My grandad was brought in as an emergency from another home. He was only with the home for 5 days as he was end of life and the care he received was outstanding. The staff couldn’t do enough for him and us as a family. We are so grateful for the care he received.

My grandad came for emergency respite.
Manager and all staff were amazing. He was well looked after, and nothing was too much trouble.

My little mum has been a resident at St Mary's for four years, and in those four years, she has been shown nothing but kindness. Towards the end, the dementia often made our little mum challenging. The staff all loved Mum, and she was treated like family, like their granny.

If she ever fell over, they took good care of her and rang us immediately. We cannot thank them enough. Our mum's face lit up when the staff came to chat with her. When Mum passed away recently, they were there for her, myself and my sisters. Fantastic staff!

My 94-year-old mother has just passed away in St Mary’s. All I can say is that we, as a family, wouldn’t have wanted her to be anywhere else. She has been well looked after, and the staff have been amazing throughout her four years there. They went above and beyond and really looked after us too, in the final days of Mother's life. There are some very special people in there. I would recommend the home to anyone who is considering a loved one staying there! It’s a challenging job, and I have nothing but praise for the whole team - thank you all.

My mum has the absolute best care we could have hoped for. She stated, "I couldn't have had better service if I was in a top London hotel".

All the staff are very professional and love their jobs.

My relative has been at St Mary's for about six weeks. Initially, she came for respite but has stayed on as this is the best care option for her. She says she is being very well looked after. She can be stubborn about leaving her room but then realises it's the best thing for her to get out of bed, so thank you for getting her confidence back.

Review from Nancy B (Friend of Resident) published on 25 September 2023 Submitted via Postal Card

I was very involved in the admission of my friend for a short stay to enable her daughter to go on a break. I was and still am most impressed with the staff and management and the way they enabled and reassured my friend in a very difficult situation. I have visited regularly and found my friend settled and happy with other residents, chatty and laughing. The food looks lovely and is always served on lovely, clean tablecloths. Nothing too much trouble for anyone. So pleased that, although the home was getting ready for refurbishment, it has not affected good care.

Review from Wendy W (Daughter of Resident) published on 16 August 2023 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

I have had reservations regarding St Mary's in the past but I have to say that since it's been under new management I have noticed a vast improvement. I have started to notice changes and even the attitudes the staff seem to have towards residents seem a lot more caring, especially the caring manners they show residents at mealtimes, which I've sat and listened in earshot. A big improvement.

All the carers on the floor are very caring and work under challenging circumstances. There are some staff that go above and beyond their remit, sometimes being reprimanded for doing so. As a family, we value the care they give. Activities are getting better. The turnover for staff is a worry, this isn't good for the residents who build bonds with them. Some training for bedside manner is required for a couple of nurses in particular, we were not happy when they were on shift.

When my mother first came into St Mary's in February 2022. The quality of are was very poor, low staff morale and the building was dirty and smelly. The new management team have worked hard to improve all aspects of the care provided. Things are consistently getting better on all fronts. Hopefully, good standards and working practise will be well established for moving into the new building.
