Maple Lodge Care Home is located in Sunderland's Witherwack suburb and is close to shops, amenities, public transport and the A19. The Bridges Shopping Centre is just one mile away.

This purpose built care home offers nursing and social care for the frail elderly and the elderly mentally infirm. Maple Lodge provides TV lounges and a quiet sitting room for relaxation. Separate dining rooms, where residents can socialise at meal times, are also offered. Traditional home cooked food is served using fresh produce with residents being able to select from the choices available daily. Special diets can be catered for.

The home is visited on a regular basis by an experienced hair stylist and qualified chiropodist. Complementary therapies can also be arranged. Residents may benefit from the varied programme of activities that are provided and the large gardens.

My mam went into Maple Lodge for respite as my dad was taken ill. She settled very well and loved the staff. We had a window visit with Mam at the beginning of February with Dad, Mam was happy and settled, which was a blessing as Dad was quite worried about her. She told us how she had made new friends,
had been baking cakes and the girls were lovely. Unfortunately, my mam suffered a stroke on 9th February and was taken to hospital and died on the 13th. I cannot praise the care staff enough, they made our mam's last few weeks happy and we as a family will be forever grateful for that.

All the staff were amazing supporting my mam and all the family during her end of life care. They even took calls from my brother in the USA during the night! We are extremely thankful that we had the support of all the team at Maple Lodge during the time Mam stayed with them. From the moment they welcomed
her in, we knew she was going to be cared for as if she was one of their own family.

Mam has been under the care of Maple Lodge for three months. I have found the staff to be very helpful and supportive. Mam is happy and well looked after and I am happy knowing that all her needs are met and she is treated with kindness and respect.

My sister was on a downward spiral before entering the care home. Her hygiene and diet were at a low and being diabetic, her diet was paramount. Since entering the home, her hygiene and diet are no longer major concerns and she is well looked after and has company all the time. The opportunity is there
for day trips and the staff are excellent.

Maple Lodge is one of the best care homes I've seen. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much bother. The meals all look very nice and all the home is lovely and clean.
The home is not too big which means residents can have personal attention from the staff.

Mam has been in this home for about seven weeks. The staff are excellent. She has been well cared for. The room is clean and tidy. The carers are very helpful if Mam needs anything.

My mother has now been there for 2 and a half years and in that time, I have always found the staff caring and attentive. The home is clean and free of smell and I believe the food is good and varies. My mother seems to be well looked after and clean.

On Thursday 16th March, at lunchtime, I visited my partner at Maple Lodge Care Home. I was greeted by staff who informed me she had called for a doctor as she was concerned over my partner's condition. The doctor examined my partner and summoned emergency paramedics. At 6 pm her family were called
to Sunderland Royal Hospital because of grave concern over her chest infection, fluid on the lungs and retaining her CO2 body gases. Thankfully my partner pulled through. Your employee's skill and prompt action in the first instance played a major part in my partner making a full recovery. We are eternally thankful to her and all the team at Maple Lodge Care Home.

Helen has worked in the care home sector for many years, and has been a Deputy Manager at various places over the years, before joining Maple Lodge as Home Manager in December 2022. Helen has her Level 5 NVQ in Management and is also a qualified Care Home Assistant Practitioner who specialises in both elderly and complex care. Family time is very important to Helen. She spends her free time travelling with her children and husband, and Helen’s proudest achievement outside of work is raising her children and watching them grow into the people they are today. Words of encouragement from Helen for someone looking for the right care home would be: “A good home should have a nice warm and welcoming feeling.”
