We are so sorry that the family member had a bad experience at the outset of the resident joining us. Following changes to the condition and support needed, our assessments were updated to reflect these changes in the resident’s needs. As a result the room allocated was deemed unsuitable to ensure the care delivery is
provided in a safely. The resident's next of kin was consulted but unfortunately, whilst staff made all attempts to contact, other family members were not advised and this has resulted in this issue. The home manager has since met with the family of the
resident who have now accepted that a suitable room was provided with positive outcomes. The safety and wellbeing of our residents always remain a high priority.
We acknowledge specific issues around the perceived care in this instance. Whilst we are unable to comment on a specific police matter needless to say we had referred this matter to all external agencies concerned. Far from not taking any responsibility we have already acted and continue to do so. The complex care needs of the Resident concerned were and always would be our main priority and were so in these instances. Clearly we are disappointed in the perception of care by this family but, at the same time, are grateful that there is recognition that many care staff go above and beyond as they do. It is very understandable to us that when there are issues that families feel are not being addressed then they seek to lay blame somewhere. The management of the home is robust and continues to be so.
We are sad to read such a review as clearly as far as this family were concerned we did not get things right. We would add that we did work hard to meet their expectations and whilst the Resident herself was very happy with her care the family were not. Our staff worked hard to act in a way the family wanted but again, they were unable to satisfy them. It was clear that we would not be unable to meet their expectations and it was the right thing for the resident to move to a new provider. Proper notice of 3 months was provided and indeed a place was found before the notice period was up and we accepted that. We are delighted that the resident has settled in and all appears to be fine and we wish them all well in these troubled times.
