The Evergreens Care Centre is a recently refurbished, medium-sized, 43-bedded Care Home, located in the quiet residential area of Forest Hall, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

The ground floor, named by the residents at The Cypress Suite, has 17 bedrooms. It is senior carer-led and is dedicated to supporting those with residential care needs.

The first floor, named by the residents as Redwood, has 26 bedrooms. It is nurse-led and is dedicated to supporting those with both nursing and residential care needs.

The home delivers high standards of person-centred care for all residents and prides on working in partnership with residents and their families to ensure that life at The Evergreens is tailored to meet and wishes of the individual.

In March 2019, the CQC inspected The Evergreens and found the service to be Good in all areas.

Each room has en-suite facilities and the home has a number of communal rooms, including an activities room/salon, and a quiet room.

The large gardens offer ample outside space with seating areas for residents and families to enjoy during the summer months, or indeed at any time.

An activities coordinator is dedicated to the social engagement and personal fulfilment of the residents. There is a variety of social activity opportunities on both an individual and group level, and have a mini bus, which enables residents to get out and about and enjoy life outside of the care home environment.

The care and attention shown to my mother was the very best with compassion and respect.
The key praise goes to all of the staff that work at the home. They were like family to us and couldn't do enough for us as we were a big family and we were allowed to visit my mam at any time and spend our last
days with her. The home will never be forgotten for what they have done for my mam.

My mother went into this home and the staff were lovely. Her room had all just been done out. Unfortunately, she was only there a week before she passed away, but the care she was given was exceptional. The two young carers treated her with care, dignity and respect right to the very end. Thank you

This home has a very welcoming open atmosphere wherein our Mum has been extremely happy and settled, always seeming to feel safe and secure. The new staff truly know Mam's individual needs and preferences, making her feel valued. Under the recently changed management, we consider the home to have improved,
especially the continuity of their care and concern. Mam said recently "I couldn't be in a better place".

My wife’s sister is currently a resident and we are more than happy with the place. The staff are very friendly and my relative is well looked after. I would recommend the home to others looking for their loved ones to be looked after.
We are made welcome and nothing is to much trouble for the staff.

My grandma is a resident of Stephenson Court and although I can’t visit regularly due to the distance, I managed a visit recently. I was very pleased to see the work done to the home and noticed the standards of work were high.
My grandma loves living here and all the staff are so kind and caring towards
her. I know the home has had some difficulties in the past but with the changes of decor, management and staff I was more than happy. I was introduced to some new staff faces and was impressed with the lovely atmosphere around the place.
You all deserve a medal and I am most grateful to you all for making my grandma happy and well cared for.

I had a family friend in this home until recently and I honestly could not fault it.
The new management have been a breath of fresh air and the all the staff are so caring and friendly everytime I was in visiting. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone looking.

My mother-in-law was a resident five years ago and I recently volunteered at the summer fayre and BBQ. There was such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, I was amazed at how many staff and their relatives turned up, especially on their day off. It was a beautiful, sunny day; it was great to see the
children and the residents interacting and enjoying the activities. So very different from previous visits. I have no worries about returning and will help out again in the future.

I offered my help at the Summer Fayre and Barbeque at Stephenson Court in Sept 2018 where I ran a tombola to raise funds for the resident's fund.
On arrival, I was a little early but was kindly offered a cup of tea and then enjoyed a chat with the residents once they had finished their lunch.
The
Fayre was the first event for a very new management team and was my introduction to them, staff are so kind with the residents and chatted with them, many came to support the home on their day off. The weather was good and residents, families and friends enjoyed the garden, there were some animals to handle, stalls and a Barbeque beautifully prepared by the chef.
I was impressed with the cleanliness of the home but more importantly, just how happy the residents were, there's a real family atmosphere in this home! I'm looking forward to the next event which is a Halloween party and will be popping into the new Friday morning coffee mornings when I am able.

During the time of the troubles at Stephenson Court, I have to say that my mum's care was never affected in any way thanks to the good staff all around who must have been feeling the strain and worrying about their jobs and possible closure.
When we take mum out, she always asks if she is going home
which is a good recommendation for the care she has received and still receiving. It is good for us as a family to know this. The home has a lovely homely atmosphere and very friendly. We thank the wonderful carers, they are totally undervalued.

My relation has been in Stephenson Court since 2017.
New management and staff have started and improvements have been made. I am very grateful for the care and attention my relation receives. All the carers treat my relation with dignity but some go out of their way to make sure my relation is comfortable
and content.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Stephenson Court to look after and care for your relation.

My husband visits the home more than me but we both agree that this home is a relaxing and pleasant environment to live in. It always looks and smells clean. The staff are so friendly and patient and very caring and always make us feel welcome. The bedrooms could be a little larger but they are cosy
and very clean. Nothing to complain about and plenty to be grateful for.

After all the negative press about this care home, it's about time people step forward and give the nod to the massive transformation lately. New manager and new nurses and smiles on the faces of happy staff. The manager has given Stephenson Court a real boost and the team speak very highly of him.
My family have seen this home at its worst and the difference is night and day. Residents are well cared for in a quiet, calm home by staff who genuinely care and are passionate about what they are doing. Lots of positive changes that are obvious to see and I have no reason to criticise at all. They deserve so much credit for making Stephenson Court into a lovely place for people to live and also to visit. Me and my family thank you all.

My mam has been in this care home for over three years and I'm so happy how they have looked after her.
Every day we go in she is always clean and tidy. The staff are all so helpful and friendly. I have no complaints at all.
All the staff are so sociable, from the cleaners, carers, office staff and
management. They are all very approachable.

The home has been under special measures since October 2017 shortly after my wife was admitted. As a result, occupancy has been around 50% of capacity and this has also been a time where a high number of agency staff has been employed meaning a lack of continuity in both nursing and care staff.


Those

staff - nurses, carers, housekeepers and catering who have been present throughout have shown an appreciative level of dedication and compassion.

My mum was a resident for just a short time. The care, attention and love shown to my mum was excellent in every way. Without the care she received we couldn't have managed. The staff went out of their way in every detail. At the very end, two members of staff stayed with us and explained what to expect
which made the process easier to handle and at the end, the love shown by all staff was above and beyond duty for which we will be eternally grateful and have no hesitation in recommending Stephenson Court to anyone in the same situation we were in.
