Our mother, aged 89, was admitted to Read House following weeks in hospital.
As soon as she arrived through the door, the general manager and care manager rolled up their sleeves and attended to every aspect of our mother's physical and psychological needs in her new environment. Without exception,
all of the staff are conscientious, professional, caring and diligent, delivering care with smiles and good humour.
Reply from The Manager, Home Manager at Read HouseThank you so much for taking the time to share this wonderful feedback. We are delighted to hear that your mother felt supported from the moment she arrived, especially after her time in hospital.

Our managers, and the whole team will be truly encouraged by your kind words. They work hard to provide compassionate, attentive care, and it means a great deal to know this has made a positive difference to your mother's comfort and wellbeing.

We really appreciate your trust in us and your recognition of the team's dedication.

Read House

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My great aunt recently celebrated her 100th birthday together with family and friends. There were 28 of us in total, so it was quite a large gathering. The staff at Read House helped us organise the event by sectioning off half of the dining area and decorating it beautifully for the occasion. They
provided delicious sandwiches - the food is excellent - and made sure everyone was very well looked after throughout the afternoon. We are all extremely grateful that we were able to use the facilities at Read House to celebrate such a special milestone with her.

In general, my great aunt receives very good round-the-clock care. Many of the staff take the time to sit and talk with her, sharing stories and conversations, which means a great deal to her. In recent years, she has understandably struggled at times with reduced mobility and the sadness of losing many close friends and family members. Human connection, kindness and companionship therefore really matter.

Reply from Helen Spurgeon, Home Manager at Read HouseThank you so much for taking the time to share such a heartfelt review of your great aunt's experience at our home. It means a great deal to our whole team to know that her 100th birthday celebration was such a special and memorable occasion for your family. We were delighted to help you host the gathering, and we're glad the decorations, food and service helped make the day feel truly worthy of such an incredible milestone.
We are especially grateful for your kind words about the care she receives day to day. Our staff take great pride in offering not only practical support but also genuine companionship, conversation and human connection - the things that matter most, particularly when mobility changes and loved ones are no longer close by. Knowing that this brings comfort to your great aunt, and to your family, is deeply appreciated.
Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback and for trusting us with her care.

Since my wife was admitted in October 2025 after a nine-week hospital stay, the care and attention have been excellent. It could not be faulted. My wife was hardly eating while in hospital, but arriving here, the food is greatly improved and she mostly enjoys it. The staff here should be praised for
all the hard work they do, especially the care and nursing staff. Thank you.

My 97 year-old mother urgently needed a residential nursing home and we were so lucky that a room became available. She spent ten days at Bryony Park where she received wonderful care. All of the staff were kind and thoughtful and they did everything they could to make her comfortable. Nothing was too
much trouble for them. Staff took time to talk to family members to find out about our mother's life, her likes and dislikes. It was reassuring to know that when we left at the end of each day she was in such good hands. Thank you!

My mum was a resident at this care home.
Some of the staff are likeable some not.
Cos some have sticky fingers.
When my mum passed some of her belongings what missing. When my sister and I went to get some of her belongings they was all put into a cupboard in black bags and we had to walk pass the
room she occupied when alive and it was already occupied it was up setting to see that and to see all her stuff in a cupboard that's when we noticed things was missing.
It was not until I put in a bad review I got them back will most of them.
My mums room was not that clean sometimes.
Food I don't know about.
Sometimes when I visited her she wasn't clean.
She smelled.
I had to ask them to give my mum a bath a few times. There is not enough staff for all the residents. Cos twice my mum was attacked by inmates there...
In this review I am telling the truth.
I think the owners should put more money into get more staff for the price they charge.
Over all care a 3 and a half star.

My parents were moved to 24-hour care together at Marigold and the team there are providing excellent care not only to them but also supporting the family through one of the most difficult things to face. All the team members are friendly and helpful, they all go above and beyond to provide the highest
standards of care for my parents who both have very different needs, nothing is too much for them. I would highly recommend a placement there and the confidence I now have about them being safe is priceless!
Reply from The Manager, Manager at Marigold Nursing HomeWe really appreciate the excellent feedback and we always strive to give a person centred approach to our care within Marigold. My mother has been a resident for nearly 7 months, and I have total faith that she is in very safe and caring hands. Mum went to Ashley Lodge for rehabilitation after a fall and a period in hospital. Her stay was extended and we could not have asked for better care or a more supportive team to look after her.
The staff did a wonderful job helping Mum regain her fitness and managing her nursing needs. The management
and nursing team were always responsive, informative, and willing to help and support us as a family.
The carers were consistently kind and professional ensuring Mum's needs were met and their cheerful and positive manner created a warm and secure environment for her. Her room was bright, airy, well decorated, and always very clean. The Ashley Lodge team also organised a roster of activities, encouraging Mum to join in and they made sure birthdays and festive celebrations like Christmas were marked and celebrated.
We can't thank the team enough for all their support and care throughout Mum's stay.

Originally (for respite for 2 weeks with dementia), after trying to take his own life, residential care was deemed essential. I am happy the management and staff treat him with care and dignity, due to his circumstances!
I feel, however, they are understaffed, with very little senior management in
attendance over the weekend period.
I do not feel that enough 'observation checks' on his well-being are observed regularly.

What can I say other than this home is exceptional, from the highest of standards to the care they all give their patients each and every day. It is second to none! Speaking from experience, having looked after my father only until recently, I never once doubted the commitment, care and dedication they
all give to their residents and each other. Your loved one will be well looked after. Think of it as part of your extended family, because that is what it felt like to us. Feel safe in the knowledge that they will be well cared for and treated with the love, dignity and respect they deserve. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
