Ghyll Royd is located in the semi-rural area of Guiseley, near Ilkley and Otley. It is a purpose-built home which has been designed to the highest specifications. Great care has been taken to provide a homely, warm and welcoming atmosphere. The highly trained team at Ghyll Royd pride themselves on putting residents’ needs first and creating the best possible environment in which to enable them to care for residents’ needs. Residents and their families are supported throughout the move into the care home, which the team understand can be a big change.

Ghyll Royd has four communities, Willow, Rowan, Beech and Blossom. Each area is designed to create a safe and positive environment for residents.

All bedrooms have en-suite facilities and are stylishly decorated with a high-quality finish; residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms to make it feel homely. The communal areas are light and spacious, designed with comfort and social interaction in mind.

Pleasant staff, always cheerful and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Mother feels as though she is being looked after, she considers the carers to be friends. We now consider staff friends, we have visited for some time now.

We couldn't have chosen a better care home for my mother. Care is second to none with excellent staff and management. Activities are plentiful (so important for the mind). Everyone is always able and willing to help and to go the extra yard whenever needed. We are so grateful to them.

I feel confident that should any issues or concerns arise, I am able to approach the team. They will listen and together plan a way forward if at all possible. Excellent

My partner has been a resident at Ghyll Royd for 18 months. I have always been impressed by the level of care and the friendly helpfulness of the staff. I am content that my partner is as happy and comfortable as possible. The building has recently been refurbished and has comfortable lounges, pleasant
individual rooms, a conservatory and outdoor seating areas, much used in the recent good weather. I would particularly praise the following - the reception team have always been extremely welcoming and helpful in a cheerful and efficient manner. The activities team are untiringly energetic and caring, providing a wide range of activities every day of the week, plus room visits. The high standards owe much to the leadership style of the manager.

The care and compassion shown towards my mum and our family in the time she was at Ghyll Royd was outstanding. The last few weeks of her life were made easier for us by the kindness of all the staff. Everyone who I encountered there always had a smile and time for a chat. Mum's care was exceptional
and I would highly recommend every aspect of this home. A lot of the staff became like family and I will miss them all. The family can't thank everyone enough.

My dad was at Ghyll Royd Nursing Home during the final few weeks of his life and we could not have been happier with the care and attention he received here.
Everyone was exceptional and I shall be forever grateful for this wonderful nursing home and its amazing staff.
They are all wonderful and helped
us manage through a difficult part in life where getting better was sadly no longer an option but making the best of what was left as good as it possibly could be.

My auntie has now been a resident of Ghyll Royd Nursing Home for eight months. Her care has been very good. We visit regularly and have always found the staff friendly and welcoming. There are regular outings and activities which are structured to be inclusive to as many residents as possible. The home
is furnished to a high standard and the communal spaces are light and airy. I am very happy that I chose Ghyll Royd Nursing Home as it is a well-established house.

Management could not have been more helpful and kind. My mother has had eight months of palliative care here and enjoyed the pink ladies and their wonderful activities. She had excellent carers, so kind and gentle. The room was clean and bright. The housekeeping and laundry staff are very caring. She
had made new friends and was loved by all she met. Nursing care is excellent and professional, there are not enough words to express how thankful I was for the home, staff and experience at the end of her life.

The care my husband received has been excellent. He was treated with kindness and respect throughout his ten-week stay. From management to housekeeping, I cannot fault the care. Simple things matter, and everyone, as they passed the door, smiled at him and said "hello", even though he couldn't reply
due to a stroke. On his final day, I was there all day, and everyone came to see him that worked on that floor and treated him with the utmost respect on his passing. Thank you.

Care and nursing staff very good and helpful.
Only negatives are room wasn't always kept as tidy as perhaps it could have been, bed left unmade. Food was ok, but being picky it might have been nicer to have had a bit more choice and some of it was a bit bland, though portion sizes were good.

I would definitely recommend Ghyll Royd Nursing Home. From my first enquiry visit, the manager was very helpful and supportive. Both the manager and her deputy took their time to explain everything clearly to me. Although my mum's time with them was short, we were made to feel very welcome and cared
for. All the care teams were friendly, efficient and kind. The manager stood out as an exceptional manager, using both her nursing background and empathy to personally help us through a difficult time. Thank you again.

My mother was in Ghyll Royd Nursing Home for palliative care and was only there for a week but throughout that time, all the staff were very kind and respectful in all their dealings with Mum. Very attentive to her every need, ensuring she was comfortable and not distressed. The rooms are very pleasant
and the communal areas are very good. I would like to thank the staff for their empathy and kindness to us all as a family when Mum passed.

My husband has been at Ghyll Royd Nursing Home for just over two years and from day one, he's been treated with dignity and compassion. The carers and nurses are kind and polite and are always friendly towards him. He is always clean and well cared for with each minor problem dealt with quickly and
efficiently. He is well-fed and encouraged to eat and drink often (this can be a problem for him). I am so pleased I chose Ghyll Royd to be his home.

My mother lived in Ghyll Royd Nursing Home for over ten and a half years, after she was discharged from the hospital at the age of 89, with high physical and mental care needs.
Carers and nursing staff provide professional, knowledgeable care enhanced by their friendly approach. Mum was also treated
respectfully and her dignity was maintained. Staff who have worked at the home for many years provide an important backbone of consistency.
The home works as a whole community. All the staff - housekeepers, laundry workers, receptionists etc. chat with residents and family as they go about their work.
Any health issues and proposed changes to the care plans are shared promptly by the unit nurse, who was always ready to discuss any of our concerns.
There is an excellent partnership with a local primary health centre, which enables timely access to consistent medical care.
In Mum's final days, the staff on the unit, day and night, were wonderfully kind and supportive to us as a family.

Although my mother was only with Ghyll Royd for a short time, we could not have had better care. From my first visit to look around to my mother joining the home to the care she received right to the end, we always felt welcome and that the team cared about us as people. Hi, my name is Nichola Gawthrop. I am the Registered Manager here at Ghyll Royd. I qualified as a General Nurse (RGN) in March 2011.


Prior to qualifying as a Nurse at The University of Bradford, I worked for 10 years as a Senior Health Care Assistant in a health and social care environment (here at Ghyll Royd Care Home), caring for elderly people and people living with dementia. This role enabled me to gain valuable experience ensuring people I looked after received high standards of care, which are vital to skills in nursing.


While working at Bradford Royal Infirmary, I gained experience in different wards and departments: Elderly Orthopaedic, Elderly Medicine, Oncology, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), Ophthalmic, Vascular and Accident & Emergency.

My name is Dawn Goodings, and I joined the Ghyll Royd team in November 2021.


Before starting here, I worked as a funeral facilitator for Heavenly Services, and before that, I was a Home Administrator for Anchor for over 16 years.


I have always been interested in meeting people and helping them to the best of my ability. I try to have a happy and helpful nature at all times with everyone I meet through work, listening to them and assisting them in whatever they need.


I hope to support my colleagues and the wider Ghyll Royd team in maintaining a CQC inspection rating of ‘Good’ whilst striving towards ‘Outstanding’.

Hello, my name is Ian and I am one of the Unit Managers here at Ghyll Royd Nursing Home.


I have worked here since 2015 and enjoy providing high-quality nursing care for our residents. I have a particular interest in palliative care, and introducing the Gold Standard Framework best-practice approaches to the Home.


The unit I am responsible for is called ‘Yew’ and is on the ground floor of the building. I like to encourage team cooperation and good communication, and to create an atmosphere that feels welcoming for everybody.

I am passionate about cooking good food, prepared fresh on the premises, and I strive to maintain the highest standards at all times. I want all our residents to have a positive dining experience, and I like to consult with my colleagues, residents, and visitors about how to continually improve and adapt our menus.

My name is Amy Cafferky, and I’m an Activities Coordinator at Ghyll Royd Care Home.


I started at Ghyll Royd as a Housekeeper, soon coming to realise that I loved spending time with the residents. When I was asked to join the Activities Team, I was over the moon!


I’m an outgoing and friendly person and love to spend time in people’s company. I aim to brighten someone’s day every time I come to work. I could not imagine myself doing anything else. I love my job and the people I spend my days with!
