Mum came into Maple Lodge in January 2018 after a period in hospital. This was not a ‘planned’ for move and mum has needed and been given a lot of support, encouragement and care by all of the staff.

This has not been an easy time but has been made much easier through the understanding of the manager and the trust and confidence that we have in him to manage mum's safety and care. Living a long distance away I have been helped to stay in touch through emailed letters and phone calls to mum via both the manager and staff and have had all of my questions answered which is very reassuring. Staff are friendly and work hard, clearly caring for their residents, and I feel able to contact the home without being a nuisance!

Reply from Kevin Robinson-Husband, Manager at Maple Lodge Care Home

Thank you, Donna, we will continue to support and you know that we are always here to support yourselves and your mum.

My mother spent 4 weeks in Maple Lodge. During that time, her hearing aids were put through the laundry and her glasses went missing.
I found the bedroom corridors frequently smelt of urine. Staff were difficult to find, and the reception was frequently unmanned.
Despite being told that mum needed assistance dressing and washing, this was not done. Mum's dentures went missing for 3 days, and upon checking the pot she soaks them in, I found it full of dirty water.
The "activities" consisted largely of putting either the TV or CD player on. In the afternoons, an activity called 1-2-1 seemed to consist of nothing more than putting residents into a common room and leaving them there.

I will never let my mum go into this home again.

My dear husband spent the last 8months of his life at this amazing nursing home. Sadly I could not manage any longer at home. Their care for him was amazing, such kindness and he was treated with great dignity. The entire team were like a family to us, I spent the last 8nights at the home when his end of life was imminent. They made me so welcome. His needs were great as he couldn't walk, talk or swallow but the staff dealt with it all with such compassion and professionalism. I cannot thank Maple Lodge enough.

Agreeing to residential care for our mother was difficult; like most people she had hoped to remain in her own home but that became unsafe due to the progression of her Alzheimer's. A serious incident led to hospital admission and family visiting many local care homes. We were immediately impressed with all the staff we had contact with at Maple Lodge and have been delighted with the care and support they continue to give our mother.

We are so pleased we chose Maple Lodge and highly recommend the staff, management and the parent company, Burlington Care.

Apparently, Burlington Care took over the home shortly before Mum arrived and it has been noticeable that further improvements are being made.

Christianne Job Title:Deputy Manager/Residential Unit Manager (CHAP)Joined: 1998

I have worked at Maple Lodge since 1998. Previous to that, I worked from the age of 14 as a shop assistant and then as a kitchen/dining room assistant. Alongside working at Maple Lodge, I also worked in a pub for a few years. In my caring career, I have gained NVQs 2 and 3 in care, safe handling of medications, moving and handling, team leadership, and first aider, as well as progressing to become the home's first-ever Care Home Assistant Practitioner (CHAP). I live in Catterick Garrison with my two daughters Chloe and Katie, and our cat Timmy.

The thing I like most about working at Maple Lodge is I enjoy spending time with and ensuring my residents are safe, clean, and tidy. I like knowing that I am helping them to enjoy their retirement years in a comfortable and homely environment as much as possible.

I have worked at Maple Lodge since 2001. I started working as a kitchen and domestic assistant at the age of 16 whilst still in a sixth-form college. When I turned 18, I changed over to be a care assistant, then a senior care assistant. In 2013, I took on the role of home administrator.

In my career, I have gained NVQ2 & NVQ3 in care, NVQ2 & Diploma Level 3 in business administration, NVQ2 in customer service, and certificates in dementia care, health & safety and diabetes care.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends, watching TV, going to the cinema, holidays and attending church. I started a degree in forensic psychology in October 2020.

I live in Catterick Garrison and have a dog named Ronnie.

The thing I like most about working at Maple Lodge is seeing the residents enjoy their retirement years.

I have worked at Maple Lodge since 2023. Prior to this, I joined the army at 16 years old and served for 23 years in the Royal Artillery. Upon leaving the forces, I retrained as a plumber. I worked for B&Q as a bathroom fitter before going self-employed with my own business for 15 years. I then closed my business and joined Maple Lodge, as the flexible part-time working week enabled me to spend quality time with my grandson.

In my spare time, I enjoy walking with my dog, going to the gym and trying to keep fit. I also collect and restore military firearms.

I have been married to my wife, Sue, for 35 years, and we have two daughters and one grandson. We have our parents still in our hometowns, Eaglescliffe and Newcastle Upon Tyne, where I was born.

The thing I enjoy most about working at Maple Lodge is that it's a great team and I have been made to feel very welcome by everyone working here. Every day is different; it can be challenging, but it is also very rewarding.

Haley Job Title:Activity Coordinator/Senior Care AssistantJoined: 2016

I have worked at Maple Lodge since 2016. Before joining the Maple Lodge team, I worked as a cleaner at the local army camps. I decided to move into the care field as I always felt, from a young age, when I helped my Nan take care of my Grandad, that caring is what I wanted to do.

Since I started work at Maple Lodge, I have gained my NVQ2 in care, certificates in the safe handling of medication, the principles of dementia care, and an understanding of behaviour that challenges. I am also the home's dementia champion. I enjoy having lazy days with my daughters or spending any spare time with my friends and family. I live in Catterick with my two teenage daughters, Abbey and Chloe.

The thing I like most about working at Maple Lodge is making a difference in the residents' lives, making them feel safe and comfortable. I love the unbreakable bonds I have built with every single one of my residents

I have worked at Maple Lodge since 2021. Most of my previous work experience is in customer service, although I did care in my very first job and decided I wanted to get back into it, and I am pleased I did. I have learnt so much since starting at Maple Lodge, and the current manager teaches me a lot as well. I have almost finished my Health & Social Care Level 2 qualification and also passed my Maths & English with grades Cs.

I live in Catterick Garrison with my husband, David and have five children, Kyle, Kane, Sophie, Jamie and Kieren. Most of my free time outside of work is spent with my family.

The thing I like most about working at Maple Lodge is the different responsibilities given to me with my multiple roles. The manager supports me and hopefully trusts me with jobs being given and getting done, and I like the fact that the manager is approachable. The admin helps me in so many different roles and I know that if I have a problem, I can go to them and get advice. I am very happy at Maple Lodge.

I have worked at Maple Lodge since 2022. I had no formal care experience in the UK before working at Maple Lodge. Before this, I worked as an Account Executive in an FMCG company for 6 years and also as a carer in a children's & adults' home in my country, Nigeria. I decided to work in care because I want to make a difference in people's lives every day.

I achieved my WAEC certificate (West African Examination Council) in 2007 and went on to complete my BSc Accounting in 2014. I am currently studying for my MSc in Accounting and Finance at Teesside University. I am single and have no children yet, so in my spare time, I enjoy reading, catching up with world news, watching sports (especially football), playing games such as Ludo, listening to music, volunteering, travelling and relaxing.

The thing I like most about Maple Lodge is that when I joined the team in October 2022, it was easy for me to fit in. I like the clean, well-equipped, and welcoming environment. This is thanks to the committed staff and management. The journey has been awesome for me. It was a new experience for me, but I have learnt new ways to impact others and be more compassionate in one's life every day.

I have worked at Maple Lodge since 2022. I used to work in home care for about a year. Prior to that, I worked with children in nurseries and got my level 2 in childcare. I chose to work in care as I really enjoy it and I find it extremely rewarding, not one day is the same, every day is different and brings new challenges. I recently changed over the the domestic department as this suited my family life with a young child.

I always feel I go home having made a difference in the residents' day. I have no qualifications within care yet, but I'm aiming to do my care qualifications soon to better myself and to ensure I'm giving the best possible care to our residents and being the best I can possibly be.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. We go walking around North Yorkshire, as it's such a beautiful place. My husband and I challenged ourselves for charity a few years ago to walk the Yorkshire Three Peaks. I enjoyed the challenge and seeing how far we could push ourselves physically and mentally. I am married to Russell and have four children: a 20-year-old son, Christian, an 18-year-old daughter, Kaitlyn, a 9-year-old son, George, and an 18-month-old daughter, Gabrielle. We also have a dog named Skye.

The thing I like most about Maple Lodge is working together with our team; we are all so close like a family. Also getting to know and build relationships with each resident, listening to them and their stories. I also love how supportive we are, it’s a home-from-home for our residents, and I love every moment.

I have worked at Maple Lodge since 2021. I’m originally from South Wales but am now based here with my husband and two children.

I have worked as a carer in some capacity or another since the age of 21. After taking a break to have my children, I returned to being a carer. I believe that jobs in the care sector are one of the most important jobs there is, and take a great deal of satisfaction at the end of a shift. I have a QCF level 2 in health and social care. I recently switched to a domestic position as my main role, as the hours suit my home life better.

Looking after my two children, one of whom is autistic, takes up the majority of my time, often attempting to balance forming some semblance of a social life whilst trying to cling on to my sanity! But I do enjoy attending my local church on Sundays and helping out with their mother and toddlers group.

The thing I like most about working at Maple Lodge is getting to know the residents and chatting to them about their lives. I also enjoy working as part of a team, and over the years, Maple Lodge has become a familiar home from home. I love how everyone works as a team to ensure that every resident has a great day, every day.
