Simmins Crescent

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
On my last visit to Simmins Crescent which was in November last year I found the Home to be a happy place to visit. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere and my nephew seems really settled. The carers are really kind towards my nephew and treat him with patience and dignity. This obviously gives me
peace of mind knowing that he is being cared for so well.
As to the new management, I'm unable to make any comment at the moment as I have been unable to visit this year.
I hope the residence continue to be treated with care and respect and that the standard continues to improve for both carers and of course, residence. I felt I had to give a management rating but it is on the previous management.

The home & staff are very proactive and attentive to my mother's needs. So many staff have taken time to build a lovely rapport with my mother and this is fantastic. I feel there could maybe be more enriching activities, outdoor time in Summer & maybe more upbeat events like music or sing alongs. This
is by no means a complaint, just a suggestion. The staff work incredibly hard and I am assured that my mother is getting very well looked after.

Mum has been in Olive Row for just over 2 years now, Having Suffered a stroke at home, transferred there from NGH. For some time, she had a room on the first floor, but is now on the ground floor at the care home and is settled there. The room is kept nice and tidy and clean, as is the rest of the Home.
All the staff work very hard and are very committed to taking care of Mum and the rest of the residents, and they show a great deal of care and kindness.

Both of my parents have lived here for two years and we have found the care to be excellent. The staff are lovely and very attentive. If I was to give some suggestions to improve the home it would be to install foam edging on sharp corners of furniture and dado rails to limit injuries to residents.
Secondly, I would suggest that a member of staff be stationed in the lounge to keep an eye on residents trying to move around.

Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Cedar Court Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown to our grandmother during her time there. She was treated with dignity, kindness, and respect, and it gave us great comfort knowing she was well looked after.

The staff

We are pleased with the care mum is receiving. When she first became a resident, she wasn't eating, she was losing weight. With the help from the staff, she is now eating a more varied diet and is no longer losing weight. Mum always seems relaxed when we visit. The staff are always friendly and helpful.
It is lovely to see that Jane (activity organiser) involves all the residents, and is always calm and happy with them.

This is a situation no family wants to find themselves in, but the manager has made it a far more positive experience than we ever expected. From my first visit, it was clear that his approach shapes the care at The Mews. His explanation of the 6 GEMS Approach to Dementia Care showed a real understanding
of the individual behind the condition.

This is my dad's third care home. He has not yet received a formal diagnosis of dementia but experiences significant cognitive difficulties and episodes of delirium. Previous placements resulted in hospital admissions, so our biggest concern as a family was how he would be treated and whether he would be kept safe and cared for with compassion.

What has stood out most is how my dad is supported when he believes he is at work, which happens often. Rather than correcting him, the manager calmly reassures him, again and again, with patience and kindness, while staying grounded in truth. My dad is seen as a person, not a condition.
