I submitted a glowing review of Kenton Manor in May 2023. At that time, there was an amazing Deputy Manager in place who, along with other members of staff over the fifteen months that my friend resided there, suddenly disappeared.
Standards in the home declined and when, in January 2024, the CQC made an unannounced inspection, I was not surprised. The subsequent CQC report downgraded the home to 'Requires Improvement'. I requested a meeting for all residents' families with the management team. This was held on 25 April and a report from the Operations Manager, received on 5 June, laid out the improvements made. When my friend died on 23 June 2024, it was clear over the preceding weeks, that little or nothing had been done.

The home now recruits staff worldwide through sponsorship contracts, but they clearly have no experience of the care sector/the elderly, relevant training or qualifications. Sadly, I cannot recommend this home nor have faith in those who operate and manage it.

My husband went into Kenton Manor in March 2023 with dementia. Since being in Kenton Manor, he has received good care and attention. He found it difficult at first to settle, but with the help of the staff, he is fine now. He has a very nice room and plenty of food and drinks. The activities could be a bit better, but he seems to join in anything going.

My mam was admitted to Kenton Manor in February 2023 and sadly passed away in April 2023. The family were so pleased that she received excellent care and support during this time. She had a lovely room which we were able to personalise, which was really important for her and us. We knew my mam was happy and content in her time there and we will forever be grateful to the staff

The resident is my cousin.
Based on comments on outstanding management. Initially, my cousin was on the top floor for one month and the same comments apply.
Care staff appear well trained, and the cleaners and laundry are excellent.
Last 20 years my cousin has been in 3 care homes and they couldn't compare to your high standards.

Thank you.

Mam has responded well in Kenton Manor. She is eating and drinking well and is always clean and tidy. She responds positively to the staff and is always happy to see them when I have visited. The staff are very friendly and helpful and obviously care for Mam very well. Our family have all made similar positive comments and are greatly relieved to know Mam is in such excellent hands.

I have been extremely happy with the care that my dad has received since moving into the home in January of this year. My dad has been poorly on a few occasions but the staff have been great, getting a GP to visit my dad and keeping me informed of what was happening with his care. Now that Covid restrictions are more relaxed, the home has put on a few lovely activities for the residents including an enjoyable Jubilee Party in Kenton Manor’s well-kept garden. The beautiful garden was a major reason why I picked Kenton Manor over other homes. I would definitely recommend Kenton Manor.

Today I visited my nanna for the first time, I was very nervous as I wasn't sure what to do but once I met the lovely staff they put me at ease. A lovely welcome and Easter celebrations with the residents, as well as Easter bonnets. My nanna's room was spotless and it had all her favourite pictures up.

My aunt seven months ago lived independently and drove her car and did her shopping with just my sister helping her carry it to her car. Her memory was starting to fail and Alzheimer's was diagnosed. She later had a funny turn, as she called it, and vascular dementia was diagnosed. She deteriorated rapidly had a fall at home and ended in hospital. After a catalogue of poor care, I brought her to Newcastle and placed her in a care home, very close to me that, I myself had worked in as an agency nurse; I knew the quality of care. I knew that they where never dragging her out of bed at 6am to be up for the day staff. I knew she would be looked after. My aunty last year had no idea who I was, prior to admission she stopped eating and drinking and lost her will to live. After moving to Kenton Manor she has started eating, drinking and now when I visit she recognises me and greets me with a smile. Thank you for bringing her back! This home actually cares.

From my gran being placed in the care of Kenton Manor there has been one thing after another.
The amount of times I have had to comment about my gran's poor hygiene as she uses her fingers to eat, so that is very important. My gran wearing other people's clothing even though name tags were bought.
Care staff not knowing the basic procedures of their job (the worst one was the tipping of my gran's wheelchair with the handles). The latest was the back garden gate propped open with a rock so anyone could enter or leave. I was told no paperwork for visiting or covid results were needed and I haven't filled any out in two weeks now. I was also told on one visit I had to provide my own. I could go on and on.

The lies that go on in that place to cover up mistakes are amazing and every time I complain my visits go down. The change in my gran in a year is heartbreaking as it is most definitely not a good change. If you are looking for a new home for any loved one I would most definitely not recommend it.

Kenton Manor is a unique home. It is flexible and relaxed. The residents have choice and support. All-day long residents are free to roam and interact.

Kenton Manor may not tick all the bureaucratic boxes but it works so well for residents and relatives. As a relative, I can visit any time and feel well supported by intelligent and empathetic staff.

My mum and dad were very happy here. The staff and management were excellent, treating my parents with dignity and care at all times. The staff took time to engage with my parents whilst carring out their duties. They both ate and slept well and were very contented whilst staying here.
