  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 20 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for St Catherine's Nursing & Residential Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.665 for St Catherine's Nursing & Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (164 Excellents x 5) + (65 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 236 Ratings = 4.665

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Catherine's Nursing & Residential Care Home is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 11 positive Reviews (55 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 16 Reviews ÷ 11 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My Sister and I found the wonderful St Catherine's just over a year ago. Our Mum had spent time in various NHS specialist Dementia units the time had come for her to find a place that gave Nursing and Caring.
We both knew the moment we entered St Catherine's this was the place for us all.
The friendly greeting given by the staff and very approachable attitude they had, made the choice of moving Mum here a very easy one.
After a couple of visits and the Manager visiting Mum, we joined the happy family team on 11th April 2017.
We have got to know all caring staff and lots of the other residents, we do like to be involved in Mums care.
Our Mum has been a complex case due to her Bi-Polar illness she has had from being young to the onset of Dementia in the past 15 years or so.
St Catherine's team have been amazing in being able to understand her needs and care for her so appropriately over the past year.
We both cant thank St Catherine's enough for the care our Mum is receiving.

Only the best was good enough for my dad and WOW! St Catherine's gives a fantastic level of care. My dad was there for end of life care and only stayed for a few days but the care, not only did he but us as a family, recieved was outstanding. He was comfortable, in a lovely bed with plenty of comfortable pillows and covers. They treated him with the ultimate respect and love from the minute he arrived until he passed peacefully away. The whole staff team were friendly warm and welcoming from the moment we walked through the door, unanounced, to 'check them out'. The menus and food choices were varied and the quality was very high. St Catherines is immaculately clean and homely at the same time. If you need to find a loving, caring home for a love one St Catherine's is the place for them. I cannot praise them enough for what they did for my dad in his final few days.

The care in this home is wonderful. They looked after my Dad in his last few days and showed so much respect and care for his needs and kept him as comfortable as possible. They also looked after us with the same respect and care. They explained everything and spent time talking to us all and to Dad. I can't thank them enough.

We are happy with the care my father is receiving at St Catherine's and more importantly, so is my father. He praises the care staff and their care and attention as well as the cleanliness. His only gripe appears to be about the quality of food at times.

Found a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and a caring environment, like a large family home.
Staff always helpful and sensitive in dealing with relatives. The staff were particularly caring during dads last few days and could have done more. We have no complaints at all.

My mum was a resident at St Catherine's for 7years. She was treated with kindness, love and respect. Nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff. In the last year of mum's life, a new manager was put in place and with her team, in my eyes, have stepped up the game plan, I.E. All staff seemed to have a lot more training courses and staff appeared happier.

My mother has been a resident of the home for the past 10 months and is much more content/relaxed than when she was living on her own. She often comments how lucky she is to be a resident here. She feels safe and secure, which is reassuring to her family. The staff are very attentive to all the resident's needs, and they show a huge amount of compassion and support.

We are extremely happy with the care our mum is getting at St Catherine's. All the nurses and carers are kind, considerate and look after all the residents so well.
The food is excellent and they spend time with each resident making sure they are eating well. They serve regular drinks and snacks, making sure all residents are hydrated. The home is always clean and the manager is always working hard in the office making sure the home is run well, but best of all the wonderful staff are caring for the residents in a fantastic way.

What a gem of a home we have found!! (and I can say this because our mum aged 83 now has spent her whole life in mental health units, hospitals and care homes). Well Done St Catherine's and Wellburn you are very lucky to have such a great team!

This care home is brilliant. The staff look after my mum with the utmost care. Nothing is too much trouble. They let us know when there is a problem. The staff are so friendly when I visit. I would recommend this home to anybody and I do. I feel happy leaving my mum in the care of this home.

Mum has been a resident at the above since August 2010. Initially through lack of mobility, hospitalised following a fall she required 24-hour nursing care. She was then positively diagnosed with dementia and moved on to the mews. Eventually, her personal care needs became more urgent and she was moved to another room in 2015-2016. She is now is bed 24/7 but the care she receives is still outstanding. She is encouraged to eat and drink by all staff despite her abusive tongue. Activities coordinator includes her in all that they do. Eg Mother's Day, Remembrance Day, Summer Barbecue etc. It really is home from home and we all feel like part of a huge family.

We are so very pleased with the care our mum has received and is receiving here at St Catherine's. The care giving staff are so kind and understanding of all the residents' needs. They are extremely welcoming to us as family. Regular activities provide the residents with a great deal of stimulation. My sister and I would definitely recommend St Catherines to someone searching for a homely, caring placement for a member of a family.

My mother has lived there for a few years now and we have been pleased with the way the staff respond to her changing needs.

My only criticism is that there is a regular turn over of staff which is a shame as there have been some extremely motivated people who, for whatever reason, have moved on.

Mum's dementia makes it hard to express herself but she always appears happy in her environment.

Sophie Maccormack, Marketing Assistant at St Catherine's Nursing & Residential Care Home responded to this review on 14 Sep 2017:

I would like to start by thanking you for your comments, we are very pleased to see that on the whole, you find the services we provide to be good.
In response to the comment you have made about our staff turn over, unfortunately, care tends to be a transient industry in which staff do move around. Over the last year Wellburn Care Homes have been concentrating on improving our recruitment and retention procedures and hope that going forward this will provide more stability in the staff team.
Many of the staff who are now leaving are doing so for career development and are able to do this due to the training and experience they have received through Wellburn Care Homes, we wish them all well in their future careers.

Have found the staff very helpful and kind to all residents.
My mother seems very happy and content with the care provided.

If I needed proof that my husband is extremely happy at St Catherine's Residential & Nursing Home, his return to the home from a three week period in hospital was proof enough: he showed how happy he was to be back with immediate effect! In fact, it was astonishing to see the transformation within a few short hours of his return. The care and attention he receives are beyond good: the staff are incredible and go out of their way to ensure the wellbeing and safety of the residents in their care. The smile on my husband's face, a smile I did not see at all during his hospitalisation, returned almost immediately he was back in his room, which made me smile too! I hate to leave him but it is so nice to have the reassurance that he is so well cared for.

My mother has been a resident at St Catherine's for over three years. The staff are outstanding; they have endless patience, are courteous, affectionate, extremely kind and understanding, and somehow always retain their excellent sense of humour. The care my mother receives is personalised, compassionate, and has evolved as her condition has altered; I am always consulted and involved in decisions that involve how the staff support her. A big thank you to the Manager and the team

My wife has been a resident for three years. I visit daily and since the present management took over I have been delighted with the care. As my wife has been in two hospitals and three care homes, I would suggest that mine is a reliable opinion.

The care workers and nurses are fantastic, so patient and understanding, my mum feels she has now many good friends especially the staff. This is the third Dementia Care Home in fifteen months and now one year on still very confused due to the dementia, thankfully finally settled identifying St Catherine's as her home.
Many Thanks
