My mother has nearly one year in Primrose, Felling, Gateshead. Teething trouble at first but she is very settled now. The staff love her singing, though me and my sister didn't want to let her go, we feel it was the best decision for her needs.

My mam is well cared for and the staff do genuinely seem to care for her. The third floor has recently been decorated and it's lovely and bright and clean. The food is always well presented and my mam always seems to enjoy her meals. My mam is always well presented and clean.
Staff are always welcoming.

Dad stayed at Croft Dene for four weeks following hip surgery, and with the support of all the staff he settled in wonderfully. The home is well managed, and every member of the team is friendly, helpful, and genuinely caring. Staff consistently go above and beyond, always willing to listen to any concerns

My father became a resident in November 2025, I cannot thank all the staff for their kindness, compassion and understanding in caring for my father in his final days. He settled very quickly, the staff were always happy in their work , the home was always clean and nothing was too much trouble . There
were always plenty of staff and lots of opportunities for residents to engage in the many activities that were always happening. Thank you seems to inadequate for the reassurance you gave us as a family when my father needed it most .

Primrose House Care Home

from M L (Partner of Resident) published on 17 February 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
As said in my previous review of Primrose House most of the staff are great, very friendly and genuinely care for residents, however he has deteriorated very quickly and probably needs more care than when he first went in, his room is awful now and very run down as most of the building is, its very
outdated and to be fair to the cleaning staff who do an amazing job they aren't responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the place. Im aware that the 3rd floor is being decorated but I do hope thats not all that is being done, this seems to be taking a very long time. Im hoping my partner can be moved to a cleaner and more pleasant room and more of his care needs be met. Im afraid my opinion of the managers (NOT the senior carers) is not a good one, i feel they do not interact with the residents and its left to the carers and staff who do an outstanding job.

Simmins crescent is what a residential home should be .where staff do there upmost to meet the individuals needs, not just in the person centred approach they are trained to give, but with compassion and love .when you step through the front door the atmosphere is just like home .staff are friendly and
welcoming ,the home itself is always busy ,with lots of noise as individuals pursue their own interests ,often with a bit of friendly rivalry and banter ( just like you get at home )

Primrose House Care Home

from K R (Grandson of Resident) published on 5 February 2026
Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
Primrose Care Home is possibly the worst care home in the North East. It is dirty, dated and has rudest staff I've ever known. The staff don't know the meaning of care. Items of my relative have gone missing. For example her glasses (2 pairs ) are nowhere to be seen but my relative cannot leave her
room so it can't be down to her that they have gone missing. The manager doesn't do anything to resolve any issues we have raised with her. Over the last few visits I have witnessed staff members put my relative in danger, which is not acceptable.
Reply from Bernadette Cromwell, Head of Marketing at Primrose House Care HomeThank you for sharing your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear about your concerns and want to assure you they are being taken seriously. We would welcome the opportunity for you to speak directly with the Home Manager, who can help address and resolve any concerns as quickly as possible. The wellbeing of our residents is our highest priority, and we remain fully committed to delivering the high standard of care we are known for.

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
On my last visit to Simmins Crescent which was in November last year I found the Home to be a happy place to visit. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere and my nephew seems really settled. The carers are really kind towards my nephew and treat him with patience and dignity. This obviously gives me
peace of mind knowing that he is being cared for so well.
As to the new management, I'm unable to make any comment at the moment as I have been unable to visit this year.
I hope the residence continue to be treated with care and respect and that the standard continues to improve for both carers and of course, residence. I felt I had to give a management rating but it is on the previous management.

The home & staff are very proactive and attentive to my mother's needs. So many staff have taken time to build a lovely rapport with my mother and this is fantastic. I feel there could maybe be more enriching activities, outdoor time in Summer & maybe more upbeat events like music or sing alongs. This
is by no means a complaint, just a suggestion. The staff work incredibly hard and I am assured that my mother is getting very well looked after.

Mum has been in Olive Row for just over 2 years now, Having Suffered a stroke at home, transferred there from NGH. Both of my parents have lived here for two years and we have found the care to be excellent. The staff are lovely and very attentive. If I was to give some suggestions to improve the home it would be to install foam edging on sharp corners of furniture and dado rails to limit injuries to residents.
Secondly, I would suggest that a member of staff be stationed in the lounge to keep an eye on residents trying to move around.
