Somerset House Care & Nursing Home

mum has been in Somerset House since June 2026 and she loves living there, everything about the home is excellent. the staff are so kind and caring, the food is lovely and the home is so clean and comfortable. on behalf of myself and the family we feel so lucky to have found such a wonderful home for mum, I would certainly recommend Somerset House to anyone else looking for a nursing home for their loved ones.

I would have been very happy for my wife to stay permanently, but unfortunately the home are unable to care for her needs on a permanent basis due to her difficult behaviour due to her advanced dementia.

My 99 year old mother lives in Somerset House in York. She moved there in March 2026 from Surrey. I had looked at several care home and was very disappointed in them. It was such a relief to find Somerset House. I knew straight away I had found a caring home with friendly and professional staff. The building is kept beautifully and she has a lovely fresh bedroom with other excellent facilities. I can highly recommend.

I think the home is doing a good job for the residents. Most residents seem happy and the staff are doing an excellent job. From what I have seen it seems like a very nice home to be in.

I highly recommend Somerset House in Wheldrake. I am particularly impressed with the nursing care and support of my mam. Anytime my mam has had any medical issues, the home is right on it and always calls me to let me know what is going on. The home has been recently refurbished. The rooms are beautiful, as is the common areas. It has made a big difference to mams quality of life and gives me peace of mind. The staff are all wonderful and mam, and I are very grateful for all the love and support.

I am informed of what's happening and involved in decision making.

We, as a family are more than happy with Somerset House and would recommend it to anyone looking for a care home.

Somerset Care Home is a fantastic place, and I feel privileged knowing that my mum is so well cared for. All the staff are always pleasant and very welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble, and I know that I can leave her without any worries.

My father has been at Somerset House Care & Nursing Home for several months, and the care has been great. The staff are kind, patient, and genuinely caring, always going the extra mile to make him comfortable and keep us informed.

The home is warm, clean, and welcoming, even though there are on going improvements, with engaging activities that help residents stay active and happy. The nursing care is good - attentive, professional, and reassuring. It's clear the team truly care about every resident.

open and welcoming each time I visit. They are interested in each of the residents and ask great questions to find the best ways of supporting people.... they even made welsh cakes for my mother on discovering she was welsh and liked them... huge thank you for that.

Whilst there are areas of Somerset which might look a little tired, they are going through a huge programme of updating. My mums room is one of the new ones and it is fabulous, light and airy with an en suite bathroom which is perfect for her needs.

They have been very supportive of my mum, as it has taken a while for her to settle in the new environment and they understand the needs and challenges of people with dementia.

We would like to say how great full we are for the care and support all the staff provide at Somerset Nursing Care home for our 98 yr old Mum/Gran. She is happy, she always looks lovely when we visit, The food always looks lovely, the staff provide a wide range of activities for the residents. The staff always welcome us and make us feel relaxed. The staff are also very professional towards both the residents and visitors. It's always a pleasure to visit Mum at this nursing home.

We found throughout his short stay that the patience, kindness, cheerfulness and general helpfulness of all the staff were exemplary.

My mother, who will shortly celebrate her 96th birthday, receives all-round excellent care at Somerset House. She is especially fond of the many activities and external visits provided by the staff at the home.

Whenever we visit the staff are very pleasant and helpful, always offering us drinks. The home is always clean and the bedrooms are very clean, tidy and have beautiful furniture. The lady I go and visit is 93 and is very well looked after and is very happy in Somerset House.

My brother-in-law has been a resident of Somerset House for 18 months. I have been impressed with the management and staff who are friendly but also professional. The housekeeping is good and the food is appreciated by my brother-in-law. His clothes are laundered daily. Whilst he was very independent and reluctant to leave his house he appreciates the quality of care he receives. My wife is kept fully informed by the care home staff.

The staff at Somerset House provide a consistent, very caring and attentive quality to the home. One of it's many strengths is that there is not a high turnover of personnel and the home does not use bank staff, this ensures that care is personalised and faces are familiar which is so important, both to residents and relatives.
