At Saltshouse Haven, an extensively trained team of staff provide residential care, including care for adults diagnosed with dementia. Packages available include respite, convalescence and palliative provision.

This homely facility is equipped for modern care practice, having its own assisted bathrooms and shower rooms, and furniture to fit different levels of physical mobility. A light and airy conservatory is great for unwinding.

Meals can be taken in the dining room or in the privacy of residents’ own rooms, with mid-morning and afternoon treats also available, and personal tastes accounted for.

Many hobbies have been embraced by residents, individually and as a group, with film screenings and musical afternoons proving popular and monthly events that include a ‘Best of British’ celebration.

Myself and my family always found the staff pleasant and helpful. The whole building was always clean and tidy. The food was always nice. We had no complaints whatsoever about the staff or the place.

Both the admin team and the care team were extremely helpful and caring from before my aunt took up residence. This friendly care continued until after my aunt sadly passed away. Very homely environment. Staff that really care.

When Bilton Lodge is fully staffed I.e. Four staff and a senior, it runs quite well with no problems. Occasionally one staff member is sent to replace absent staff on other lodges. When this happens the lounge area can be left unattended for 5 to 15 minutes, this can cause stress to patients in wheelchairs
or seated who cannot move away from an occasionally disruptive patient.
Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Saltshouse Haven Care HomeThank you for your review; we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. The happiness and well-being of all our Residents are of paramount importance to us. Unfortunately, staff will call in ill occasionally at short notice which does not give the home adequate time to arrange for immediate cover. When this occurs we will look to utilise our existing staff in the home and use their skill mix accordingly to support all lodges whilst we seek cover. I appreciate this is not ideal but it does work well for immediate support until covering staff can come into the home.

Myself and my family cannot thank the care home enough for the support they have given us since my grandad came into Saltshouse Haven. The care my grandad has received has been amazing. Thank you to all staff and especially on Meaux Lodge.

During my dad's time at Saltshouse Haven, he was given the utmost care and attention. All the staff were very kind and wonderful. During his final moments, I found the girls to be utterly compassionate and sympathetic to the situation. I can't praise them enough.
Thank you for all your hard work.

Saltshouse Haven Care Home is the best home we've encountered. Unfortunately, we've had experience of homes that fall well below standard. We liked the way the home was divided into lodges making small communities rather than having one huge lounge for everyone. The gardens make it a lovely setting.
The home is clean and fairly fresh, which is hard to achieve when dealing with the elderly and disabled.
Nurses were compassionate and staff were trying their best to look after everyone. Food was appetising. Staff from management to carers were always busy, no one lounging about like in some homes.

We have been using this service for the last two years. At first, we were unsure of the care as some of the staff were a bit off hand and made us feel uncomfortable asking questions. Then, my Mum was moved and it was a completely different atmosphere. The staff were very caring and made us feel at home
and you could ask any questions. If there were any concerns someone would always ring us. Lots of activities and fun days which we were willing to help with. We lost our Mum in November but all the staff were wonderful to the very end. Thank you all.

I cannot thank the carers, lodge manager and housekeepers enough. My friend moved in last year after a very severe stroke. She is cared for with kindness and dignity.
This is a very busy care home but nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Thank you all.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.624)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.624) out of 10 for Saltshouse Haven Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.624 for Saltshouse Haven Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (245 Excellents x 5) + (100 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 362 Ratings = 4.624
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Saltshouse Haven Care Home is based on 30 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 150 registered maximum number of service users is 30, which has been reached with 30 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
