Dene Park House Care Home is located in Newcastle upon Tyne, close to the Metro Centre.

Staff are always keen to make a good impression, so visitors to Dene Park are welcomed with a smile and offered ‘a cuppa’, whatever the reason for their visit. This is particularly important if they are looking for a care home for their loved ones – often a traumatic time for a family. Visitors are usually shown around the home and introduced to care staff, the residents and, when appropriate, their families.

Residents have lots of things going on, inside and outside of the home. There are arts and crafts sessions, a knitting club and a resident forum. A local dance class comes in, as well as a theatre group which puts on pantomimes. There are regular visits from singers, and residents often join in. The home is next door to The Victory pub, which can be used regularly by residents if they desire. There is also a bar at the home where residents can enjoy a drink with their visitors.

Residents can get involved in the running of the home, with some residents helping to lay the tables for meals and others helping to hoover.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
When I was told to find a care home with 24 hour nursing care for my Mum I visited the homes on the list with heavy heart. After visiting Dene Park I was impressed how light, airy, spacious and well organised it was and the residents seemed happy. I made the decision as this was the best I had seen.
Now a month on I am so happy to say it was a good decision. The Manager is so helpful, will answer any questions and has given me good advice. The staff (all of them) extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble, they are all very caring and so cheerful. I feel as if they are friends there for me as well as my Mum.
The food is excellent and Mum was told if there was anything she fancied she just has to ask.
The list of activities is good - all encouraged to join in for fun events, including movie shows on the big screen.
Mum is happy and says the staff are so kind.
I would thoroughly recommend this home. I know my Mum is safe and cared for.

Sadly my uncle was only here for under two weeks, but the standard of care was excellent. The home itself is clean with a lovely warm homely feeling and although my uncle was past the point of eating the food looked very good. All the staff were brilliant, very patient, very friendly and very caring,
they not only looked after my uncle, but took great care in looking after myself and my mam. Could not recommend this place enough.

My mother is extremely well cared for in Dene Park and the carers are very approachable and easy to talk to. Everything is done to make your relative feel comfortable and safe. I have confidence in Dene Park and believe this to be the best care home for my mother.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.945) out of 10 for Dene Park House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.659 for Dene Park House is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (26 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.659
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.286 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Dene Park House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 51 registered maximum number of service users is 10.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.2 = 0.686
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
