The genuinely kind and loving care my husband received at Castleford Lodge Nursing Home was absolutely second to none. As his condition deteriorated, he was always treated with immense dignity and compassion - as was I. There is a wonderful atmosphere - everyone cares. We were very fortunate my husband was able to die there.

My mum has recently moved here from a residential home. I was very worried about how the move would affect my mum who’s 94. All I can say is that the manager and all staff have been wonderful and very supportive of not only my mum but myself and my family. I am astounded at the change I have seen in my mum. She seems so much more settled. Her room is beautiful. Although we are new to this home, she seems to be thriving. What I can say from the short time my mum's been here, the care she is receiving is excellent. Thank you from a very grateful daughter.

On the whole, the care home was good. The management and carers were pleasant and polite. My only issue is that on one visit my husband was wearing the same dirty clothes he had been wearing four days earlier and he was incredibly smelly. I asked for him to be cleaned up atc. and this was done promptly.

My dad hasn't been in long, six weeks, and so far everything is fine. The staff work very hard, they deserve a medal. The home is lovely, staff are all good at their work. Sadly, very short staffed but overall I feel my dad is well looked after.

Thank you for taking the time to review our Castleford care home. We are working hard to recruit more care staff but it is a challenging time for care homes on this matter across the board.

My mother-in-law has just moved into the home and so far I can't complain, I have been kept updated on her progress by telephone and in person. Every member of staff so far has been friendly and helpful and my mum-in-law is settling well with a good range of activities to keep her occupied. Her room is well appointed and cosy and I hope she will be really happy here.

Castleford Lodge Nursing Home took our mum in when we were in a desperate situation where her previous residence refused to take her back after a spell in hospital, mid-Covid, as they said her needs were too great to cope with. Another care home agreed to take her then let us down the day before. Mum has very advanced Alzheimer's so she needed round-the-clock help.

Castleford welcomed her. We have had issues along the way. But essentially the staff are always kind and willing to help. The facilities are fairly basic in comparison to where she was before but we now realise the important thing is the staff, not fancy surroundings.

The care staff are very caring and supportive, also under pressure, the higher management team leaves a lot to be desired. All staff at the home work under pressure, one item that required or requires urgent attention is someone needs to improve the phone answering service. It is nearly impossible to get an answer.

My mum came here for 4 week's assessment. From day one her care needs were not met. She has to have a soft diet due to not being able to swallow due to a stroke. They brought her things like fish fingers and beans, sweetcorn, sandwiches, and soup that was like water and she was on thickened fluid. Had to lay there on lots of occasions wet and soiled because we were told they don't change anyone around mealtimes and they brought her food and expected her to eat while uncomfortable because she hadn't been changed. We were told our standard of care was too high and that was said by the manager and also asked if mum had always been needy which is disgusting. Mum was in pain and uncomfortable so if that makes her needy where's the duty of care and that was also said by the manager. I feel for anyone in there with no family. Luckily my mum has and we have all worked in the care sector and are appalled at the lack of support for my mum. Thankfully we have moved her and she is getting the care, dignity, and respect.

Reply from Cristina Rashita, Manager at Castleford Lodge Nursing Home

We have looked into this and it appears that standards on this occasion have not been met with the expected level of care associated with our homes. We offer our apologies for any distress caused, the lessons from this have been absorbed and changes made to ensure that this doesn't happen again.

My wife has been in Castleford Lodge Nursing Home for the past four months and as difficult as it has been for us to be separated, the staff have helped us both greatly. Everyone is friendly and helpful, maintaining contact with my wife via phone/WhatsApp when visiting was not allowed/severely restricted due to Covid.

Thank you all.

Our Dad did not spend much time in Castleford Lodge. But from what myself and the rest of the family had seen we cannot fault any little thing. From the staff, cleanliness, our Dad's dignity as he passed away only one week in this fan place. If only I got a chance to look around. The staff also thought about him on father's day with a card and a small gift.

My mum has been in Castleford Lodge for the last 9-months, and I have to say, I wouldn't want her anywhere else. The love, care and attention they give her are second to none. They treat all patients like family. Words can not describe how amazing, and grateful I am for them looking after my mum as she means the world to me and has all the care she needs. They deserve medals.

My wife has been in the home for a month now, so I can not comment on the second half of the scores. What I have seen with the wife is very satisfactory. She has been looked after better than what I can so, not for the lack of trying. At the moment, I miss not being able to see her for more than half an hour a week.

My wife has dementia and has been a resident since June 2019. She has only been here for 15 months and has only been in one care home previously and this is 100% better. Staff are great. Food great, well looked after. If she could speak for herself I am sure she would agree.

My mum just moved here. The staff were brilliant, explained everything in plain-talking English, what you see is what you get and it is. Run by normal people who know exactly what people want and need. Can't praise them enough.

I don't usually write reviews but due to the excellent experience and care my family received from all the staff at Castleford lodge I feel compelled to reiterate our gratitude. My grandfather came to Castleford Lodge approximately 4 weeks ago on palliative care from hospital and sadly passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning. I was instantly taken back and impressed with the level of compassion, dignity and support my Grandfather received, he himself appeared to be happy in his new surroundings and enjoyed the interactions with the nursing team. This compassion also extended to the members of my family who were at his bedside throughout this traumatic time, I personally found them to be helpful and forthcoming with a very "human touch" about them. Thank you again to the fantastic nursing staff at Castleford Lodge at a terrible time for us.

I feel the carers and the care they give is excellent and feel reassured when I leave. I feel confident the care is individual-based. I am disappointed the garden area hasn't been updated as we believed it would be when she became a resident 12 months ago. I am also sad to know that the bus isn't as available as it was - going out on the bus (I feel) stimulates and gives a feeling and enhances wellbeing.

My mother went to Castleford Lodge in June 2019 for palliative care. She passed away on the 15th June and during her time she was treated with dignity and compassion.

I am so pleased with the care she was provided with during the difficult time and we the family were also given a most courteous and compassionate care package during my mother's last days.

We, as a family, found Castleford Lodge to be a friendly and helpful environment. My mum is being well cared for and the staff find time to talk with her and meet her needs. When I have asked for advice or explanations, the staff have been forthcoming. We are generally very pleased with the level of care my mum is receiving.
