Barnes Court Care Centre

My Mam has been in for just over a week. Initially, we had problems related to a skin infection on her tummy. I am satisfied that management put in a sufficient effort to take care of this problem and to make sure that it wouldn't happen again. The only other criticism I have is that on multiple occasions my Mam has been given a sandwich for tea. Ideally, we want her to have hot food. I believe that staff and management do care a lot for my Mam and have built a close relationship with her and I am happy to have her in Barnes court.

Standards have improved and I am happy with my daughter's care. We are confident she is safe and secure here.

The staff at Barnes Court have a high degree of professionalism, as well as putting residents first when caring. The food is excellent with the rooms of a very high standard of cleanliness. My brother is well cared for with a great variety of social events to attend. I would recommend Barnes court to anyone requiring love, sensitivity and diplomacy at all times. The high degree of caring is a credit to the home and staff. Long may it continue.

My nephew is well looked after. The staff are great with him. Two male carers do a smashing job with him everytime I come he's always in good spirits.

Extremely pleased and grateful to the care home staff for rapid, caring and very professional response to a medical emergency, involving my wife, a resident at Barnes Court. This was identified and acted upon very quickly and potentially life threating situation was avoided. Would like to express my thanks to the staff for actions taken and for informing me immediately of the situation and my wife's condition and at all times sympathetic, helpful, caring and again professional. Excellent, friendly staff. My mother gets well looked after and cared for. Would recommend Barnes Court to anyone.

Some negatives - windows on the building could be kept cleaner. Also, the care home (countywide) minibus looks dirty and rusty, not a good advert and certainly gives a false impression when parked outside the home.

It's a lovely home and very nice. I have no complaints.

The overall standard of this home is very good. Compared to many other homes that were viewed in Sunderland - cleanliness is of a very high standard (even compared to some higher quality standard homes - which was a big thing for us as a family). Staff always work hard to keep the building clean and tidy. Care standards appear very good the majority of the time and some of the care staff really do go above and beyond (although very busy at times as this has been demonstrated when some residents can't be taken outside when they wish and have to wait). Staff are on the whole very approachable and helpful. Activities are available for residents to participate in if they wish. One downside is that residents are not taken anywhere outside of the home, which we were initially told would happen (trips to the pub/ park/ shops). We were also told initially there was a minibus that was used to take residents out - but this has not happened.

My review of this home is good value for money. The care of the residents is good. The staff are good and very helpful, they are there to help and support you if you need them. They are there for support and advice when needed.

Staff work hard but are underpaid. They are kind, caring and understanding.

Since I have been here I have found the staff very helpful and people you can have a laugh with which is good.

As a daughter of a resident who has worked in several care homes myself, I have been extremely happy with every aspect of the care home. My mother seems very relaxed and content with her daily routine and has become a well-loved member of the family group. It is not easy putting a loved one in care but Barnes Court Care Centre has made a difficult heartbreaking situation more bearable.

Have no worries about my brother. He is well cared for. Staff are very good.
