Manager and all staff were amazing. He was well looked after, and nothing was too much trouble.
100% will recommend this home.

My little mum has been a resident at St Mary's for four years, and in those four years, she has been shown nothing but kindness. Towards the end, the dementia often made our little mum challenging. The staff all loved Mum, and she was treated like family, like their granny.
If she ever fell over,
they took good care of her and rang us immediately. We cannot thank them enough. Our mum's face lit up when the staff came to chat with her. When Mum passed away recently, they were there for her, myself and my sisters. Fantastic staff!

My 94-year-old mother has just passed away in St Mary’s. All I can say is that we, as a family, wouldn’t have wanted her to be anywhere else. She has been well looked after, and the staff have been amazing throughout her four years there. They went above and beyond and really looked after us too, in
the final days of Mother's life. There are some very special people in there. I would recommend the home to anyone who is considering a loved one staying there! It’s a challenging job, and I have nothing but praise for the whole team - thank you all.

My relative has been at St Mary's for about six weeks. Initially, she came for respite but has stayed on as this is the best care option for her. She says she is being very well looked after. She can be stubborn about leaving her room but then realises it's the best thing for her to get out of bed,
so thank you for getting her confidence back.

I was very involved in the admission of my friend for a short stay to enable her daughter to go on a break. I was and still am most impressed with the staff and management and the way they enabled and reassured my friend in a very difficult situation. I have visited regularly and found my friend settled
and happy with other residents, chatty and laughing. The food looks lovely and is always served on lovely, clean tablecloths. Nothing too much trouble for anyone. So pleased that, although the home was getting ready for refurbishment, it has not affected good care.

I have had reservations regarding St Mary's in the past but I have to say that since it's been under new management I have noticed a vast improvement. I have started to notice changes and even the attitudes the staff seem to have towards residents seem a lot more caring, especially the caring manners
they show residents at mealtimes, which I've sat and listened in earshot. A big improvement.

All the carers on the floor are very caring and work under challenging circumstances. There are some staff that go above and beyond their remit, sometimes being reprimanded for doing so. As a family, we value the care they give. Activities are getting better. The turnover for staff is a worry, this
isn't good for the residents who build bonds with them. Some training for bedside manner is required for a couple of nurses in particular, we were not happy when they were on shift.

When my mother first came into St Mary's in February 2022. The quality of are was very poor, low staff morale and the building was dirty and smelly. The new management team have worked hard to improve all aspects of the care provided. Things are consistently getting better on all fronts. Hopefully,
good standards and working practise will be well established for moving into the new building.

My dad was in this care home for 10 months and had a really bad time! The manager took him on without the relevant equipment and that resulted in him being left in bed for most of his stay until he passed away. The family have been to safeguarding and the CQC as well as taking it to higher management.
Safeguarding have given them 10 recommendations! Staff are leaving all the time. I heard other families are going through the same, all complaining and have told me they too have complained about the home.
More has to be done about this home, the residents are just left, its sad to see. If there was an option for no stars I would have selected that.

This is not a simple review, given we are only just emerging from a global pandemic. However, I feel that my mother has been well cared for throughout an extended period of lockdown and enforced isolation. On the visits I was allowed, the staff always appeared helpful and courteous. The food always
looks appetising and the facilities clean.

Jayne Boothby is the proud Home Manager of St Mary’s Nursing Home.


After caring for her Grandfather, Jayne decided that this was the career for her and has stayed for over 30 years.


Starting her career in nursing, Jayne was later been Clinical Nurse Manager at a Hull Nursing Home and is vastly experienced in operating homes similar to St Mary’s.


This experience enables Jayne to have good working relationships with healthcare professionals in the area. An important fact when dealing with new residents is that these relationships ensure a frictionless move from home or hospital into St Mary’s Nursing Home.


Jayne is a natural caregiver; this is apparent when you first walk into St Mary’s Nursing Home. This friendliness is reflected in the care team, all of whom are warm and helpful, easing the transition into a care setting for all new residents.


Outside of work, Jayne is a keen Angler and supports the “Hull Fishing Heritage Centre “of which her husband, Jerry, is chairman.


The Centre provides people with information, artefacts, and resources to help them understand the role of fishing in Hull’s heritage and identity.
