Rivermead is a purpose-built care home, providing first-class 24 hour general nursing care, as well as expert care for those living with dementia in the Memory Lane Community. The home has 5 exclusive premium rooms overlooking the countryside.

All staff recognise that every individual is unique, and each person will require different kinds of care, the services include residential and nursing care, as well as expert dementia care, all provided bespoke to each person, depending on the individual care needs.

The home has a dedicated 'memory lane community' designed especially to give those with various dementia needs as much independence as possible within a comfortable, stimulating environment, whilst providing loved ones with peace of mind.

Rivermead provides a varied life enrichment programme full of social events and individual hobbies, so there is always something to do and look forward to. Created to empower all residents by cultivating personal interests, activities include exercise, arts and crafts, baking, gardening, music and much more!

My mother has been in Memory Lane for about six weeks now. She is very happy and content, more than she was at home, which we never thought possible. This is because the staff are wonderful in every way. They are professional, caring and have the skills necessary to help with my mother's dementia.
She
is clean and well dressed, her hair looks lovely and staff even give her a manicure from time to time.
Barchester Rivermead Care Home is a happy place, the delicious food is freshly prepared each day and the activities are fun and appropriate.
I couldn't recommend Rivermead more highly.

My husband was fast-tracked to Barchester Rivermead Care Home from the hospital for end-of-life care with Alzheimer's disease. I could not have wished for better care for him after the bad experience he had suffered. Everyone treated both him and me with utmost respect, cared for him gently and sympathetically
and kept me informed.
I have no hesitation in recommending Rivermead and its staff and am deeply grateful for their help when he passed away.

Moving to a care home after 75 years of an astonishingly independent lifestyle is no easy decision, but the superb staff at Rivermead did everything possible to ensure that my sister-in-law quickly felt that Rivermead is now her true home and a happy one. The standards of care, the cleanliness, the
food and the effort made to ensure my sister-in-law's determination and individuality are fully respected impress all her family every time they visit. Visited today to see my Mum, She was in a tiki bar activity. It was a magical experience she was so happy sipping her cocktail and wearing her feather garland. The songs were perfect and triggered memories which we were able to talk about. She knows lots of words and joined in with the singing, clapping
and tapping her feet. She enjoyed laughing at me when I wore a sailor hat and tried singing the words. We were so privileged to be part of the session and see Mum so happy.

My husband has now been at Barchester Rivermead Care Home for about 10-months. He was a bit difficult and can still be at times. The staff deal with him in a lovely and kind manner, with patience and humour to name but a few. I now have peace of mind that he is safe, clean and well-fed. Thank you.

Unfortunately, we had a very poor experience with our father here. He didn’t receive the care or dignity he deserves.
On one occasion (that we saw) he was swung around his room on a hoist to his toilet and had his trousers/pants pulled down without any doors being closed, he was mortified that my
sister was stood there. We’ve found out since, he should’ve been hoisted into a wheelchair and wheeled to the toilet. He was constantly covered in food. No member of staff took his hearing aids out every night to charge them (we left a note asking for this). He couldn’t go to the toilet one time I was visiting, because there was only one member of staff working, the rest were on lunch! He often had to wait long periods of time when he pressed his buzzer for the toilet.
My sister or myself have never seen the manager since the day I looked around. Although I did see a delivery of horse food for her pets?!
My dad stayed for 23 days but spent 9 of those in hospital.
He was very unhappy here.

When my mother was admitted from hospital she was very disorientated but not as unhappy as she had been in hospital. Once she had settled she told me how much she liked it here and she said the staff were kind and helpful. I am relieved that she is in such good hands and delighted I am able to bring
her old dog in to see her. I feel very secure to know she is treated with kindness and respect.

Hi, my name is Sarah and I am the General Manager here at Rivermead.

Here is an opportunity to look at some of our staff team in the home, who all play a vital role in day-to-day life. I have worked in the health and social care sector for several years and I really enjoy working in a nursing home environment and supporting and developing the staff to provide excellent care for our residents.

Hi, my name is Chloe, and I am Deputy Manager here at Rivermead. I started my career in care when I was 18, supporting people in the community. I qualified as an RMN from the University of York in 2014 and, since then, have worked in a variety of roles within mental health services.


I joined Barchester in May 2025 to explore social care and bring my skills and knowledge to contribute to the care of residents and support my colleagues in their roles.
