From our initial enquiry as a family we could not be happier and grateful of Croft House.
We have been navigating the heartbreaking journey of mum's vascular dementia and Alzheimer's for some years. We knew mum's needs could now only be met in Dementia Nursing.
As a family we did our due diligence and visited countless Care / Nursing Homes in the Wakefield area.
Croft House just felt right as we walked in. The welcome was lovely and heartwarming. To see our dad smile for the first time in a long time was everything and we knew from our initial visit that Croft House was where we wished for mum to be cared for. Mum has been at Croft House for one month now. The level of care is Gold Standard. It is apparent that the staff are there as a vocation and not just a job. They really do care and with a smile too.

We visit mum everyday. Visiting is welcomed at anytime and never discouraged.

Thank you so much for your lovely review and choosing Croft House. It is a pleasure to be a part of Mum's journey.

The Mother's Day Afternoon Tea was fabulous. The thought and care that had gone into organising was very evident. The presentation was excellent. There was a very good selection of food. The scones were my standout favourite. But everything was delicious. An excellent idea and highlight of the week. This review is specifically for Mother's Day Morning Tea.

Reply from Measha Savage, Home Manager at Croft House Care Home

Thank you for sharing this, it's wonderful to hear how much the Mother's Day tea was enjoyed. The team put a lot of heart into making it feel special, so knowing the food, presentation and atmosphere all hit the mark really means a lot. We're especially glad the scones were a standout!!

I cannot praise Croft House Care Home management, carers & domestic staff enough for the continuing care of my husband for the last 16 months of his life. He passed peacefully on the 17th Feb with all the love, care and compassion from nurses & care staff on duty. I honestly believe they gave him an extra 6 months of really good quality of life.

Reply from Measha Savage, Home Manager at Croft House Care Home

Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt message. It means a great deal to hear that your loved one was cared for with such compassion and dignity, and that the team were able to bring comfort and quality to those final months. Your words will be deeply appreciated by everyone involved in their care.

My mother has been a resident on Blue Bell Ward since July 2024.
My mother has advanced dementia and has growing needs.
When my mother first moved in, the place appeared to suit my mother's needs.
It was quickly apparent the home was failing to meet basic needs for my mother and other residents too.
She was loosing weight and her general appearance was not good.
I also feel her emotional needs we also not met.
All our concerns were presented in a professional manner and escalated upwards as and when required.
Problems continued and management / nurses were inept and changed on numerous occasions.
Social services and CQC became involved and many concerns were raised.
From my perspective the blue bell ward upstairs was a forgotten area.
After numerous meeting and change of management and staff the home now appears to have turned a corner.
Things are running much better and there is a positive atmosphere
Please keep it up for everyone's sake.

Thankyou.

My mother is happy in the care home, she is well looked after even through there is a constant staff shortage.

Food; personal likes and dislikes are taken into consideration. Mum is mainly on puree meals and staff try to make the choices appealing.

Mum was in the home for two and a half years as she had vascular dementia. The staff were always good and treated my mum like their own. She died peacefully in her sleep and the care the team gave her was wonderful. All the staff are amazing from the top to catering and cleaning staff well done to you all. Thank you for all you did.

My lovely mum was cared for in the dementia unit for 6 months until she passed on 25th September 2023. While there her care was brilliant as she was also suffering from cancer. The staff were very caring, approachable and compassionate. The last three days of her life I stayed with my mum at the home, the staff were lovely towards me and mum and very supportive.

I would like to thank them for helping me and my family through a very sad time.

The place is clean, friendly, food is excellent. Only down - more staff needed, so they can spend individual time with the residents, talking with them. The staff available are all wonderful but busy doing their required jobs. Another member of staff would be fantastic to talk to the residents.

If you want your loved one to be loved cared for and treated with respect, Croft House isn’t the place for them. Three years ago the home was lovely the manager (a lady) was brilliant. Unfortunately, she left and Croft House just went downhill.

I’ve noticed previous negative reviews have been removed??

Reply from Kerri Smith, RM at Croft House Care Home

Thank you for your review and we were disappointed to hear you still have concerns despite a full investigation being made at the home and presented to you and the social worker which addressed all of the issues raised and had resolved the complaint made.

We have experienced a very upsetting few months recently in relation to my mum’s basic care needs not being met. There appears to be insufficient staffing on the dementia unit which is leaving residents at risk. The quality of food is very poor as is the decor, the unit feels like it has been forgotten. My mum is not treated with dignity or respect. Some of mum’s clothes have gone missing, I’m not quite sure what happens in the laundry as nothing ever looks clean or pressed with white items grey. My mum has always taken pride in her appearance so why do people in supposed caring roles think that it is ok to treat mum with little or no respect just because she has Alzheimer’s disease, my mum is still my mum and deserved to be treated with dignity.

I am in the process of searching for a new care home for mum as I do not feel she is safe or well cared for.

Hello and welcome to Croft House, my name is Measha, and I have been the Home Manager since May 2025.

Croft House is a lovely home with a super team of staff who really care about the people who live here. It has been a real joy working with people who have shown such enthusiasm to enhance the lives of those living with us and be able to provide the best care in the most dignified way. I believe it’s a team effort, and encourage all of the staff to share ideas to continually improve how we care for and support the people who live here, their loved ones and family.

Please feel free to pop in for a chat or have a look around the home if you are considering a care home for yourself or your loved one.

Hello, my name is Siobhan and I am the Receptionist at Croft House.

I came to Croft House as a carer back in 2017 and then moved into the domestic team in 2020 after showing I had a passion for the environment and attention to detail, I worked in the domestic team during the Covid pandemic.

In June 2021, a position of Lifestyle Coordinator came up at the home and realising how much I missed the interaction with the people who live with us and have been the Receptionist here since July 2025 and was delighted when I got the job.

Julie Collier
Julie CollierJob Title:ReceptionistJoined: 2021

Hello, my name is Julie and I’m the receptionist at Croft House, I’ve been working here since December 2021.

You will find me sitting at the main entrance to the home ready to greet you with a big smile and a warm welcome. I am usually the first person to answer any telephone calls coming into the home and, will do my very best to help you or point you in the right direction.

Part of my job role is to show people around the home, and this is something I really enjoy, so if you are looking for a care home for yourself or your loved one, I would be very happy to have a chat and show you around our lovely home.

We work as a good team together and are all very conscientious about our roles within the home.

I used to be a care assistant and loved my job, but unfortunately, I had to give it up due to a car accident, but it is lovely to be able to work within the care community again in a different role.

I have had a varied career path since I started work in 1975, from a Shoe Shop Assistant, Asda Wines & Spirits Supervisor, licensed Public House, and a catering assistant, as you can see, I’ve always enjoyed working with the public.

This is a lovely, rewarding job to be in and a happy home too.
