I am very pleased with the level of care given to each individual resident by all members of staff, with the helpfulness of all staff, with the cleanliness of bedrooms and bathrooms, with the quality of food provided, and with the level of medical attention given.

She was very agile, sporting be this experience so this probably accounts for her wanting to get out of chair etc.

The amount of time given to my friend was exceptional. Whatever any member of staff was in the middle of doing, they would immediately fulfil any request made by my friend. For example one member of staff willingly accepted the request to give me a quick tour. My friend said he felt buoyant and well. His room was pleasant, large and comfortable. There was lots of public space as well, so that there was no sense of being shoved into a particular place because it was convenient for the staff. This impression was based on a 90 minute visit but smiling residents say much. I am asked below to assess the food. I don't know, but that is not an answer allowed by the questionnaire. In fact my answers below have been made with very little evidence. It is the general impression which really gains the five stars.

They need a proper manager who sit down with the relatives and explain things and get details. This never happened.

The staff are always pleasant and caring while doing a very demanding job at times.

I have lived here a few weeks and I love my room it is very spacious with a nice view. The meals are very nice. The coffee shop is lovely to sit to have a drink with my family

Over the last few months I have noticed an increase in a range of activities available to residents. It is brilliant that there are now two activity workers focusing on providing activities both group based and individualised. I am hoping that this remains the situation from now on

My partner came to the Prebendal for respite care, I and his daughters were delighted with the 'courtesy' & friendliness of the staff, who welcomed us. The care & support he received from all the people there who looked after him was exemplary. The surroundings are a delight, and a wonderful sense of peace is marvellous for the residents. The food was delicious, beautifully served. There were plentiful light refreshments available. I recommend this care home without reservation.

My mam was admitted to the care home on 5 June 2026 after a period in hospital following a stroke. Her stay was short as she unfortunately died on 30 June 2026. I cannot say this enough - her care while in the home was amazing. Me and my family are truly thankful for this and cannot recommend Holly Lodge enough.

My brother in law Brian is in safe hands with lovely staff looking after him. He says that the food is excellent and his room is very comfortable The system for checking in and out is efficient and straightforward

Lovely care home and lovely staff, friendly and helpful they treat my mother-in-law with the upmost dignity and care, she can be difficult at times but the staff take that in their stride and it is very reassuring that she is looked after so well.

My mother was recently in Derwent for respite care, initially we were very weary about the whole process but the brilliant staff at Derwent couldn't have made the transition any smoother, they were very supportive and couldn't do enough for us as a family. The care my mam received was exceptional, the home itself is lovely, very clean and welcoming. There was always plenty of activities taking place. As a family we can't thank the staff at Derwent enough, we will definitely be returning to Derwent for any future respite care.

Everything about the Old Prebendal House has been superb. Friendly, efficient and very accommodating staff, beautiful, calm and restful spaces which are immaculately maintained, and the garden is a treasure. The food has been really delicious, with great choices. We were made to feel so welcome as a family, and while the staff are extremely attentive, they are very unobtrusive so we felt quite at home and able to relax with our father/husband during his stay.

Staff were friendly and make a big effort to get to know my Nana and as a family we appreciated it.

My husband went into Briardene on 18th may he was there for 4 nights, it was supposed to be 2 weeks but I cut short his stay as he was put on the first floor (the manageress had went by the information given by social worker from the hospital) it was not the floor my husband should have been on. Yes he has Parkinsons and dementia but he does not present the way the residents on that floor do. If he had went on the ground floor I may have let him stay. Having said all that I do think I would choose Briardene again for respite.

The staff and care were absolutely brilliant. Such a friendly team, wonderful location with a lovely garden and conservatory. We couldn't fault his care and wish he'd have stayed permanently. Even he was raving over the care and the wonderful food!! Unfortunately he just missed his home and privacy but would not hesitate to visit again should the need arise. Thank you so much St Luke's!

A close relative has been a resident for two years. We have noticed a significant improvement in the atmosphere of the home over the last year. There seem to be more activities for residents and the home seems to be more welcoming and cheerful, with improved decorations and updated photographs of residents. We would like to thank the staff for their kindness to us and our relative.

Lovely home. Very homely. The staff are great, nothing is a bother. My room has amazing views of Derwent Valley. The care I get is outstanding. Thank you care staff.

Lovely place to live. Atmosphere lovely. I have made so many friends here. The meals are lovely. Staff are really good and helpful.
