I have found Briaredene to be a friendly and hospitable place while visiting. My mother always looks clean and tidy, as well as her room. I like the fact that we can help ourselves to tea and coffee. Overall, very happy with my mother's care.

Overall my visit was satisfactory, everyone I was in contact with were very friendly and helpful, and the care home was clean, tidy, odour-free, and very festive with the Christmas tree all lit up and decorated.

After 11 weeks in hospital, my dad was transferred to Briardeme.
Although he is not always happy, his care has been excellent. The nurses know him, as do all of the carers.
As a family, we know he is in the best place to have all of his needs met.

Our mother has been in Briardene since September 2022. In often very challenging and distressing situations, the team of carers has been kind, compassionate and skilled in dealing with presentation. The staff team seem to be consistent and stable, which has allowed us and our mother to get to know people,
which has been a great help. The environment is good and the garden is lovely. We have been very happy and relieved to have our mam at Briardene.

My experience when visiting my dearest friend has always been such that all staff have been very pleasant and most helpful. Always smiling and eager to go the extra mile. Comfortable rooms and spotlessly clean, generally a very well-run establishment. I'm happy that my friend is in a happy place.

My mum has lived at Briardene Care Home for thirteen years. She has always said it is "home from home". However, lately, things have changed since a new manager took over.
Many core staff have left and new staff are lovely but seem stressed and overworked, not enough cover for every shift. Briardene
needs to get back its friendly, family atmosphere where everyone is valued, staff, residents and families/friends and once again becomes 2home from home" (with help from upper management and us all).

We are delighted with my husband's care. The one area of improvement is on his personal care.
I would ask the carers to think about how they would like to look. They are busy and kind but don't always comb his hair, wash his face or wipe away food as well as they might.
Training required on hearing
aids - please open the battery slot at night or the batteries drain.

Greeted and spoken to nicely on arrival. Spoke with nurse at length about my mother's well-being. Very informative and caring attitude. Mother's room not very clean and an unpleasant smell. All staff lovely and very kind.

My mam's wedding ring has still not been found. The rooms are clean and tidy. The turnover of staff seems to be high. Lots of Mam's possessions go missing. Not enough information on social media-other Mariposa homes post things regularly on social media! No activities for residents.

My mum has now been in Briardene for almost four years. She now thinks of the staff as family, as they are so supportive and obviously caring. Throughout the pandemic, the care has been amazing and although it was difficult not having visits ( i used to visit daily), I knew that the practices in place
were required and she was well looked after.

My Mum was in Briardene from March 2020 until she passed away in December 2021. She was well looked after, the staff treated her with dignity, care, and most of all Love. When you walk along the corridor and and hear all the staff singing Happy Birthday to a resident, you can't help but smile. The management
are caring and understanding. In my Mum's last week of her end of life, we were fully kept up to date when we weren't there with her. I certainly recommend Briardene, and can't thank the staff enough for how well they looked after my Mum.
Reply from Marrissa Jewitt, Home Manager at Briardene Care HomeAll this is so lovely to read and I have shared this with our team. My mum left leaving her own home, feeling vulnerable, scared and confused. The whole team did everything for my mum from caring, communication, medicating, telling stories but mostly, the love and reassurance and time they give. My mum got Covid last year and spent time away in hospital where, as a
family, we were told by doctors she had up to 72 hours to live. My mum beat it though and came back to Briardene to her home and extended family. I was lucky enough to visit in July of 2020, in the gardens and then again on the Monday before Christmas. I can’t tell you how it cheered me up and gave me confidence in seeing my mum look so well and happy. So thank you for everything you do, everything minute of the day. My mum is a very special lady who herself, was a nurse and then went on to foster children. We still all need her and with all the love and fun things you do with her, my mum continues to smile and laugh.

Mam was a resident at Briardene for 17 months and during this time was well looked after. Briardene has some truly exceptional, kind and caring staff that work there. From those that sang to Mam and encouraged her to sing along with them. Those that could bring a smile to her face and those that even
brought in their own dog to show to Mam. Staff were always keen to work with us to try and ensure that Mam had food and drink that she liked. Everyone worked hard to ensure that Mam was well looked after and cared for. Both my sister and I are extremely grateful to all of the staff at Briardene. Thank you so much.

I would like to express how disappointed I was with being unable to talk to my father. I telephoned on a very regular basis and was rarely able to talk to him as I would be told "it is not convenient". I would be told to ring back later and was still unable to talk to him. Latterly the 'phone would
ring and ring, eventually being picked up and immediately cut off. I found this to be completely unacceptable. His room was never as clean as it should have been, given the high risk of infection to the elderly and infirm. The food provided was often inedible. Rarely was fresh fruit or vegetables given and more often than not spaghetti hoops, baked beans or something equally unappetising given. Food should surely be nutritional and freshly cooked, homemade meals to encourage those with little appetite. Had there been an opportunity to move my father, I think this would definitely have happened.

Dad went into the care home from hospital for a valuation but it was quickly apparent he was unlikely to improve. From the day he arrived to his passing, the standard of care, dignity and professionalism demonstrated was first class given the challenges of covid. My sisiter and I would like to show
our sincere gratitude for the support given to us in order to see him through his final days. Particular praise to the deputy care manager and her team. It won't ever be forgotten.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.814)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.814) out of 10 for Briardene Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.864 for Briardene Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (197 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 220 Ratings = 4.864
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Briardene Care Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
