I highly recommend Somerset House in Wheldrake. I am particularly impressed with the nursing care and support of my mam. Anytime my mam has had any medical issues, the home is right on it and always calls me to let me know what is going on. The home has been recently refurbished. The rooms are beautiful,
as is the common areas. It has made a big difference to mams quality of life and gives me peace of mind. The staff are all wonderful and mam, and I are very grateful for all the love and support.

The Care and Nursing Home is absolutely beautiful- like walking into a 5 star hotel.
Every single member of staff is so pleasant, friendly and kind. My father is bed bound so interacting with dedicated and kind staff is so important.
Can't speak highly enough of the service provided to the residents
and their families.
I am informed of what's happening and involved in decision making.

My Auntie has been in Somerset House since August 2025.
From the first visit to look round we got a calm, relaxed and friendly feel for the home.
Everyone we came across acknowledged us.
Auntie, although a big and fairly quick change for her, settled well into her beautiful, light, airy room.
Despite undergoing
a major refurbishment the staff always seem to take it in their stride and now, with the work all finished , the home is now up to date ,with beautiful lounges and everywhere is clean and decorated to a high standard.
On visiting my Auntie, on average every two weeks, we have found every member of staff, kind, caring and friendly towards all the residents and visitors.
They always have time for a chat, nothing is too much trouble and there is always someone close by if needed.
My Auntie is clean, safe and well looked after .
We, as a family are more than happy with Somerset House and would recommend it to anyone looking for a care home.

Mum moved into Somerset house in September 2024, from the moment we walked through the door, before the alterations and modernisations, we knew it was the place for mum. It is homely, the staff are caring and professional and always keep us updated with changes in mums health. Everyone goes above and
beyond from care staff to chefs, cleaners and management. We could not not wish for better care for our mum

My father has been at Somerset House Care & Nursing Home for several months, and the care has been great. The staff are kind, patient, and genuinely caring, always going the extra mile to make him comfortable and keep us informed.

The home is warm, clean, and welcoming, even though there are on

going improvements, with engaging activities that help residents stay active and happy. The nursing care is good - attentive, professional, and reassuring. It's clear the team truly care about every resident.

I'm deeply grateful for the compassion and dedication they show every day. Somerset House really does feel like a home for both residents and their families.

The staff at Somerset are a caring, kind and an attentive top down team. They are friendly,
open and welcoming each time I visit. They are interested in each of the residents and ask great questions to find the best ways of supporting people.... they even made welsh cakes for my mother on discovering
she was welsh and liked them... huge thank you for that.

Whilst there are areas of Somerset which might look a little tired, they are going through a huge programme of updating. My mums room is one of the new ones and it is fabulous, light and airy with an en suite bathroom which is perfect for her needs.

They have been very supportive of my mum, as it has taken a while for her to settle in the new environment and they understand the needs and challenges of people with dementia.

Thank you for all that you have done

My brother-in-law has been a resident of Somerset House for 18 months. I have been impressed with the management and staff who are friendly but also professional. The housekeeping is good and the food is appreciated by my brother-in-law. His clothes are laundered daily. Whilst he was very independent
and reluctant to leave his house he appreciates the quality of care he receives. My wife is kept fully informed by the care home staff.

The staff at Somerset House provide a consistent, very caring and attentive quality to the home. One of it's many strengths is that there is not a high turnover of personnel and the home does not use bank staff, this ensures that care is personalised and faces are familiar which is so important, both
to residents and relatives.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.662)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.662) out of 10 for Somerset House Care & Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.837 for Somerset House Care & Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (131 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 153 Ratings = 4.837
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Somerset House Care & Nursing Home is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
