My father was a resident receiving end of life care. He lasted 9-months and was happy and comfortable. The staff were very kind and caring. Over the months, they kept us updated on Dad and didn't seem to mind how many times we called. It made it easier for us, as we lived in London and due to lockdown,
made it difficult. We did manage to visit Dad a few times but not at the end as lockdown had started again. Thank you all for your help and care and for making Dads last moments as comfortable as he could be. Somerset House, you did a good job. A special thank you to those at the reception.

My mother and step father are both residents at Somerset House and I have been very pleased with the care and kindness they have received from the lovely staff. All the high standard meals are cooked on site with a good of choice available. I have been pleased with the activities that are provided to
cover all abilities and the nice gardens where the residents are taken when the weather permits. I would recommend this well run home.

A lovely home with a nice group of staff who are kind and caring. My mother is well cared for and staff go out of their way to make sure she is comfortable and content. Management are approachable and I see a varied range of activities, even though my mother doesn't like to join in, it is good to know
the option is there for her. As a nurse myself, I am impressed with the level of physical care delivered even if sometimes my mum has to wait a little. I am always kept updated in her care and informed of issues.

My mother-in-law is well cared for and well respected. Staff relate very well to her and I feel they know her preferences, skills and her needs. The catering is very good and there is plenty of choice of home cooked food. Management are approachable and respond to suggestions and requests. There is
a lovely atmosphere and many of my mother-in-law's visitors have commented on the friendly welcome they get.

I visited a friend in the home last year. I was very impressed by the welcome I received from the staff on my arrival. My friend's room was lovely, and she seemed extremely content.
The facilities were better than I expected. The food was of a very good standard. I think that if my circumstances were
to change, and I could not take care of myself, then I would certainly apply for residency.

Currently, the care home is going through many changes including a change to management and staff. Hopefully for the better in some ways. My grandma is happy there but I am never 100% happy with all care, always have to keep checking e.g. my gran always has really dirty hands so hygiene care is always
questionable. She is rarely taken out or any activities going on to keep her mood happy. Care staff try their best to get things right but a number of times they are understaffed (this has started to improve I think).

The home is spotlessly clean. Since my mother entered the home, she has been treated with nothing but kindness and considerate. The staff and facilities are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.570)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.570) out of 10 for Somerset House Care & Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.670 for Somerset House Care & Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.67

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Somerset House Care & Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
