My friend had to be moved into a nursing home, and I couldn't have found a nicer place for her. She has settled in well after not wanting to go into a home. The staff are brilliant, kind and thoughtful, making my job a lot easier to do after looking after her for over 30 years plus.
Thank you to everyone
- a difficult job well done by all.

Since my mum (87) has been a resident at St Marys Care Centre, Anlaby her care from the carers and management team has been exemplary. From the very first day of Mum's arrival and the start of a new chapter, as a family, we knew that Mum would be in the best of care and 24-hour support and this has
been proven. Every member of the nursing staff is absolutely brilliant in their approach to Mum's needs. She, as we have, now has an extended family, knowing that Mum is in the best of care for her medical and emotional needs. Every time my family visit Mum the care home is immaculate and clean but still has a warm homely feeling. Mum's room, which faces onto the internal garden, is beautiful and with wildlife which gives Mum stimulation throughout the day. The three meals a day Mum takes are of a very high standard whilst nutritious and having taken lunch with Mum I can vouch for this. Finally, the activities are varied and fun. As a family, we are very happy with Mum's care. Thank you St Marys.
Reply from Paul Millar, Marketing Manager at St Mary's Care CentreDear Darren, many thanks for taking the time to review our home. It is our pleasure to care for your mum. We are very proud of the team at St Marys Care Centre and the service they provide and I will of course pass on your kind words to all at the home.

I can only express my personal feelings which are, I am living in a lovely environment, which I really enjoy because the staff are so kind and friendly, and the "home" is a pleasure to live in. Nothing is too much trouble for them to make it "like home".

My mum has been a resident since May 2022; this was after a hospital stay. Initially, Mum stayed for respite and then decided it was best for her health and general wellness that this became a permanent placement. Mum has been well looked after and has settled well; she has an array of social activities,
and the staff have been very welcoming and supportive of Mum's care needs.

I have resided at the St Marys Care Centre for the past four and a half months after a number of falls at my bungalow followed by spells in hospital.
I have made friends here, and the staff are kind and helpful.
There is something for everyone, and activities include chair exercises, quizzes and
boccia, plus a well-stocked library where one can read the daily papers. There are also two lounges where you can meet friends or relates for a cuppa and chat. Lovely trees and a garden with seats. Of course, it's not like your own home, but I can recommend it as the next best place.

My mother has been at St Mary’s for a few months now, and I couldn’t be more comfortable and content with her care. She has multiple complex needs - both physical and mental that require nursing care and, most of all, compassion and patience. The whole team are supportive and approachable from the manager,
nursing leads and care assistant to everyone who works in the team. In recent weeks, we have needed to communicate intensely to manage her condition (recognising that she is still relatively new to the facility - the team wanted the best insights to assist them); the team have done an incredible job to engage me, and a whole host of other stakeholders and multi-disciplinary team to care for Mum at a challenging time. Thanks so much!

Following the first visit for respite care, my husband returned for two further visits. At all times, we were impressed with the loving, kind, professional care provided by all the staff. The building was always clean and brightly decorated. My husband's room was lovely, looking out onto the garden.
The food was excellent. I was always able to speak to a knowledgeable person about my husband's condition - even late at night. The staff, at all levels, were always kind, helpful and supportive to me, while also being fully compliant with Covid restrictions. We have used various other residential and nursing homes in the area, and I would unhesitatingly say that St Mary's is far and away the best.

Our mum has been a resident here for nearly two years, so this review is well overdue. This was our first choice of a care home when making the decision to find Mum a permanent placement due to ill health. She had previously stayed at St Mary's for respite, and we knew she would be well looked after
here. The rooms are bright and sunny, the gardens are well-tended, and the communal areas are lovely. The building is always been cleaned and smells lovely. We have often commented that when we went in, it always had a feel-good factor. All of the staff are a credit to this place, and I must stress that they have been amazing in looking after our mum, from the carers to the nurses, the kitchen staff, the laundry ladies, the cleaners and the office staff and management. Choosing a permanent care home for a close relative is probably one of the most difficult tasks we have ever been faced with. We know that we made the right decision by choosing St Mary's. Thank you all so much.
Reply from Tracy Kilford, Manager at St Mary's Care CentreThank you so much for this fab review. It is much appreciated by myself and all the staff team, particularly during this pandemic. My mother has been a resident since last October 2020, right at the start of the second lockdown. Although it has been really difficult for me with a lack of physical contact with Mum, the staff have done their very best to ensure Mum is happy. If there were any changes with regards to Mum; they contacted
me straight away, where they listened and acted on any of my suggestions.
Mum tells me the staff are 'fantastic', which is just lovely to hear.

St Mary’s have an ‘outstanding’ rating for ‘responsive’ in their CQC rating. In my recent experience, I can attest to that, even after a change of leadership. Have no worries, it is still well deserved. Following an email to the manager, I had a prompt and positive response, and a socially distanced
meeting with a member of staff and the manager was arranged for the very next day. I should add that the email was not to express any concerns. It was merely requesting feedback about Mum’s situation and to get some help of an administrative nature. Both these things were fully addressed in a positive and friendly manner, leaving me feeling much more settled. I have always been treated with politeness, professionalism and patience, never being made to feel like a nuisance by the staff at St Mary’s despite this being such a difficult time for everyone. I am grateful to all the staff for all that they have done and continue to do. Thank you!

My dad was admitted following a traumatic hospital period resulting in him no longer being able to live at his house. At the age of 98, this was all especially daunting for him, but as soon as he reached St Mary’s he felt reassured and cared for. All the staff were helpful and considerate explaining
things to me (his son) and the whole process of getting my dad settled in a safe environment came as a great relief. I can see how much happier he is now. The care he is receiving is extremely good and the staff work extremely hard to enrich the lives of residents, whilst also keeping them safe in these difficult conditions. To anyone faced with the difficult task of a relative needing to go into a care home, they should look towards St Mary’s.

I originally found this outstanding home after visiting many unacceptable ones. Their attention to detail in every aspect is proven by the fact that it has had no Coronavirus cases - visiting during this period has been made possible with carefully organised visits outside the building during the summer,
organised by a dedicated staff member. Now, as winter approaches, a new external access door into a spare room is being constructed with perspex protection between visitor and resident. Great peace of mind for us as family members.
Reply from Karen Hey, Manager at St Mary's Care CentreThank you Melvin for your wonderful review of our Care Home.

My father has been a resident at St Mary's for around 10 years and during that time my family and I have always been impressed by the quality of care provided. The staff are professional and considerate. Many of them have been there for several years and my father has had the same named carer for almost
his entire stay. We have been grateful for this continuity of care. The staff are cheerful and friendly with the residents and families alike. The residents' rooms and the 'public' areas (dining room, lounge, library, reception etc) are decorated and furnished to a high standard and are always clean and well maintained. We have been particularly impressed by the decisions taken by Senior Managers and the actions of all the staff during the Covid-19 pandemic. Understanding the risk to their residents they didn't wait for government advice and went into lockdown early. They have helped relatives stay in touch via Skype or FaceTime and have introduced safe outdoor visits.
Reply from Karen Hey, Manager at St Mary's Care CentreThank you, Jan, for your support and very kind comments. The decisions we made several months ago were not necessarily popular at the time but gave all our residents additional protection from the virus. Thank you for recognizing our low turnover of staff and how that helps us to maintain our high standards.

My mother has been in St Mary’s for three and a half years and in that time I’ve never had a reason to be concerned about her welfare. Every time I visit I am impressed by the politeness and professionalism of all the staff. There is plenty of parking for visiting and there is a kitchenette for visitors
to make hot drinks and I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
The premises are always kept very clean and fresh and the spacious outside grounds are always very well tended. It has a luxurious dining room that serves a varied menu, and the main lounge has daily activities or entertainment.
It gives me peace of mind knowing that my mother is being well cared for and is happy and content living there.

My sister, who has Parkinson's disease, was admitted to St Mary's in autumn 2019 for a period of respite care. At admission, sadly, her overall health was poor, as she had lost considerable weight and acquired a deep bedsore at her home in an assisted living scheme. The St Marys staff painstakingly
nursed my sister back to good overall health: an extraordinary achievement. Her bedsore has now completely healed and she has gained good weight. Most importantly, my family and I have absolute confidence in the staff, procedures and facilities at St Mary's. So much so in fact, that my sister is now a full resident. The light, airy, purpose-built facility has a pleasant atmosphere and its staff are caring, supportive and dedicated. Accordingly, we have absolute peace of mind that my sister is receiving the best level of care that can be provided. The lack of Covid-19 cases at St Mary's underlines, in my view, both the quality of their services and unerring attention to detail.
Reply from Karen Hey, Manager at St Mary's Care CentreThank you Steve for your kind and generous review and for recognising the very high standards we are able to achieve. We are all working in very challenging times, and it is wonderful when the team are appreciated for their dedication.

If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
