I have always found up until now that my husband seems to be well looked after, clean and in his own clothes.
He seems to be quite happy here and I always feel much better after visiting him.

Thank you.

I've not spent time inside Bessingby Hall to be able to comment on all the facilities, food, cleanliness etc, however, all the staff have been very helpful and pleasant in all my dealings with them. My aunt seems extremely happy and settled here.

This is my first time visiting grandma at Bessingby Hall after coming back from overseas. When we arrived grandma was at ease and relaxing downstairs. All the staff were very caring and polite. The hall organised a great open day with lots of entertainment. We visited Grandam's room which was lovely. It was homely, clean, tidy and had a nice view of the garden. Grandma seemed very happy. The staff were very friendly and attentive but also let us all catch up together without interruption. This is a great place for Grandma and we are hugely appreciative.

I come and see my mum once a week. I find the staff very helpful, always polite and chatty. My mum is always looked after, eating well and drinking with the help of the staff, who are also washing and cleaning her each day.

My dear aunt came to Bessingby Hall in February 2021, her stay ended when she sadly passed away on 10th March 2022. Throughout her stay, she received 1st class care. She was very complimentary about the staff's caring attitude towards her. My aunt never complained and the staff enjoyed looking after her. Her end of life care and subsequent passing was full of dignity with a personal touch. At the age of nearly 97, this was very fitting and deserving. Thank you to all the staff at Bessingby Hall.

So much I do not know as I have been unable to be with my uncle in his room as I did for a short period before covid hence so many satisfactory crosses. The staff do their best at a difficult time. Management well, I don't always get to know of changes before they happen. The care plan was drawn up at the start but I have never had a copy although requested. My uncle says he is established and food good and I know he is safe and warm but regret he sits in his room so much. He does have a telephone in his room with the managements help which is good and we can chat.

My husband was to go into the home for respite for 2 weeks but in that time I had a very bad fall and was in hospital for a year. My son and I were to go and look at other homes but that never happened so now my husband may have to stay there.

My Dad initially went to Bessingby Hall for respite but he settled in so quickly and his overall health improved so much that we decided that it was better for him to stay rather than go back home, and we weren't wrong! Dad sadly passed away at the beginning of May after a sharp decline in his dementia. Throughout his time at Bessingby Hall we were amazed at how the staff looked after and cared for their residents. As I live some distance from Bessingby I was able to arrange 3-way conversions and facetime calls during lockdown which was extremely reassuring and enabled me to get a glimpse of life in the home. Dad started having a number of health issues a couple of months ago and my brother and myself were kept informed at every step. In the last few weeks of Dads life the staff's care and thoughtfulness for both my Dad and the family was second to none. Making a very difficult and sad time a little easier to bear.

Reply from Rhianne Pattinson, Administrator at Oaktree Hall & Lodge

Thank you for your reply. It was an absolute pleasure to know dad. The Deputy Manager attended the funeral and felt it was a reflective celebration of his life. Very grateful to have been invited to represent all staff at Bessingby Hall, as he will be dearly missed.

It's a worry when you have to leave a loved one in care, you wonder if she will be alright, will she be afraid, will she feel alone, how will she manage? Well, I can honestly say that all my fears and worries have gone thanks to the staff at Bessingby Hall. COVID has been a terrible time for everyone but the commitment and dedication shown has been second to none. My lovely mum was diagnosed with COVID in hospital and I was contacted by a doctor to be asked if she would like a chaplain! Mum was sent back to Bessingby, not expected to last much longer. It's now been more than nine weeks and mum is remarkable! And this is all down to the manager and two other members of staff who were totally amazing at assessing mum and recognising her individual needs. I would just like to say the biggest thank you ever to everyone at Bessingby for making me feel that my much-loved mum is in the best care possible and that's because they do care! Finally, to the manager, you are a star, thanks for the video calls.

Reply from Jane Wade, Home Manager at Oaktree Hall & Lodge

My father was a resident at the Hall from May 2019 until the beginning of December 2019, having been assessed as able to return to his own home. I believe that the care provided by all the team at Bessingby Hall is the reason why Dad has been able to go home. Throughout his stay, I found all the care team helpful and felt confident he was being looked after appropriately. Any issues that arose were dealt with by the manager and team promptly and I found the communication very good. Dad, in his own words "has no complaints" I think he misses the food and the social contact which he found very good. He built up a good rapport with a number of the carers and residents. All in all, it was a positive experience for Dad and we as a family were happy with the care provided.

My husband went into Bessingby in October 2018 with dementia with Lewy Bodies and secondary Parkinsons. He sadly passed away at the end of June having spent nine months living at Bessingby. Throughout the whole nine months the staff, without exception, looked after him with the utmost care. Nothing was ever too much trouble for any of the staff. At the end of his life, I (together with my sister-in-law) stayed at the home for 6 days and nights. The manager and staff provided us with every amenity (including a bed). During the last week of my husband's life, the staff went way beyond expectations in their care of not just my husband but myself and my sister-in-law. My husband, therefore, had what he had wished for, his wife by his side and a caring and peaceful end of life. I'll be forever grateful to the manager and all her staff for the care my husband received. Also the care they all gave to me throughout the whole nine months.
