Situated in a quiet residential area of Houghton-le-Spring, The Mews Care Home provides residential and nursing care in a home from home setting.

The home is equipped with a range of facilities to offer residents an engaging and happy lifestyle. From the bar and lounge area and the on-site hair salon to the regular activities and events arranged by the team, the team strive to create an active and positive environment.

Experienced and compassionate, the team pride themselves on delivering bespoke care and support to each individual resident. They spend time getting to know them and finding out more about who they are and their interests. This allows them to create an environment where residents feel included and respected, whilst also ensuring each person receives care that is suited to them and their preferences.

My dad is shown respect, dignity and a great deal of care. I can't fault the staff, food or quality of the care home. It really does have the feel of home.

We can not thank you all enough for the care you gave to our Mam, in the last week of her life at The Mews. Everyone made her feel so at home and still managed to give her lots of laughs at this difficult time. There were lots of family visiting and we were equally well looked after with cups of tea
etc. We never felt in the way regardless of what time we were visiting, day or night. Nothing was too much. It's a very difficult job you do, but it's so very valuable and much appreciated. Thank you again.

The care and kindness my mother received from all staff was superb. Not only to her but to us as her family. We could not have asked for more. They made her final days comfortable and loving. A massive thank you to you all.

We visited five different care homes before visiting The Mews. It was immediately apparent that The Mews met all our requirements for the care of my wife who was suffering with Alzheimers/dementia. The care she received was beyond my expectations. All the staff, managers, admin, careworkers, kitchen,
cleaners and activities were all well trained and caring. They are all second to none.

My mother had to go into care urgently and this concerned me as I have had dealings with other care homes in the past. If only they were all ran in the way that The Mews is and were blessed with the exceptionally kind and caring staff.


My mother's care was second to none, nothing was a bother no

problem was insurmountable. She was always spoken to and handled as if a friend.


The nurses gave the very best of care and reassured and kept family members informed and included.


All family members were welcomed to visit at any time of day or night. We were supplied with tea, coffee, sandwiches and the best cream scones ever. The staff checked on us to make sure we were as comfortable as possible without being intrusive.


A very difficult time was made so much easier to deal with for all involved.

My sister has been in The Mews for about six weeks now and the care she has received has been excellent. The staff are friendly and approachable and always keep us up to date on my sisters progress. My sister is happy and settled and we as a family know she is receiving the care she needs now.

My mum has only been in the home for a couple of weeks but I have to say that the standard of care there is excellent. The staff are friendly and they always put you at ease. Nothing is too much trouble for them. I wasn't sure how my mum would cope about not being in her own home but she seems to have
settled in just great. The staff are always keen to help her as and when she needs it. I would definitely recommend this care home to anyone who is looking for a high standard of care for their relative.

The Mews is providing a first class care service to my mother from caring and attentive staff. The facilities are very good, providing a varied food menu and a range of activities. Medical and care staff are friendly and provide good care. Admin staff are also efficient and respond to discussion/problems
10/10 - worthy of such a score.

I can only say that my husband in The Mews care home is very well looked after. Every one of the staff are lovely with him and also myself when I go to see him. He is treated with dignity and respect as I have noticed every other resident is. I can only say how much I appreciate all the staff who look
after him.

Amanda

Amanda Cavanagh

Job Title: Registered Manager Joined: 2023

Amanda began her career in 1987, qualifying as a nurse in 1990. She predominantly worked in the NHS in Day surgery, theatres and with outpatients.


Amanda had a specific love for spinal surgery and assisted the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to bring their first spinal fusion patients into the then-North East Surgery Centre.


She attended Northumbria University where she completed her Diploma in Health Education in 2003, completed her mentorship training in 2005 and her degree in 2014.


Amanda changed her focus to concentrate on getting back to basics and providing the love and care that the elderly deserved. She entered social care in 2017 as a Deputy Manager and then became Manager in 2018.


Amanda enjoys studying and has since completed her IOSH training in 2021. She is passionate about people and loves spending time with family and especially her grandson.


Amanda enjoys travelling, foreign holidays and keeping fit.
