Awesome carers and an awesome manager. Someone I don't even know speaks to me like a family member! A certain carer is awesome speaks to me like a normal person and not like an idiot. Spoke to another carer a couple of times and he is like a true, honest person that really cares about my dad.

I have been resident at Northview Lodge for 15 months now and whilst some of the staff are excellent and take the opportunity to improve their knowledge of my condition and what they can do to help me; others have no interest but to sit around chatting and do as little as possible.

The staff are very caring and have made my brother feel good about living here. He now thinks of this care home as his home. There has been a big improvement in his behaviour and his ability to face emotional issues.
My family never believed that he would have made such progress. Amazing!

My brother has been a resident here since 2001 and has received kindness, respect, privacy and good medical care. I would definitely recommend this care home. Also, he loves the food, which looks and smells delicious to me too.

I arrived in January 2016, totally bewildered and confused, being aware of my medical history due to years of 'self' abuse of alcohol. Now, with the extremely helpful and considerate, professional staff employed on site, I have grown in confidence and feel I am reborn.

My husband has been here for 5 months. The care he receives is excellent and the staff are all wonderful. I am confident that he is being looked after well and I could not ask for more. As I live 40 miles away, it is very reassuring to know I do not have to worry about him when I cannot be there.

Very anxious when first moved in here, meeting new people, strange surroundings, new area of Sunderland etc.
I like to keep myself to myself and prefer as little noise and disruption as possible.
Staff and management are very helpful to me. Thanks a lot.
Hope I can move on from here to nice accommodation,
still see my mam and stay off alcohol. Thank you all.

I commenced residing approximately 3 months prior to this report. I was reluctant to engage with staff as I did not anticipate such a lengthy residing, therefore this report must be read within the context of my overriding depression. I have no experience of any other residential care home.
I believe
that I have been treated with dignity and have received the requisite level of care. However, my needs are constantly changing and I am not sure staff are keeping up with my changing needs. Staff are generally polite although sometimes feels as if the attention I get is through gritted teeth. The staff that I have had the most interaction with have been particularly supportive.
Reply from Katie Price, Careline Advisor at Northview Lodge Care Home

At Northview Lodge, we encourage people to express their thoughts, feelings and perceptions, positive or negative, as we consider doing so to be an integral part of their care and recovery plan. This is particularly important for people who find themselves living with us when they would choose to reside elsewhere if they could. We acknowledge people’s feelings on a day to day basis and work with them to build on their positivity and to work together to address any negativity that they may be experiencing at that time. At Northview Lodge providing kindness in care and delivering the best care experience for people is at the heart of everything we do.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.792)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.792) out of 10 for Northview Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.736 for Northview Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (56 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.736
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.056 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Northview Lodge Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.556
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
