My mother has been a resident for nearly 7 months, and I have total faith that she is in very safe and caring hands. The staff are very caring and well trained in dealing with dementia patients, which must be very challenging. Jean enjoys her meals, and the choice is very good indeed. I couldn't wish
for a nicer care home for my mother, and I am always made welcome by the staff when I visit.

Mum went to Ashley Lodge for rehabilitation after a fall and a period in hospital. Her stay was extended and we could not have asked for better care or a more supportive team to look after her.
The staff did a wonderful job helping Mum regain her fitness and managing her nursing needs. The management
and nursing team were always responsive, informative, and willing to help and support us as a family.
The carers were consistently kind and professional ensuring Mum's needs were met and their cheerful and positive manner created a warm and secure environment for her. Her room was bright, airy, well decorated, and always very clean. The Ashley Lodge team also organised a roster of activities, encouraging Mum to join in and they made sure birthdays and festive celebrations like Christmas were marked and celebrated.
We can't thank the team enough for all their support and care throughout Mum's stay.

Originally (for respite for 2 weeks with dementia), after trying to take his own life, residential care was deemed essential. I am happy the management and staff treat him with care and dignity, due to his circumstances!
I feel, however, they are understaffed, with very little senior management in
attendance over the weekend period.
I do not feel that enough 'observation checks' on his well-being are observed regularly.

I find the care i receive here is excellent, with all staff all doing there best to make life very comfortable, as they can. Nothing is to much trouble, i only need to ask. Its not only the carers that need praise, its all staff here, from cleaners, nurses, laundry, activities and kitchen staff. We
have a very good management team, who are very helpful.

Staff are always friendly and helpful. Home is clean, warm and safe. Management follow up any issues immediately.
Unfortunately mum does not like the food, so we take in meals, and she does not join in any activities.

Mum has been at Ashley Lodge for over a year now. On a recent visit, it was good to see how well Mum was responding to the various staff members who passed through her room. There was a strong sense of her being comfortable in their company.

In fact, there was a very happy and calm atmosphere throughout

the Home. Every member of staff we encountered was ready to help in any way possible - even when we didn't need it! As for the new menu, well, that is clearly a great success. Mum emptied her plate and later told me how good the food was there! So a very special thank you to head chef Julian and his lovely staff.

These results are only possible through the conscientious, professional and superb teamwork from everyone there working together towards the same goals and in the same enabling culture.

My cousin can be quite difficult and demanding at times - staff always treat her with respect and understanding. My cousin is prone to wandering but security is tight and I am not aware of her safety being compromised.
The phone is always answered promptly and staff are polite and helpful.

Mum moved into Ashley Lodge at the beginning of June on a permanent basis. Mum is very well looked after and is very happy there. The staff are all excellent and the manager is always available and very approachable.
The activities are a lovely part of the day and are varied and well run. The level
of care mum receives is excellent and nothing is too much trouble.
Initially I found it very difficult when mum went into the home but mum has settled in very quickly and within a very short space of time thinks of it as home.
Massive thanks to everybody.

The care given to my dad was excellent. From the 1st time we met with the Care Home manager to the end of his stay there. The staff were all extremely helpful and patient with my dad when he wasn't always co-operating fully or on his best behaviour. They also treated him with respect and in a friendly
manner which was much appreciated. It was good to see my dad smile when some of the staff came in to see him. We also noticed how frequently the staff checked in with dad while they were passing his room.

In addition, the staff were always very friendly and helpful to ourselves in such a difficult time for the family. The food, drinks and toiletries provided to us as we stayed with our dad were very much appreciated.

Thank you all for what you did for my dad whilst he was with you.

My mother is always telling the family how good the food is and how lovely the staff are. She is always clean and well dressed whenever we visit, and enjoys taking part in all the activities. All the staff know her by name, even the catering staff and receptionists. The entire home is well cared for,
and when you walk in, it puts you in mind of a hotel and not a care home. She loves the hair salon!

Mum spent close to 3 months at Ashley Lodge following a very difficult situation, and with various health issues. The staff immediately made us feel so welcome, and made sure all of Mum's needs were catered for, with a level of care and efficiency like I've never seen before. Medical and other needs
are seen to extremely quickly and with much care, which was a revelation, and such a relief to us.
Visiting Mum every day, at varying times was never a problem, and despite suffering badly with anxiety, I never felt anything but welcome and at ease. I can't recommend Ashley Lodge highly enough
A massive thanks to the Manager and Deputy Manager who moved mountains to help us through a very difficult time, and also to all of the staff who helped make Mum's stay safe and comfortable.

Nan was scared about going into a residential care home, but at the grand age of 96 when she entered here, she quickly began to like it. (Nan always liked Ashley Lodge, as another member of her family was here a few years ago and was treated very well before she passed.)The staff are lovely to her,
and she loves it when they chat and interact with her. She has made some nice friends to talk to, but also enjoys it when she has visitors, which she has most days from her Daughter and Son, down to her Grandchildren even her Great Granddaughter, and occasionally her Great Great Grandchildren.
Nan loves the food here, and if there's something she doesn't like, they quickly find her something else to eat.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.749)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.749) out of 10 for Ashley Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 36 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.749 for Ashley Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (316 Excellents x 5) + (80 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 407 Ratings = 4.749
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashley Lodge Care Home is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 77 registered maximum number of service users is 15.4, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I have worked in healthcare for over 12 years. I feel that you need to be so many things to be a care home manager but the most important thing you need is passion in everything you do for your residents and team.

I was born and raised in the village of Ashley so when the opportunity came up to make a difference to one of my local care homes, I grabbed it with both hands.

I’m a great believer in giving something back so spend a lot of time raising money for both local and national charities.

I love to take time to meet the new residents and find out about the food they like to eat, as I believe mealtimes are one of the most important times in our home.

My spare time is spent socialising and cooking for my friends and I also love to spend time at the beach.

Cathy

Cathy Harkus

Job Title: Care Assistant Joined: 2020

Cathy spent most of her working career in a high-powered corporate job in the motor trade industry. After moving to a new area, semi-retired, she took a part-time role in a local bar. During lockdown, she wasn’t working and saw a lot of adverts on TV about the care industry and really wanted to help her local community, so she applied to work as a Home Assistant in our lovely home. “I really wanted to give something back to my community and I haven’t looked back! From kitchen work to housekeeping – I’ve done a bit of everything to help and I’ve loved it! I previously visited a care home when one of my relatives was in care and I couldn’t wait to get out of the place, but I’ve never had that feeling at Ashley Lodge. I walked in and the home was clean and tidy, the residents were lovely, and the staff were just so welcoming.”

“I love having a chat with our residents when I can but being part of making a difference to their lives is my favourite thing about working here. A few weeks ago the kitchen team served mince pies at afternoon tea and one of our residents was so excited! He told me how much he loves them, so I spoke to the kitchen and got him some extra ones and his face just lit up, he was so happy! It’s the little things that can make a huge difference to their day and I go home happy knowing that I made that happen.”
