Rated "Outstanding" by CQC for Caring (January 2023), Well Springs Nursing Home is set in beautiful mature gardens in Heaton, Bradford. This carefully extended home blends the old with the new to offer superb living accommodation within a truly caring environment.

They have 62 beds with all rooms having en-suite facilities. Five of the rooms are large Victorian rooms and are used for double occupancy when requested.

They have been here as a care home for over 25 years. Their intake of residents relies predominantly on word of mouth, referrals from the hospital and from other homes.

All of the team care deeply about the residents and this is evidenced by the feedback which they receive from residents and their families.

Time after time professionals watch residents' well-being and health improve as a result of their move, and they believe that this is testament to honest care and years of experience.

Mum was recently placed within this care home and all I can say is - it is amazing. The staff, the manager and everyone behind the scenes, has made the transition for Mum absolutely seamless. The lines of communication have been impeccable and nothing is too much trouble. Mum has settled very well and
most of all, is happy and relaxed.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely feedback. Whilst your mum has only been with us for two weeks, I'm really happy to hear you are having such a positive experience. Your mum is settling in well and has a great bunch of staff to keep her well looked after and as happy as possible. Thank you for taking the time to share your short but impactful journey, so far.

Our beautiful mum was diagnosed with an untreatable illness last April 2020 and we faced the unthinkable task of looking for end of life care for her. Following a recommendation from a friend, we made arrangements for Mum to be moved to Well Springs from hospital. What can I say, Mum received a wonderful
welcome, as did my brother and myself, from everyone there. It was unfortunate that Mum only had a few weeks being looked after by the team who were compassionate, understanding, caring, gentle and could not do enough to ensure Mum was comfortable. Sadly, when it was time to say goodbye to Mum, the team could not have been any more accommodating; allowing my brother and I to spend time with her. They dealt with a heartbreaking situation with genuine kindness, allowing Mum the dignity she deserved. We will never forget what they did for us. I cannot recommend Well Springs enough.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you very much for such a lovely review. It is one of the hardest decisions a family can ever face to choose the right care at the end of someone's life. Let's face it, nobody sets out to be in a care home but when it's needed, it's important people can choose somewhere loving and peaceful with outstanding staff. I'm glad you felt we did all we could and it was a pleasure to care for your beautiful Mum at a time when she needed it most. I will ensure your lovely review is passed on to all of our staff, although we know how much you thought of all of them, from your compliments at the time. As with a lot of people who come here, you heard about us through word of mouth and your review may just help another family looking for the best care possible for their loved one. Thank you once again.

Mum was transferred to the Well Springs Nursing Home on January 30th 2020. She had been in hospital since 19th November 2019, extremely ill and needed end of life care according to the medical staff there. From arrival at Well Springs, all the staff were well-presented, caring and friendly towards Mum
and the family. They were obviously aware of Mum's general, poor condition and limited capabilities on arrival, but dealt with these professionally, by caring for her as an individual, with dignity and respect for her total well-being and her personal desires. To date, Mum has continued to improve, in all respects, due to their total care and commitment. With regards to family, they also care for us by listening to us and taking the time to keep us informed and up to date with any changes regularly. All this, of course, starts with management of the team. The management team at Well Springs are excellent, show devotion and continued commitment to the work they all do, with particular focus on the individual residents in their care. They continue with this, despite the intervention with Covid-19 and seem to be going beyond all expectations to keep the residents cared for in all respects, plus keeping relatives fully informed with regular updates etc. For me personally, the most important message I can put across is Mum, despite her health issues, is happy and settled there, enjoys her days and has a will to live again which is due to all the staff at Well Springs and to them working as a team.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for your review. It is hard to believe your mum came for end of life care when I see her now. She is so unbelievably sweet and we love caring for her. Every time I see her in the lounge she makes me smile. She looks at life in the most wonderful way and we are thankful you gave us the ability to care for her in the way she deserves. Once again, thank you for the lovely review. We will keep doing what we do best.

My mum was a resident of Well Springs from April 2019 until her death in Dec 2020. Throughout her stay, she was treated with the utmost kindness and respect from all the staff. They managed my mum's deteriorating health with compassion, appropriate treatment and above all a sense of humour, which I
know my mum greatly appreciated and were very quick to pick up on any problems that arose. I was lucky enough to be with my mum at the end of her life and the staff were just lovely and so kind to me at such a difficult time. The home is clean, (doesn't smell!) and always seemed to have a cheerful buzz when I visited. Sadly visiting my mum had to be severely restricted, due to Covid, during the last few months of her life, however, I knew she was safe, content and being well cared for. Thank you to the management for all the updates and guidance throughout the last difficult year. You have a fabulous team of people at Well Springs and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend your services.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for giving us the opportunity to care for your amazing mum. Whenever I met her in the corridor, her smile would beam from ear to ear and we really do miss her. As a well dressed, lover of her chocolates she seemed really quite happy and safe with us. With all the compliments you've paid the staff before, during your mum's stay, the team know you and your family were so happy with the care we gave, but as always, I will pass on your words. We only wish you and many others could have visited more in 2020. Hopefully, for many others, things will get back to normal soon but I am thankful you got to be with her at the end. We really will miss your wonderful mum. Thanks again for your kind words.

Our mum has been a resident at Well Springs for several years now and we have always had nothing but enormous praise for the management and staff. They go that extra mile in not only the fantastic care but making sure she is happy and included in the daily activities. They range from making cards to
planting seeds and vegetables. When they advertise that activities take place, they really do! There is a very low turn over of staff, this tells it's own story, staff seems valued by the leadership team. Whenever we have visited, there is a lovely feel to the place, the support for each other and camaraderie is highly evident. This has been put to the test over the past 10 months with Covid 19. Communication with relatives and friends has been nothing short of outstanding, we get regular and clear updates, plus lovely photos. Being able to speak to mum has continued to be made very easy for us, be it by phone or Skype, this has been invaluable as we live a distance from Bradford.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeWow! Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words. Living away from your mum must be very hard but we are so glad you know how loved she is with all of us here at Well Springs. The activities staff along with all our team are incredibly valued and we cannot thank them enough, but especially in 2020. I am glad you feel the communication has been outstanding and also thrilled that virtual visits continue with your mum and your family in these testing times. Thanks again for a lovely review. Each one gets shared with our staff on screens around the home and it truly makes their day to know what each and every family think.

March was my aunt's 93rd birthday. My sister and myself were visiting (just before lockdown), as we were talking to our aunt a group of staff came singing happy birthday. The look on our aunt's face was wonderful, just a tiny moment but a perfect example of the wonderful care given by the staff at Well
Springs. We are so grateful for all they do, our aunt is happy, safe and so well looked after.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeI really hope our singing was up to scratch. Trust me, I've heard some of the staff. We love making sure anyone living with us feels part of the family. It might sound a bit cliched I know but we are here for your aunt and everyone else to look after them in the only way we know-how. I'm really glad you have such confidence in what we do. Your aunt is a wonderful lady and we will continue caring for her to the best of our abilities. Thanks again.

FULL OF PRAISE for the Well Springs team. Thank you for the compassion, empathy and high quality care for Dad and me and Mum too. Dad was a rushed entry but the team pulled out all the stops to make us welcome, feel valued and took great care to ensure they could meet Dad's needs. I had checked CQC
and read reviews on here, we were stressed and a bit anxious but honestly the team just took everything in their stride. From the get-go we were struck by how genuine, capable and proud the staff are, the facilities are fantastic, bright and tastefully decorated with a lovely outlook over the gardens. The restaurant and common rooms are lovely and when we toured the facility the director knew everyone's names and chatted with them. The quality of nursing staff and carers was evident, they were well trained, long serving, confident, happy. I knew this place really cared about people, yes obviously residents but staff too. I work in health care and highly recommend. F.A.B.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words. Your dad happened to be one of the first people into our brand new extension and we truly loved caring for him. Whilst he was not with us long, we could see so clearly how much you and your family loved him. Choosing a care home is one of the most difficult decisions and we thank you for doing your homework and picking Well Springs. I will be making sure every staff member gets to see this wonderful bit of feedback to re-emphasise how much they are valued and admired for the amazing work they do day in day out. Thank you once again.

Having my husband transferred to Well Springs on 22 Nov 2019 we were both treated with kindness, understanding and great caring during the time he was in the home. All the staff from top to bottom were equally very cheerful, helpful and caring to a high standard. The staff even arranged celebrations
on his birthday Dec 31st 80 with a difference! We have told many friends it is a place to be high on the list if ever needed. Well Done to All.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThanks for your kind feedback. We loved caring for your husband and are over the moon that he made such a recovery that he could move home with you. What a fantastic outcome baring in mind he was only with us for nine months. Your feedback throughout his stay has been lovely to hear and it is kind of you to take the time to write this review. We will miss the daily matching of slippers and trousers for each day and the colour he liked. Thank you again and long may you and your husband be happy at home.

Mum and Dad receive excellent care from the wonderful staff who are so friendly, welcoming and supportive, treating everyone with dignity, respect and love. This is truly an extended family for our loved ones and ourselves. We have great confidence that they are always well looked after and their individual
needs and wishes are taken into account. We have been particularly impressed with the way the home has responded to the current Covid-19 pandemic, moving swiftly to take all the necessary steps to ensure the safety of everyone: residents and staff. They have been very open and honest with us and kept us fully informed at all times, being especially caring during a recent family crisis. The staff at the home, in all different roles, go well beyond what is expected in the level and quality of support they provide. Having our parents at Well Springs gives us such confidence, knowing they are treated as individuals and that their changing care needs are always so well met.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeYour kind words are so much appreciated. Obviously we have looked after your parents for 18 months now and it has been amazing to see them happily living together when at one time, it seemed that may never happen. With your mum coming to us on daycare in the lead up to their permanent move, we have known you all for a long time now and love working with your parents to help them live their lives to the full. They are so in love and our staff cannot get enough of hearing about their decades together never wanting to be a part. We love what we do and caring for your parents is a privilege for us. I will pass on to all our staff your wonderful comments, as I already have with your many verbal compliments before this. Thank you again.

Well Springs has cared for my relative for a number of years. In all this time they have provided my relative with care, compassion and love. I cannot fault their dedication to caring for their vulnerable residents and their openness, honesty and integrity with visiting relatives. I would highly recommend
the home for anyone looking for care for an elderly dependent.

We are both so relaxed now knowing that dad is in the safe caring hands of all the staff at Well Springs Nursing Home.
The staff are very professional and they care so much for dad and all the other residents.
Before dad went into Well Springs he had such a bad experience at a couple of other care
homes and we were told he only has a short time to live.
He was losing weight and not eating or drinking.
However, with the help of all the staff at Well Springs he is now eating and drinking and has gained weight.
The home is warm and welcoming with lovely decorated rooms.
We feel that we can talk to the staff about dads needs and that dad is always listened to. He is always clean and well dressed.
There is only a thing we would change if we could and that is that we got him into Well Springs Nursing Home sooner.
You are all truly amazing individuals and the resident's son and I are so very grateful for the love and care that you have given and are still giving to dad.
Thank you all so much!

Before I start my review after 16 months of my mums stay, the word excellent does not even come close to how good the staff at Well Springs are. If there was a box that said amazing it would be ticked all the way.
The staff took care of my mum right to the very end but not just my mum but me and my
family while we were there for 13 days and nights by her bedside.
Nothing and I mean nothing was too much trouble. I have reviewed Well Springs when my mum moved in and gave it 5 stars but to be honest 10 stars doesn't do it justice.
If anyone is considering moving there loved one into here all I can say is it will be your best decision you will ever make.
Thank you for everything you did for me, my mum and my family.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words. We all miss your mum so much and truly loved caring for her. Due to Mum's failing health and being bed-bound, as a family we had to take the difficult decision to move her into a nursing home. From the 1st time I went to look around, I was made to feel welcome and that nothing would be too much trouble. Mum moved into Well Springs in June last year and was very
well cared for, every single member of staff who cared for her did so as if she was a member of their own family and I know that she felt like that because she gave all the staff nicknames!
Sadly my mum passed away in March this year so only spent a few months there but the care and compassion shown to Mum and the family during her last week was amazing and there was always a member of staff about for a chat or hug when we needed it.
Thank you all for looking after Mum and treating her with the love and care you did. I know that she wasn't the easiest and could be difficult when she wanted to be, so thank you once again.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeYour mum was a truly wonderful lady and we loved caring for her. Thank you for such kind comments. Reluctantly, last Christmas we came to the difficult decision that our Mum needed full-time nursing care. So pleased we found Well Springs.
She had a lovely bright room, well decorated and very clean, in which we were able to put some of her things to make it feel like home. All the staff were outstanding
and treat her with dignity, care and affection. The level of care was outstanding both to her and all the family, her great-grandchildren loved visiting her there and we were always made very welcome. She was only expected to be there for a few weeks as she was very frail but due to the care given at Well Springs, we feel they gave us extra precious months with her. She did enjoy sitting in the sun in the garden. She passed away in September and the care shown to us as a family that difficult night was second to none. Would certainly highly recommend Well Springs.
Reply from Ben Redhead, Company Director at Well Springs Nursing HomeWe are grateful for such lovely feedback and that your mum chose Well Springs as the place she wished to live at the point of needing nursing care. She was a quietly spoken, amazing woman. The best memories of ours are her sat in the front garden, soaking up the hours of sunshine last summer whilst enjoying an ice cream. Thanks for your kind words. We all loved caring for your mum.

Thank you to all the staff who looked after my aunt, She was only with you for a short time until passing away yesterday. The home is clean and welcoming. All the staff are friendly, caring and show compassion. A special thank you to one member of staff who was always willing to answer our questions
and listen to any concerns we had about our loved one. We were all looked after with drinks and food offered to us.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.975) out of 10 for Well Springs Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.975 for Well Springs Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (231 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 237 Ratings = 4.975
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Well Springs Nursing Home is based on 20 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6, which has been reached with 20 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Managing Director Joined: 2015

Hello! I am the Co-Owner and Managing Director here at Well Springs. We are a stand-alone family-run care home and it has been in our family’s ownership since 2006.

I joined the business in 2015 to work alongside my father, not before performing many roles in the home in my first year. This shaped my understanding of what it takes to work in care and many staff I worked with then are still here today. During my time in the business, I have been able to learn what it takes to offer truly Outstanding care and I will always strive to reach the high standards we set ourselves.

In my role, I meet all prospective families to show them the home and introduce them to the fabulous staff we have working here. Our staff are by far our biggest asset, and we work tirelessly to support them so that they can do the job to the best of their abilities. We have lots of “salt of the earth” people who have spent decades working here and embody our values every day.

I have been the Registered Manager at Well Springs since May 2018 however; I have been with the business since 2004 in other administrative roles. Before joining the business, I had an accounting background which has helped in my role, and I have built an extensive knowledge of the care sector in my time working at the home.

I have built an extensive knowledge of the care sector in my time working at the home.

I have implemented many changes in legislation and care requirements over the years and take pride in trying to achieve the best outcomes for our residents. We have a fantastic team, without which it would be impossible to achieve the high level of care that we all take pride in.

Our reviews are a testament to the dedication and hard work that the whole team puts in. We strive to achieve outstanding results and a high standard of care.

My role involves leading the team, quality control and overseeing all aspects of the daily running of the home. It is a varied and very busy role, but I am dedicated and passionate about working in the sector.

Job Title: Clinical Manager Joined: 2004

Hi, I’m Joe and I have been at Well Springs for nearly two decades as a member of the nursing team.

As Clinical Lead my role is to support the Registered Manager and the nursing team to achieve the best outcomes for the residents who live in our home.

I am a big believer that a nurse is not what you do but who you are. I am a nurse and love caring for those who are in need. My desire to deliver great care is a big reason I have enjoyed being part of the Well Springs family for so long, alongside many other staff who have worked here just as long as I have.
