Rated "Outstanding" by CQC for Caring (January 2023), Well Springs Nursing Home is set in beautiful mature gardens in Heaton, Bradford. This carefully extended home blends the old with the new to offer superb living accommodation within a truly caring environment.

They have 62 beds with all rooms having en-suite facilities. Five of the rooms are large Victorian rooms and are used for double occupancy when requested.

They have been here as a care home for over 25 years. Their intake of residents relies predominantly on word of mouth, referrals from the hospital and from other homes.

All of the team care deeply about the residents and this is evidenced by the feedback which they receive from residents and their families.

Well Springs Nursing Home looked after our 96-year-old aunty with care and dignity. Every member of staff at every level was dedicated to caring and looking after her. She had a lovely room and the day facilities are outstanding. The day room is arranged in small groups with dedicated staff who really
engage. The level of nursing care is outstanding and I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone. We are so glad we found Well Springs for our aunty.

We, as relatives at this difficult time, were so well looked after by all staff.
Nothing was too much trouble.

Reply from Ben Redhead, Company Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeIt was our sincere pleasure to look after your aunty. Whilst not with us long, we were privileged to look after her at a time where she needed the warmth and loving environment that Well Springs is able to provide. We will pass on your lovely compliments to each and every staff member. They truly deserve the recognition and so I cannot thank you enough for your kind words, both on here and in person.

An excellent home. Clean and well maintained. Staff are very caring, experienced and work well together. Managers are clear about the standards they expect. Residents are treated with affection and respect. The home has a warm and welcoming approach with a friendly atmosphere. Staff also support relatives
and families and give reassurance about the resident's care. I have no hesitation in recommending this home to others.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Company Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for such wonderful words. Your sister puts a smile on our faces every day and our team truly love caring for her. She is such a character and we love helping her with whatever she wants and needs. It's fantastic to hear that you have personally felt the impact of the work we do to look after the wider family too. I will pass on your wonderful feedback to each and every staff member as they're the ones who deserve such praise. Thanks again for taking the time to write such a glowing review.

Although Well Springs may seem a little faded-grandeur, the fabric of the building and facilities are soon compensated by the warm, caring atmosphere that surrounds you, from the great staff on duty.
It is a shame that the meals are bought in but they are tasty and plentiful. Although at times a little
cold (only occasionally) as the people needing feeding are seated last.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Company Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for your second review and we are so glad to hear you still feel extremely likely to recommend Well Springs to others. It’s lovely that you feel the warmth and caring atmosphere that exists within our home. We were over the moon to also have this recognised by CQC on their recent report, rating us "Outstanding" in Caring and we will constantly strive to have this is as standard. We will definitely speak with you in person about the meal service as we do not want anyone experiencing a less than perfect eating experience at every opportunity. Your feedback is always so welcome as it helps us nurture what is great and improve upon the areas that require focus. Thank you once again.

In mine and my families experience the care my mother received at Well Springs was excellent. All the staff from senior nurses to cleaners went above and beyond the service we expected. All the care staff were very helpful and nothing was to much trouble for them at any time day or night. All of the
staff we met were always friendly and welcoming. The staff nurses went above and beyond the call of duty.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Company Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeYour kind words are so lovely so thank you so much. Very fond memories of your mum have been shared between all staff since her passing and we truly loved looking after her. We always share feedback with all staff to show them that their hard work does not go unnoticed. Once again, thank you for such lovely comments.

I have found the staff to be professional, polite and extremely considerate on every visit. The standard of care provided is of a very high standard, consistently my mother-in-law is happy, very well cared for, clean, well fed and despite being bed bound has no pressure sore or redness. She is spoken
to in a kindly and appreciative manner. She enjoys a laugh and a "sing" with the staff despite being unable to communicate in sentences. I am very happy and can relax knowing she is safe.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Company Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeWe are so grateful for the positive feedback. The staff love the jobs they do and it is so nice to hear that this is clearly evident to you, the family of such a wonderful lady that we look after. We hope to continue excelling in the care we offer. Thank you once again.

Our Dad, responsible, a speaker in his career and church, supportive, funny, caring. He enjoyed life and everyone in it. Sadly struck down by a stroke, loss of speech and then the loss of his wife, our Mum.
How could he settle into a nursing home, losing his wife, his home and with Aphasia.
Well
Springs is a home filled with love, care, energy, happy, comforting and clean. Dad had a cheeky relationship with staff, although he could be stubborn, challenging at times. Clearly, he was loved and respected.
His friends/residents were also looked after because Dad wouldn't have settled if they weren't, always caring for other people. He loved the food, always first in the dining room. He was well groomed, had fabulous beard and haircuts. Staff shared jokes with his grandchildren. The little tots loved going.
God bless each of you hardworking adorable staff. We appreciate your love and support in his last hours. Thank you, you were his angels. We will miss you, you became our family.
Reply from Ben Redhead, General manager at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words. It was a real pleasure to look after your Dad, he had a wicked sense of humour and he is sadly missed by all staff and other residents. Our staff are indeed hard working and it's lovely for them to know they are appreciated. Thank you.

We needed end of life care for dad and were extremely anxious about doing the very best possible for him; we would have preferred to look after him at home but this was impossible. Starting with the initial visit, nothing was too much trouble for Matron and her dedicated staff. They cared for dad in
a professional manner, treating him with gentleness, sensitivity and respect at all times, and taking into account family preferences with regard to care decisions. The entire family was constantly made welcome, looked after physically/emotionally and most importantly, treated as 'people' as opposed to clients - from providing dad with a birthday cake, feeding us at all times of the day/night, to attending dad's funeral, a final gesture which touched us very much. We were moved by the compassion of the staff and the way in which dad was treated with genuine care. We really could not have looked after my dad better at home. Thank you Well Springs; We are truly grateful for everything.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Company Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeWe are so glad to hear that your experience and especially that of your fathers was over and above what you expected. Mum was a resident for all too short a time as she was seriously ill on admission but the staff treated her like an old friend. The care and kindness shown to her by the staff was wonderful and everyone who visited mum remarked about the pleasantness and helpfulness of the staff. Right from the moment
when my sister and I went to look round, we were impressed by the attitude of the staff member who showed us around and explained the set up there. In the last few days of her life, the family were overwhelmed with the kindness and understanding shown to us. Mum was not fit to be involved in activities so it is hard for me to comment but there did always seem to be things happening when I walked past the lounge and the board showed a whole range of events.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Company Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you Pam for such lovely words.

We enjoyed looking after your mum and ensuring she was always tucked up with her little brown dog. Our staff are so wonderful and work very hard to ensure everyone living at Well Springs is as happy and as comfortable as possible so I'm glad you and your family felt that.

Once again, thank you for giving us the opportunity to look after your mum.

My husband becomes quite aggressive and verbally abusive from time to time. Staff deal with this with great care and thought for him, other residents and also myself when visiting him.
He has very bad mood swings towards me and they take care of me as well as my husband with a great deal of thought
and understanding.

Having looked around various care homes, Well Springs appeared best because of it's homely and friendly atmosphere.
Many homes were better furnished and decorated but lacked that "caring feeling".

My friend has been resident here since April 2012, and I would like to say that through all this time I have been very impressed with all the staff at this home. Their attitude, genuine care and compassion, and support have been extraordinary. Not just to my friend, but also to his now late wife. The
support they gave her was unbelievable. Like an extended family!

Probably one of the most difficult decisions in life arises when a loved one needs to move into residential care. The best thing I've noticed about Well Springs Nursing Home is its staff. They give care to the residents with infinite patience and dignity thus ensuring a happy, homely environment. Everyone
is very welcoming - it is lovely to see residents and visitors greeted by name and with a smile! The decor is well maintained with lovely bedrooms which residents are encouraged to personalise and many a visit has been enjoyed sitting in the beautiful garden. Having made regular visits to see my mother (a resident since 2010) and seen the loving care provided, there is no doubt that Well Springs Nursing Home was the right choice for her. Thank you to those who look after her so well.

My wife had a stroke doing mental damage in 10/1995, following she was in hospitals and care homes to December 1997 when she has a broken hip. On leaving hospital I got a place for her at Well Springs in January 1998. For 9 months my wife shouted and screamed when spoken to, she had a nice modern en-suite
single room, warm with pleasant garden views. The staff were very good, patient, caring as they had to toilet, dress, wash and feed my wife initially.
Gradually over 18 years in Well Springs my wife has made tremendous improvements, not shouting, knitting, and word search, she can answer questions (not if a decision is needed), is good humoured. The difference is remarked from when she went to Well Springs. Today the staff although changes have occurred, are a credit to Well Springs as are the management, they are nice people doing their best for all residents. Now my wife and I enjoy short trips out by car, bit of shopping etc.

Having been an architect all his working life my husband at the age of 45 developed cerebellar ataxia. I managed to care for him for over 20 years but in Feb 2012 a care home was needed Well Springs Nursing Home was chosen and not having dealt with CA before they did wonderful care. His dignity always
maintained, help with feeding when required, personal hygiene excellent and spotlessly clean room. Well Springs Nursing Home was also my home as well as his as I could come and go when I wanted and take meals with him at anytime. Nothing has ever been too much trouble from any staff. Sadly my husband passed away after a long battle with CA on the 16th Oct 2015. I have no hesitation in recommending Well Springs Nursing Home to anyone needing care.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.975)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.975) out of 10 for Well Springs Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.975 for Well Springs Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (231 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 237 Ratings = 4.975
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Well Springs Nursing Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello! I am the Co-Owner and Managing Director here at Well Springs. We are a stand-alone family-run care home and it has been in our family’s ownership since 2006.

I joined the business in 2015 to work alongside my father, not before performing many roles in the home in my first year. This shaped my understanding of what it takes to work in care and many staff I worked with then are still here today. During my time in the business, I have been able to learn what it takes to offer truly Outstanding care and I will always strive to reach the high standards we set ourselves.

In my role, I meet all prospective families to show them the home and introduce them to the fabulous staff we have working here. Our staff are by far our biggest asset, and we work tirelessly to support them so that they can do the job to the best of their abilities. We have lots of “salt of the earth” people who have spent decades working here and embody our values every day.
