing all aspects of the daily running of the home. It is a varied and very busy role, but I am dedicated and passionate about working in the sector.

Job Title: Clinical Manager Joined: 2004

Hi, I’m Joe and I have been at Well Springs for nearly two decades as a member of the nursing team.

As Clinical Lead my role is to support the Registered Manager and the nursing team to achieve the best outcomes for the residents who live in our home.

I am a big believer that a nurse is not what you do but who you are. I am a nurse and love caring for those who are in need. My desire to deliver great care is a big reason I have enjoyed being part of the Well Springs family for so long, alongside many other staff who have worked here just as long as I have.
