St Mary's Care Centre

After 18 months as a resident, I think my wife continues to receive excellent care and support. The care home has excellent staff who demonstrates compassion, emotional intelligence and a splendid sense of humour!

From my sister and I attending to look at rooms available and explaining our situation, we were greeted by lovely, accommodating staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We were shown around, and a garden room was reserved for Mum. Mum was fast-tracked to St Marys on the 17th of April from the infirmary. From arriving at St Marys, Mum was greeted with kindness and dignity and made as comfortable as she could be. Staff came in and introduced themselves, even the cleaning staff. Everyone was lovely, we were also able to take the dog in for Mum to see him, and Mum could have anything she wanted. We hadn't realised how ill Mum was and how much pain she was in. The staff were amazing, especially the nurse that supported ourselves and did everything for Mum at the end. We only wish Mum has been well enough to have appreciated how lovely the place and people were. We can't thank them enough.

My mother spent six weeks at St Mary's Care Centre; it was a fantastic experience for her. She needed respite for a fall and consequent broken hip. The staff treated her as though she was a relative, they loved her, and she loved them. Nothing was too much trouble, and their care was second to none. She looked forward to meal times, the great variety and the social setting. It was rather like a day out every day with friends at a restaurant. There was a vast array of activities every morning and afternoon, from chair exercise classes, bowls and skittles to film and group reading. A big thank you to the whole team for all their efforts.

Since my mum (87) has been a resident at St Marys Care Centre, Anlaby her care from the carers and management team has been exemplary. From the very first day of Mum's arrival and the start of a new chapter, as a family, we knew that Mum would be in the best of care and 24-hour support and this has been proven. Every member of the nursing staff is absolutely brilliant in their approach to Mum's needs. She, as we have, now has an extended family, knowing that Mum is in the best of care for her medical and emotional needs. Every time my family visit Mum the care home is immaculate and clean but still has a warm homely feeling. Mum's room, which faces onto the internal garden, is beautiful and with wildlife which gives Mum stimulation throughout the day. The three meals a day Mum takes are of a very high standard whilst nutritious and having taken lunch with Mum I can vouch for this. Finally, the activities are varied and fun. As a family, we are very happy with Mum's care. Thank you St Marys.

I can only express my personal feelings which are, I am living in a lovely environment, which I really enjoy because the staff are so kind and friendly, and the "home" is a pleasure to live in. Nothing is too much trouble for them to make it "like home".

My mum has been a resident since May 2022; this was after a hospital stay. Initially, Mum stayed for respite and then decided it was best for her health and general wellness that this became a permanent placement. Mum has been well looked after and has settled well; she has an array of social activities, and the staff have been very welcoming and supportive of Mum's care needs.

We visited our mother in your care home and were very pleased with the care our mother received. The facilities and rooms are excellent, and we found the staff very responsive to our requests, and should she need future care, we would be very happy for her to be there. Many thanks.

My mother has been at St Mary’s for a few months now, and I couldn’t be more comfortable and content with her care. She has multiple complex needs - both physical and mental that require nursing care and, most of all, compassion and patience. The whole team are supportive and approachable from the manager, nursing leads and care assistant to everyone who works in the team. In recent weeks, we have needed to communicate intensely to manage her condition (recognising that she is still relatively new to the facility - the team wanted the best insights to assist them); the team have done an incredible job to engage me, and a whole host of other stakeholders and multi-disciplinary team to care for Mum at a challenging time. Thanks so much!

My husband was in St Mary’s for the last five weeks of his life, and he was well looked after by the excellent caring staff. I was also well cared for when I came in to sit with him - I very much appreciated the warmth of the staff and their kindness to all the family at a very difficult time.

Following the first visit for respite care, my husband returned for two further visits. At all times, we were impressed with the loving, kind, professional care provided by all the staff. The building was always clean and brightly decorated. My husband's room was lovely, looking out onto the garden. The food was excellent. I was always able to speak to a knowledgeable person about my husband's condition - even late at night. The staff, at all levels, were always kind, helpful and supportive to me, while also being fully compliant with Covid restrictions. We have used various other residential and nursing homes in the area, and I would unhesitatingly say that St Mary's is far and away the best.

Our mum has been a resident here for nearly two years, so this review is well overdue. This was our first choice of a care home when making the decision to find Mum a permanent placement due to ill health. She had previously stayed at St Mary's for respite, and we knew she would be well looked after here. The rooms are bright and sunny, the gardens are well-tended, and the communal areas are lovely. The building is always been cleaned and smells lovely. We have often commented that when we went in, it always had a feel-good factor. All of the staff are a credit to this place, and I must stress that they have been amazing in looking after our mum, from the carers to the nurses, the kitchen staff, the laundry ladies, the cleaners and the office staff and management. Choosing a permanent care home for a close relative is probably one of the most difficult tasks we have ever been faced with. We know that we made the right decision by choosing St Mary's. Thank you all so much.

St Mary’s have an ‘outstanding’ rating for ‘responsive’ in their CQC rating. In my recent experience, I can attest to that, even after a change of leadership. Have no worries, it is still well deserved. Following an email to the manager, I had a prompt and positive response, and a socially distanced meeting with a member of staff and the manager was arranged for the very next day. I should add that the email was not to express any concerns. It was merely requesting feedback about Mum’s situation and to get some help of an administrative nature. Both these things were fully addressed in a positive and friendly manner, leaving me feeling much more settled. I have always been treated with politeness, professionalism and patience, never being made to feel like a nuisance by the staff at St Mary’s despite this being such a difficult time for everyone. I am grateful to all the staff for all that they have done and continue to do. Thank you!

My dad was admitted following a traumatic hospital period resulting in him no longer being able to live at his house. At the age of 98, this was all especially daunting for him, but as soon as he reached St Mary’s he felt reassured and cared for. All the staff were helpful and considerate explaining things to me (his son) and the whole process of getting my dad settled in a safe environment came as a great relief. I can see how much happier he is now. The care he is receiving is extremely good and the staff work extremely hard to enrich the lives of residents, whilst also keeping them safe in these difficult conditions. To anyone faced with the difficult task of a relative needing to go into a care home, they should look towards St Mary’s.

I originally found this outstanding home after visiting many unacceptable ones. Their attention to detail in every aspect is proven by the fact that it has had no Coronavirus cases - visiting during this period has been made possible with carefully organised visits outside the building during the summer, organised by a dedicated staff member. Now, as winter approaches, a new external access door into a spare room is being constructed with perspex protection between visitor and resident. Great peace of mind for us as family members.

Extremely happy with all aspects of St Marys Care Facility. Would recommend to others in a similar circumstance. Management has reacted very well to the current covid situation. Food is very good, entertainment just right for my mother. Keep up the good works.
