Berwick Grange provides nursing dementia, residential dementia, palliative and short-stay care for up to 52 residents in a purpose-built home in the spa town of Harrogate.

Just a short walk from The Stray park, the home offers residents a peaceful setting close to local cafés, garden centres and the town’s historic attractions. Inside, the home is arranged over three floors, with smaller household-style communities that support familiarity and connection. All bedrooms are single occupancy with en-suite facilities.

The secure landscaped gardens feature raised beds, shaded seating, and a courtyard patio—ideal for gentle gardening, wildlife watching or enjoying a quiet cup of tea. Residents are encouraged to stay involved outdoors, with vegetable patches and seasonal planting.

Meals are freshly prepared on site using high-quality ingredients. Menus include traditional favourites like roast dinners, stews and cottage pies, with input from residents. Mealtimes are enhanced with themed days, seasonal tastings and birthday celebrations with personalised cakes.

Life at Berwick Grange includes music therapy, arts and crafts, Tiny Tablet activities, and sensory support. Regular trips to Harrogate and special events like Seize the Day experiences ensure every resident can stay active, engaged and connected to their interests.

At Berwick Grange, care isn’t just about support, it’s about creating a community where residents thrive. Whether you’re searching for yourself or a loved one, for nursing dementia, residential dementia, palliative or short-stay care, the team at Berwick Grange are here to help.

I thought Berwick Grange was a superb care home which I thoroughly enjoyed visiting my Grandad in. We would always be greeted with a warm welcome by the staff. My Grandad would always have a laugh with the carers and enjoyed chatting them and they were able to put up with him being stubborn! All the
residents seemed content. I would recommend this care home for all round care and support for the family who are welcome at all times and can get involved with their frequent events.

Thank you for your kind words which have been shared with the team at Berwick Grange. I’m glad your Grandfather enjoyed his time with us. We are working to improve the ‘Cleanliness’ and ‘Food and Drink’ ratings from satisfactory to good or hopefully excellent. Additional Housekeepers are being recruited to maintain the environment and new snack boxes have been introduced on all floors which have received positive feedback and of course, residents are still given a variety of options at meal times.

A wonderful, caring environment. Could not have wished for a better home for my dad for the last couple of years of his life.

My mother was a resident for nearly four years at this home. She received excellent care during this time and was treated with both dignity and a very friendly manager. The home itself is a bright, spotlessly clean and attractive place with a large selection of activities. The staff are knowledgeable,
kind and warm in their approach.

My Mum became a resident of this wonderful care home in May 2015 having been cared for by my Dad, with help from me for over 6 years. It was a heartbreaking decision but Dad at 91 was both physically and mentally exhausted. Having looked at 4 other dementia care homes, walking through the doors at Berwick
Grange was for us such a relief. We immediately felt the warmth and compassion of the staff and the spacious comfortable open plan lounge/dining room was buzzing with activity. She loved the varied musical entertainment. We could visit anytime, greeted with updates on Mum who was always clean, fresh and dressed appropriately in her favourite clothes. Her personal needs were tended to gently and with absolute dignity; she was safe and enjoyed excellent well-presented food.
The management and staff were second to none. Mum's eyes had always shone with trust for them and in the last 8 weeks of her life, I really understood why - the staff genuinely and wholeheartedly cared. Thank you.

My mother is aged 88 and has been a resident at Berwick Grange for 6 months. The welcome for her and visiting family has been exceptional. The atmosphere, care and provision for residents is something special. An activities programme is published weekly and residents are encouraged/helped to participate.
The improvement in my mother in the 6 months she has been at Berwick Grange is very noticeable. She is happy, less agitated and generally more 'with it'. Staff morale appears to be high and I am impressed with the level of training staff receive and their ability to engage/employ strategies to engage with residents. I visit at different times/days. I feel my mother is treated as a person.

All the staff are friendly and approachable, the bedroom of my friend is spotless with fresh flowers on the chest of drawers. The doors in the lounge are open for access to the garden. There is music playing for a sing song. It is very nice.

My husband was treated very well the day he was transferred from the hospital to the nursing home. He wasn't very pleasant to the people who were helping him but they got on with the job of getting him sorted and into bed. The staff throughout are very cheerful and helpful and nothing is too much trouble
for them. My husband has settled down now and seems very happy where he is.

My mum was looked after in a caring and diligent manner. I had no idea what end stage dementia was like. I was glad that we could get mum into Berwick Grange from the hospital. She had a peaceful and caring end to her life. All seemed to be looked after in a dignified way. Thank you.

I am amazed by the kind, caring and cheerful staff at Bewick Grange. My Auntie, who has dementia is well cared for and generally happy. She can be difficult at times, arguing, being rude and aggressive and even hitting, but despite this, the staff speak kindly and fondly of her and always treat her
with dignity. I am amazed that when my Aunty wets herself or the floor or the future, the staff are keen to "give her a lovely bubble bath" and never show anything else but patience and generosity towards her. As her visitors, we are greeted as friends when we visit. Thank you.

Berwick Grange was home for my mother for the last 18 months of her long life. She passed away on September 10th 2016 at the age of 93 peacefully and with the dignity due to the endless care and diligence of the excellent staff. She had little cognitive ability left when she went into the home, but
she settled immediately and always had a smile on her face. As a family, we are eternally grateful for the wonderful, wonderful staff and facilities afforded to mum and Berwick Grange. Thank you.

My aunt to whom I am very close has been a resident of Berwick Grange for over two years. We live some distance away but try to visit at least twice a month. We usually arrive unannounced and always find the care and love shown by the staff to my aunt and all residence to be wonderful. Loads of activities
and always home baking available. All birthdays and other special dates are celebrated. I cannot recommend this care home more highly.

My father was a resident at the home for 9 months. The staff were very helpful and caring both to my father and the family. The allowed us to visit day and evenings. Despite my father having both Parkinson's disease and dementia and sometimes being disorientated, frightened and awkward the were patient
and kind. The surroundings are good, cleanliness good. Staff excellent.
(The menu is not always suitable for the age and feeding ability of the residents).

Care given to our aunt is of the highest standard. She is always well dressed, clean and hair and nails well kept. The staff including management, office, catering and carers all know the residents by name and take a part in the overall experience for residents and relatives. We often call unannounced
and observe same quality of care and kindness shown to all. The quality of entertainment of very high standard too. The catering is excellent. really good wholesome tasty meals.

My experience of Berwick Grange has been very good. All the staff are extremely caring and helpful and always make us feel welcome. Not only is the quality of care and nursing good but the environment e.g his room, the lounge and gardens are always well maintained and provide different options for our
visits. They are particularly good at naturally bringing relatives together for mutual support. This is a particularly important feature for me and my family. Thank you.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.038)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.038) out of 10 for Berwick Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.861 for Berwick Grange is calculated as follows: ( (62 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.861

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.177 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Berwick Grange is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 52 registered maximum number of service users is 10.4. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.4 = 0.577

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
