The care my sister receives is excellent. The staff are so caring and supportive. There's always something for the residents to do either arts & crafts, bingo, entertainment and loads more. The food is always lovely.
Reply from clare Robson, Manager at Croft DeneThank you for taking your time to provide us with such lovely feedback. I am pleased that the experience you have had has been a positive one. Thank you.

The standard of care in this care home is, frankly terrible. My brothers room never looks clean and the staff are very slow to clean him up.
My brother has dementia and is supposedly getting palliative care. I see very little sign of this.
I visited my brother on Monday and his breakfast was all over
his bed. He can't feed himself as he is too weak. I saw the manager who promised that he would be fed his meals from now on. On Tuesday my other brother found him lying on his back with a stone cold untouched breakfast on the table. On Wednesday I went in early and a carer brought in his breakfast and put it on his knee. I asked her to feed him and she said she didn't have time so I fed him. I saw the "Manager" again who said she would sort it out. I have her name and will report this shocking state of affairs and lack of basic care to every authority I can think of.
Please think twice before putting a loved one in this home.
The staff always say that they are short staffed. GET MORE STAFF.

I cannot express enough gratitude to Olive Row Care Home during this time where my Nan has been deteriorating. The communication, the care, the respect has been exemplary and given us so much comfort during a difficult time. Helen especially has been so empathetic & understanding of our situation and
fears and offered so much support. From the receptionist to the carers, the nurses and everyone & we need to say thank you.

In the 3 months we have been visiting our friend in Olive Row Care Home we have found everyone of the staff to be friendly and helpful. Management are very approachable. The levels of detail and attention to the care of residents is reassuring. A home from home. Thank you everyone.

My mother has been a resident for the last 4 weeks and I have found that the staff are doing an excellent job sometimes in difficult circumstances.
I particularly noticed the cleanliness of my mothers room and all common areas is of a high standard and she is always well turned out when I visit which
is every day.

My mother has nearly one year in Primrose, Felling, Gateshead. Teething trouble at first but she is very settled now. The staff love her singing, though me and my sister didn't want to let her go, we feel it was the best decision for her needs.

Dad stayed at Croft Dene for four weeks following hip surgery, and with the support of all the staff he settled in wonderfully. The home is well managed, and every member of the team is friendly, helpful, and genuinely caring. Staff consistently go above and beyond, always willing to listen to any concerns
and were unfailingly kind and welcoming each time we visited. A big thank you to everyone at Croft Dene.

My father became a resident in November 2025, I cannot thank all the staff for their kindness, compassion and understanding in caring for my father in his final days. He settled very quickly, the staff were always happy in their work , the home was always clean and nothing was too much trouble . There
were always plenty of staff and lots of opportunities for residents to engage in the many activities that were always happening. Thank you seems to inadequate for the reassurance you gave us as a family when my father needed it most .

As said in my previous review of Primrose House most of the staff are great, very friendly and genuinely care for residents, however he has deteriorated very quickly and probably needs more care than when he first went in, his room is awful now and very run down as most of the building is, its very
outdated and to be fair to the cleaning staff who do an amazing job they aren't responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the place. Im aware that the 3rd floor is being decorated but I do hope thats not all that is being done, this seems to be taking a very long time. Im hoping my partner can be moved to a cleaner and more pleasant room and more of his care needs be met. Im afraid my opinion of the managers (NOT the senior carers) is not a good one, i feel they do not interact with the residents and its left to the carers and staff who do an outstanding job.

Simmins crescent is what a residential home should be .where staff do there upmost to meet the individuals needs, not just in the person centred approach they are trained to give, but with compassion and love .when you step through the front door the atmosphere is just like home .staff are friendly and
welcoming ,the home itself is always busy ,with lots of noise as individuals pursue their own interests ,often with a bit of friendly rivalry and banter ( just like you get at home )

Primrose Care Home is possibly the worst care home in the North East. It is dirty, dated and has rudest staff I've ever known. The staff don't know the meaning of care. Items of my relative have gone missing. For example her glasses (2 pairs ) are nowhere to be seen but my relative cannot leave her
room so it can't be down to her that they have gone missing. The manager doesn't do anything to resolve any issues we have raised with her. Over the last few visits I have witnessed staff members put my relative in danger, which is not acceptable.

On my last visit to Simmins Crescent which was in November last year I found the Home to be a happy place to visit. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere and my nephew seems really settled. The carers are really kind towards my nephew and treat him with patience and dignity. This obviously gives me
peace of mind knowing that he is being cared for so well.
As to the new management, I'm unable to make any comment at the moment as I have been unable to visit this year.
I hope the residence continue to be treated with care and respect and that the standard continues to improve for both carers and of course, residence. I felt I had to give a management rating but it is on the previous management.
