The staff work really hard to make sure the residents are comfortable and safe and if there are issues and requests. They work well with residents and their family members to re-address them. There are plenty of drinks offered and lots of activities organised for the more abled residents. The home is willing to hear the thoughts of residents families in order to make decisions that will benefit everyone.

Never seen the home better. They're going from strength to strength. The manager is excellent and has the staff motivated to work to standards I've never seen before. The staff are caring and respectful. The lounge is spacious and always supervised. The activities coordinators (yes, two of them) are truly wonderful with the residents. You can see the effort being made and most importantly of all, my mam, and the other residents, seem happy.

My dad has been in this home 3 years. I've had lots of complaints and concerns over time and thought about taking him out of this home but there is now a new manager and there has been a huge improvement and if I have any problems with dads care it gets sorted quickly. There is still a few areas that still need sorting like laundry and I would like dads room to be decorated but hope these are things that will get done.

My sister-in-law came to the home after a short stay in hospital. She settled well, staff made all of us welcome, and continue to do so. Her daughter lives in the USA and staff are accommodating eg. billing, 'phone. I visit 3 times a week and see a continue of care, and not just with my relative. Lots of varied activities take place - from flower arrangements to a magician, to a visit by a wildlife rescue centre. Home is bright and full of photos and items to help memory. TV is NOT always on. No-one is rushing, so calm atmosphere (as much as possible with the range of dementia). Drinks regularly offered, food varied and tasty. Staff available to discuss concerns. Lovely garden.

I have been visiting my Gran for more than 3 years in Appleby and I have never seen the place as good as it is now. There are plenty carers around now and they treat residents with respect and never rush people. They are really good at what they do. The home is really pleasant now and has a homely atmosphere and the new garden is absolutely fantastic. A waterfall, wooden animal carvings, lots of seating and even a beach area with lobster pots and a rowing boat! Thanks from me, my mam and my Gran.

Welcome to Appleby Care Home in North Shields.

We provide care of the highest quality for the elderly on a permanent or respite basis, in lovely comfortable surroundings. Our team of experienced care professionals constantly undergo training to provide outstanding care and support to all of our residents.

There are two units within Appleby Care Home. The ground floor and part of the upper floor make up the mixed dementia unit. There is also a specialist male-only service on the upper floor for male service users who may have behaviours that are challenging.

We also offer care for convalescence, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, palliative care, and dementia.

Appleby offers a safe and secure environment promoting independence and well-being. There are a number of care packages available offering long and short-term care including nursing.

Each room has en-suite facilities and the home has a number of communal rooms. We have a large garden and patio for residents to sit outside in the warmer months and help with planting flowers and plants. We also have a pond and ducks often visit the home.

The focal point of the garden is a large summer house which is used as an Ice cream parlour in the summer and as Santa’s Grotto in the run-up to Christmas.

Our on-site activities coordinator develops a monthly programme with the needs and capabilities of the residents in mind, ensuring that there is always something exciting to do at Appleby. We also have a minibus to take our residents on outings in the local area.

Our philosophy is simple; we want everyone to enjoy life to the fullest. We never forget that all our residents are individuals and we treat them with dignity, privacy and respect while offering freedom of choice and as much independence as possible.

The team at Appleby are compassionate and caring and goes beyond the call of duty with all residents.

I’d love to show you around the home. If you would like a tour or wish to discuss any aspect of elderly care with me, please telephone the home to make an appointment.
