Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
My mum moved into the Memory care unit of Sovereign Lodge in Sept 2022 and stayed there until her death in July 2024. The staff were endlessly patient and positive in the face of her initial distress, and she gained strength and mobility under their care.
My dad or I visited mum every day and only
ever heard every member of staff being really kind to the residents. From the care staff to the housekeeper, launderers, cleaners, handyman, hairdresser, they all talked to mum and us and helped whenever they could. Mum's clothes were beautifully kept and she was also carefully dressed, showered and hair done, which made a huge difference to my dad too. When she received a terminal cancer diagnosis, they welcomed her back and cared for her so lovingly until her death, for which we will forever be grateful. The close links with the GP surgery (weekly visits and responsive to concerns) were invaluable.
Dementia is horrific but the staff at SL helped ease the pain for mum and all our family.

The Old Prebendal House

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
What a revelation to myself and siblings. We have tried two residential homes prior to The Old Prebendal, and they both let our mother down badly in terms of not living up to promises made in the glossy brochures. We feel we have finally hit the jackpot in terms of an amazingly beautiful place, which
feels more like a 5 star retreat than a residential home. The care levels are excellent, the residents are all well matched and there is none of the shouting and aggression from previous dementia care homes. It is a gentle, kind and well thought out place, that runs like clockwork under the guidance of an excellent Home Manager. All make it appear a seamless and effortless experience, but we all appreciate the hard work and organisation that goes into making it appear so. My mother is a kind and gentle soul, and we now feel we have found her a place that matches those qualities. It is an amazing place, with good facilities, and the correct staffing levels and knowledge. 10/10 from us.

My mum-in-law came to Derwent Care Home after damage to her home. She was welcomed by staff and her room was lovely. The home itself is lovely, light and comfortable with different areas for residents. She was encouraged to attend events in the home but staff always respected her choices. While the
home is lovely it's the staff who make it special, friendly, caring, very helpful and cheerful. As a relative you feel the staff like their jobs and the people they look after, which gives relatives peace of mind.

Kingston court needs to up its standards to justify the cost.
Clothes going missing, personal items missing, the staff can only do so much but they are so understaffed it's ridiculous. They are taking care of the residents but it's just basic care due to lack of personnel on the floor. The food provided
is basic, and management haven't a clue as to what's going on in the home.

Initial visit, appeared to be good, reality proved different - all aspects of care were poor
Food was invariably served cold and dad was unable to identify what he was eating - for example a grey cold splodge was supposedly mince.
You lost his clothes and left him to sit in boxer shorts.
His room
was dirty and suffocatingly hot.
His dressings were not changed in the 5 days he was in the home.
One male carer was particularly rough. One carer had to be spoken to by dad in her own language, as her grasp of English was so poor. The final day dad was there you gave him no pain relief whatsoever as the home had run out of paracetamol, a basic medication!
You lied about changing his catheter - it didn't happen. Dad's Controlled Drugs were not sent on to his new home and I had to travel back to collect them with no appropriate control. Dad, on leaving said of the home "Good Riddance" - he never swears but a heartfelt opinion of your poor care. I would NEVER recommend sending a relative here.
