Review from Arthur W (Husband of Resident) published on 31 August 2020 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Our impressions are of dedicated, calm, and professional staff efficiently caring for residents with mental illness and mobility problems. We were regularly informed by the nurses as to why different medications were being prescribed by the doctor. When my wife was refusing to eat, the staff never gave up and tried all sorts of ways and ideas to try and entice her to eat and drink. The staff’s patience, friendliness and kindness made my wife’s four months stay extra special by going above and beyond in the excellent care, understanding and support they provided. They were always caring and understanding towards our family too, being most professional, kind, and supportive especially on difficult days. When we telephoned, the person answering the call always talked knowingly about my wife and her condition at the time. In conclusion, a Big Thank You “Keep doing what you are doing as we know how vital your roles are in helping your residents and their families in the hardest times of life”.

I always knew I wanted to be a nurse. After receiving a diagnosis of diabetes at a young age and spending significant time in the hospital, I found myself deeply moved by the compassion of the nurses who looked after me. They inspired me to turn my own patient experience into a lifelong career dedicated to helping others, and I have never looked back.

My journey began with 14 years of dedicated service within the NHS, which provided me with a strong clinical foundation before I transitioned into the private sector to manage day surgery. For the last 15 years, I have committed myself entirely to social care, progressing through roles as a Unit Manager, Clinical Services Manager, and Home Manager. This varied background has given me a 360-degree view of what excellent care looks like, and I was thrilled to bring that experience to the team here at Ghyll Royd when I joined in February 2026.

What I enjoy most about my work is that no two days are ever the same. The fast-paced nature of a care home keeps me motivated, but it is the ability to make a tangible difference in the lives of our residents that truly drives me every day.

When I am not at home, I love to escape the busy nature of work by spending quality time with my children and my family. You will often find us out in the fresh air, enjoying long walks with the dog and making the most of our time together.
