Ghyll Royd is located in the semi-rural area of Guiseley, near Ilkley and Otley. It is a purpose-built home which has been designed to the highest specifications. Great care has been taken to provide a homely, warm and welcoming atmosphere. The highly trained team at Ghyll Royd pride themselves on putting residents’ needs first and creating the best possible environment in which to enable them to care for residents’ needs. Residents and their families are supported throughout the move into the care home, which the team understand can be a big change.

Ghyll Royd has four communities, Willow, Rowan, Beech and Blossom. Each area is designed to create a safe and positive environment for residents.

All bedrooms have en-suite facilities and are stylishly decorated with a high-quality finish; residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms to make it feel homely. The communal areas are light and spacious, designed with comfort and social interaction in mind.

Our dad lived in the Rowan community at Ghyll Royd for 4.5 months and we have nothing but good things to say about the caring and compassionate way he was looked after by the whole team. He settled in quickly and was very content living there. During Dad's last days, the support of the staff given to
both him and our family really helped us all.

My wife has been in the nursing unit Willow for 14 months she has got MND the nursing staff are very good and supportive with her total care and medication. She is treated with kindness and respect by all the nursing staff carers and management everyone has a smile and is supportive of us as a family.

Dad needed residential dementia nursing care urgently when discharged from hospital. We contacted Ghyll Royd and it was so impressive that they were able to assess him and admit him the same day for a respite period.
It was really good to see the staff in Beech so patient and caring with all the
residents and they were brilliant. The management worked well and did all they could to make arrangements as easy as possible all around.
The nursing care worked really well in getting his medication sorted and provided an excellent 'handover' as he left Ghyll Royd.
Unfortunately, Dad is unable to stay on at Ghyll Royd, though it was our preferred option.
I'd definitely recommend Ghyll Royd.

Such a caring team of staff looking after my mother-in-law in the last few months of her life.
When her time to leave us came, the calm support was very welcome.

My mother-in-law was well looked after with the staff taking time to get to know her. Her nursing needs were complex however the staff confidently dealt with these needs taking time to explain to us what they were doing and why. No question was a "silly question."
All staff took time with her and listened
to her whether making her bed or administering medication. The stimulus from activities ensured she thrived and had fun.
The staff listened to her and treated her wishes with respect and accommodated what she requested.

During my mum's stay at Ghyll Royd she has received excellent support and care in terms of personal needs and health.
Staff have been open and honest about Mum's needs and have supported not just Mum but the whole family. The nursing care has been first-rate and they have carefully monitored Mum's
diabetic conditions.

My mother is in the residential dementia unit - Blossom.
I have found all the staff have been welcoming, kind and considerate towards me and to my mother who has settled in very quickly and is happy.
The home has a culture of professionalism and competence led from the top. The standards of care
are high and I can see the daily care and meals she receives on my phone through the online portal. Attention is given to the detail of her personal care plan to get it right and includes dispensing her supplements!
A choice of communal spaces provides variety and the activities are provided most days. The vegetarian menu reflects specific requests I have made with a variety of home-cooked meals. The beds have high-quality memory foam type mattresses. Relatives can visit at any time without notice.
All in all Ghyll Royd has provided everything I was hoping to find for my mother and for the first time I have been able to relax and to not worry. Thank you everyone. Highly recommended.

No words of ours can fully express our gratitude for the superb care our mum, received from you and your wonderful staff. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone was always willing to go above and beyond, to make her comfortable and safe, and help her to reach so close to her 104th birthday!

especially grateful, and very moved by, the help and loving care you gave her and her family during her final days. It really helped us all to cope in the final stages of her life.

My mum is now at a point where she needs total care for everything. I am sure she is aware of her surroundings and her situation but can no longer vocalise or do anything herself. I live 200 miles away and visit as often as I can and every time I leave knowing that she is getting the best of care and
is treated with dignity and respect. I can not fault the staff looking after her and they treat her as they would their own. She is in the best place she could be.

We really wish we had got our Dad into Ghyll Royd sooner than we did, the thought of having to put him in a home was daunting enough but from the first day, our minds were at rest. The staff were absolutely brilliant, so kind and gentle with Dad and attentive to his every need. They also made us feel
so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Although Dad's stay was short we as a family saw a huge difference in his whole attitude. We will forever be grateful to all the staff at Ghyll Royd for making Dad's stay a pleasant and comfortable one.

My mum has been a resident at Ghyll Royd for over a month now. The whole team on Blossom have been welcoming and keen to learn her likes, dislikes and care needs. She settled in really quickly. The team clearly work well together and the residents feel like part of a family. I would recommend Ghyll
Royd as the carers really do care about the residents. My mum isn’t in the best of health, so if there is any cause for concern, the team act straight away and keep me fully informed. A special mention to three members of staff, in particular, who have shown a genuine concern for Mum’s welfare. They offer comfort when she is anxious and struggling. They manage to get my mum smiling with their positive approach and she is very settled and calm in their company. I highly recommend this home.

There is a wonderful atmosphere in the home. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and there was loads of fun activities that had been arranged for the residents. Relatives are always made to feel welcome and included.

We could not have chosen a better care home than Ghyll Royd for my father-in-law. He was welcomed into Ghyll Royd like a member of the family, as we were too. The care he received on Beech, the dementia unit was second to none. He was treated with such love and kindness by every member of the team.
We could not have got through the final days of his life without the truly amazing team on Beech. We will never be able to thank them enough for all the love and care they gave both him and us as a family. He died peacefully on 10th November.

My mum was a resident until sadly passing away recently. I visited her almost every day and was always greeted with courtesy, updates on her health and with friendly banter from the nurses. My mum was always treated with kindness and compassion if she was feeling unwell, and made friends of the staff
and nurses. She was loved by all, who looked after her and she loved them too. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to walk due to an arthritic knee but tried to remain upbeat. She didn't have much of an appetite but the nurses tried to encourage her to eat and most days the chef catered to her preference. All in all, although Mum did yearn to go home, Ghyll Royd was the perfect nursing home and it has been a godsend she was cared for so professionally and gave us peace of mind.

My father's stay at Ghyll Royd was very short, but the staff were magnificent. They were helpful, considerate, and very knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend Ghyll Royd to anyone looking for a care home for a loved one.

Ghyll Road cared for my mam for a year. She needed nursing care, suffered from dementia and needed assistance with all aspects of her life.
Ghyll Road provided this care brilliantly up on Rowan Ward, and thanks to all the staff for that. The care was not easy - she could be difficult at times.
Her
care at the terminal stage was exemplary. The staff assisted us at every turn. She passed peacefully under expert care.

Hi, my name is Nichola Gawthrop. I am the Registered Manager here at Ghyll Royd. I qualified as a General Nurse (RGN) in March 2011.


Prior to qualifying as a Nurse at The University of Bradford, I worked for 10 years as a Senior Health Care Assistant in a health and social care environment (here at Ghyll Royd Care Home), caring for elderly people and people living with dementia. This role enabled me to gain valuable experience ensuring people I looked after received high standards of care, which are vital to skills in nursing.


While working at Bradford Royal Infirmary, I gained experience in different wards and departments: Elderly Orthopaedic, Elderly Medicine, Oncology, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), Ophthalmic, Vascular and Accident & Emergency.


I consistently demonstrate and deliver high standards of clinical care. I operate using a person-centred approach and care deeply about the quality of care people receive. I love working with people and aim to achieve the best possible outcome for the people I care for.

My name is Dawn Goodings, and I joined the Ghyll Royd team in November 2021.


Before starting here, I worked as a funeral facilitator for Heavenly Services, and before that, I was a Home Administrator for Anchor for over 16 years.


I have always been interested in meeting people and helping them to the best of my ability. I try to have a happy and helpful nature at all times with everyone I meet through work, listening to them and assisting them in whatever they need.


I hope to support my colleagues and the wider Ghyll Royd team in maintaining a CQC inspection rating of ‘Good’ whilst striving towards ‘Outstanding’.

Hello, my name is Ian and I am one of the Unit Managers here at Ghyll Royd Nursing Home.


I have worked here since 2015 and enjoy providing high-quality nursing care for our residents. I have a particular interest in palliative care, and introducing the Gold Standard Framework best-practice approaches to the Home.


The unit I am responsible for is called ‘Yew’ and is on the ground floor of the building. I like to encourage team cooperation and good communication, and to create an atmosphere that feels welcoming for everybody.

I hold a level 3 NVQ in professional cooking and a level 2 qualification in cake decoration. Before Ghyll Royd, I worked at Thomas Danby College, Farthing's Restaurant, and Whitaker's in Otley.


I am passionate about cooking good food, prepared fresh on the premises, and I strive to maintain the highest standards at all times. I want all our residents to have a positive dining experience, and I like to consult with my colleagues, residents, and visitors about how to continually improve and adapt our menus.

My name is Amy Cafferky, and I’m an Activities Coordinator at Ghyll Royd Care Home.


I started at Ghyll Royd as a Housekeeper, soon coming to realise that I loved spending time with the residents. When I was asked to join the Activities Team, I was over the moon!


I’m an outgoing and friendly person and love to spend time in people’s company. I aim to brighten someone’s day every time I come to work. I could not imagine myself doing anything else. I love my job and the people I spend my days with!

My role is to help residents access activities in groups or to take the activity to them individually.


I love to make a difference in someone's day, make them laugh, smile, enjoy themselves and try something new.


It's important to be there to listen to residents and their families too - I like to think I'm very approachable.


My love of dogs and dog rescue can combine with work when I bring in dogs for pet therapy.
