Overview

The Review Score of 8.8 (maximum of 10) for Barnes Court Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 12 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Barnes Court Care Centre in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.377 for Barnes Court Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (58 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 138 Ratings = 4.377

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.393 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barnes Court Care Centre is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 17.8 positive Reviews (89 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 7 Reviews ÷ 17.8 Target = 0.393

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

8.8 Barnes Court Care Centre has a Review Score of 8.8 (8.770) from 12 Reviews

The overall standard of this home is very good. Compared to many other homes that were viewed in Sunderland - cleanliness is of a very high standard (even compared to some higher quality standard homes - which was a big thing for us as a family). Staff always work hard to keep the building clean and tidy. Care standards appear very good the majority of the time and some of the care staff really do go above and beyond (although very busy at times as this has been demonstrated when some residents can't be taken outside when they wish and have to wait). Staff are on the whole very approachable and helpful. Activities are available for residents to participate in if they wish. One downside is that residents are not taken anywhere outside of the home, which we were initially told would happen (trips to the pub/ park/ shops). We were also told initially there was a minibus that was used to take residents out - but this has not happened.

Mandy Mackley, Home Manager at Barnes Court Care Centre responded to this review on 04 Apr 2018:

Thank you for your comments. We're delighted to hear that you are happy with the standards of care at Barnes Court and your kind comments about our staff - I will be sure to pass these on to the team. With regards to your comment on the lack of trips out, we usually cut back on the number of planned day trips out during the winter months due to the unpredictable weather which can lead to trips being cancelled at last minute which we always want to avoid. We will be incorporating more day trips out into our activities plan as the weather improves & will be asking for residents' suggestions for places to visit. However, because we understand that getting out and about for some fresh air all year round is important to some of our residents, staff do regularly accompany residents for a walk around the local area, such as trips to the local shops.

My review of this home is good value for money. The care of the residents is good. The staff are good and very helpful, they are there to help and support you if you need them. They are there for support and advice when needed.

As a daughter of a resident who has worked in several care homes myself, I have been extremely happy with every aspect of the care home. My mother seems very relaxed and content with her daily routine and has become a well-loved member of the family group. It is not easy putting a loved one in care but Barnes Court Care Centre has made a difficult heartbreaking situation more bearable.

My grandmother has had some medical conditions that have made her very unwell.
I was notified straight away and the nurse, care practitioners and carers have been so helpful and supportive to my grandmother and myself in getting her pain relief and help from other medical professions.

The home is and has been very good at dealing with the needs of my mother. At times slow to react to certain things but I put a lot of this down to the red tape of the system as a whole. The staff fully appear to want to care for my mother and are very forthcoming and friendly when visiting. I am delighted at the overall care and patience and honesty of the staff and feel comfortable having my mother at this home. Thank you.
