Welcome to Barnes Court.

Located in High Barnes close to Barnes Park and the Royal Hospital in Sunderland, Barnes Court is located on Wycliffe Road close to Barnes Junior and Infant School with onsite car parking and offers residential, EMI residential, nursing and young people with disabilities care. For visitors who are not driving take the 2 or 2A Black Cats Bus, 78 Coast and Country or 700 Sunderland Connect to Sunderland Royal and the home is ½ mile walk.

The home is a multi storey, purpose-built building, which has a secure, central garden containing outdoor seating and raised flower beds for green-fingered residents who enjoy gardening.

Inside the home, you will find many amenities on each floor. The ground floor houses their young residents with disabilities and has an activities room with pool table and games console, meeting room, lounge and dining room. The middle floor has two units, a second unit for younger residents and Dementia unit. Both units have their own lounge and dining room.

The third floor is the nursing and general residential floor which has a coffee shop, lounge and dining room. All bedrooms are offered furnished and there are a number of communal bathrooms on each floor.

They have a dedicated activities coordinator on site and residents enjoy activities in and out of the home which includes trips out to the coast, café’s, bowling or cinema, entertainers in the home, crafts, prize bingo, gardening, home baking, domino’s, knit and knatter club and activities for special events. For residents who do enjoy quiet time to themselves there are jigsaws, board games available as well as 1-1 time.

Barnes Court has a 5 star award in Food Hygiene. They believe food is a huge aspect of their care at Barnes Court and residents enjoy a cooked breakfast, choice of lunch and dinner meals, supper and hospitality trolley with drinks and cakes throughout the day.

My daughter was in Barnes Court for over 2 years from January 200 19 until July 2021 and was well looked after. She recently returned to Barnes Court after says in hospital. We found she was well looked after and treated with respect by both management and staff and we are glad to see her settled back
in.

Although only able to visit once per week for 30 minutes I find the home clean, tidy, the staff are friendly and the management approachable. I'm not there for meals so I can't comment on these. The rooms are basic. At the moment the home does not have anyone full-time for activities and this is a
big miss.

My mother was placed in Barnes Court after a short stay in hospital. After a two month stay which included Christmas and New year, she was allowed to return home. I can honestly say that if it wasn’t for the excellent care and attention she received from the staff at Barnes Court she wouldn’t be in
the good place she is in now. My mother (91) couldn’t praise the staff and the quality of the food she received highly enough. Her room was maintained to a high standard and the support she received was first class. Abby, Julie, Kate and all carers and support staff on floor 2 are to be commended on their professional approach and I would like to thank them again for the care my mother received.

My mum who has chronic delirium, dementia and Alzheimers has been a resident here for nine weeks now and I am very pleased with the care she is receiving and the care the brilliant staff have shown me. They keep me informed of her wellbeing and act quickly on any concerns that may arise. Mum seems to
be enjoying the many activities that are organised, especially singing and the visits of the pet therapy ponies. Keep up the good work and thank you.

On bringing Mum to Barnes Court Care home I have seen a happier mother of late. The staff are very good at dealing with Mum's dementia. The activities are well thought out and bring Mum back to her old way of life. She arrives home tired but that is a positive for all of us. The food is good and Mum
tends not to leave anything on her plate, another good point. All in all a good decision by us to place her here.

My Nana has been in this care home for several years. I cannot recommend highly enough. The staff are excellent at what they do. The residents are treated like family. The Activities Coordinator get everyone involved in daily activities. The Manager is very approachable with a friendly down to earth

My Mam has been in for just over a week. Initially, we had problems related to a skin infection on her tummy. I am satisfied that management put in a sufficient effort to take care of this problem and to make sure that it wouldn't happen again. The only other criticism I have is that on multiple occasions
my Mam has been given a sandwich for tea. Ideally, we want her to have hot food. I believe that staff and management do care a lot for my Mam and have built a close relationship with her and I am happy to have her in Barnes court.

With regards to her having sandwiches for tea, we offer several menu options for each meal time which does include hot food options as well as lighter alternatives like sandwiches and we regularly seek feedback from residents on our menu choices so we can make changes to the menu in line with resident preferences.

The staff at Barnes Court have a high degree of professionalism, as well as putting residents first when caring. The food is excellent with the rooms of a very high standard of cleanliness. My brother is well cared for with a great variety of social events to attend. I would recommend Barnes court to

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Hi, my name is Sue Clark and I am the Deputy Manager at Barnes Court.


I have worked for the company for almost 10 years, starting as a Care Assistant, progressing to Care Practitioner and then given the opportunity to progress even further with company support to train as a Nursing Associate at Teesside University. After completing the course I graduated in 2022 and continued as a Registered Nursing Associate, then was offered the job as Deputy Manager in January 2024 which I accepted and continue to be in post, enjoying the day to day running of Barnes Court, the challenges and the positive moments which make my career path worthwhile.
