Maple Lodge Care Home is located in Sunderland's Witherwack suburb and is close to shops, amenities, public transport and the A19. The Bridges Shopping Centre is just one mile away.

This purpose built care home offers nursing and social care for the frail elderly and the elderly mentally infirm. Maple Lodge provides TV lounges and a quiet sitting room for relaxation. Separate dining rooms, where residents can socialise at meal times, are also offered. Traditional home cooked food is served using fresh produce with residents being able to select from the choices available daily. Special diets can be catered for.

The home is visited on a regular basis by an experienced hair stylist and qualified chiropodist. Complementary therapies can also be arranged. Residents may benefit from the varied programme of activities that are provided and the large gardens.

Staff are very good, helpful and caring. My dad seems content under the circumstances. The facilities are good, clean and the food is good. Overall as a family, they are supporting our dad. Everything so far has been of a professional standard.

I have never had a problem with Maple Lodge the staff are very caring and attentive to residents. If ever dad had had a medical issue prompt action had been taken to get medical attention for him. I genuinely feel that the staff look after dad as if he was their own father and I can tell that dad likes
them too by his interaction with them. He often smiles and gives them a cheeky wink when they are talking to him.

My father has been a resident at Maple Lodge for four months during that time he has been made very welcome and he has settled in well. He gets on very well with all the staff and has nothing but praise for them. He enjoys a bit of banter with them and they are always kind and considerate towards him.
They always try to include him in activities although he is sometimes a bit reluctant. Nevertheless they always ask if he would like to join in. I am always kept informed if there are any health issues. Overall we are both happy with his care.

We were warmly welcomed about a week ago when my mother-in-law was transferred from Sunderland Royal Hospital. The staff were courteous and friendly and they quickly made us feel at ease and confident. The whole organisation seemed to have direction and purpose and everyone seemed to know their role
and what was expected for them. Everyone appeared relaxed and there was interaction between the staff and residents. My mother-in-law quickly relaxed and joined in.

Dad has been in three care homes, including this one during 2015. He has been the most settled and content in this one. The staff are helpful, pleasant and chatty to residents. The amenities are quite good, and it is good that activities are laid on most days, however some residents remain bored. It
might be helpful to arrange for someone to come round with newspapers each day (local newsagent) or even a couple of newspapers left in the lounge. Food seems very good, is there any change I can come for a break myself? The provision of an alarm pendant for residents who tend to have falls would be beneficial.

I have been pleased with the way my dad has been looked after while he has been here. I have always been informed of his health and any issues that may arise. I cannot fault the staff they have always been pleasant to dad and family always listen if I want to know about anything. Dad is happy here he
is really well cared for.

Staff were fantastic with my mother who was occupying a time to think bed. She has now moved on to be nearer to us but she really appreciated the help that she received. Another fantastic feature is having ensuite rooms which seem to be so rare in other nursing homes, this saves elderly people from
having to navigate unfamiliar corridors in the dead of night to find a toilet. Thanks to all concerned.

Helen has worked in the care home sector for many years, and has been a Deputy Manager at various places over the years, before joining Maple Lodge as Home Manager in December 2022. Helen has her Level 5 NVQ in Management and is also a qualified Care Home Assistant Practitioner who specialises in both elderly and complex care. Family time is very important to Helen. She spends her free time travelling with her children and husband, and Helen’s proudest achievement outside of work is raising her children and watching them grow into the people they are today.
