The residents of Piper Court Care Home are perhaps best described as hard-working, warm and generous people, reflecting the values of the community they come from, which is a housing estate in Stockton-on-Tees, where Piper Court is located.

The welcome that visitors to Piper Court receive reflects the friendliness that is typical of the wider community: a smile, a warm greeting and the offer of a cuppa.

Many of the staff are from the local community, so interaction with residents is natural and relaxed. They share a sense of community, as well as experiences and values. So, building relationships with residents and their families is usually a very smooth process.

Residents are encouraged to stay active, and the activities coordinator takes time with each resident to find out what they would be interested in doing, like gardening. People also come in to talk about activities in the local community that might interest the residents and visits are regularly planned, including from local schools, colleges and the church. The important thing is that staff want to give residents a choice about what they do.

Resident involvement is an important part of the care package at Piper Court. There are monthly resident assemblies and residents also sit on job interview panels. They pose some very interesting questions and it gives Piper Court a good insight into how new staff will react with the residents.

Some staff are lovely. Meals are always nice. Lots of variety and home-cooked, and are always nice and hot. Rooms are nice and cosy.

Mam has been unwell for 5 months and all the staff have been amazing. They have involved her as much is possible. They have been amazing, from the new manager to all staff members. They have gone above and beyond, always smiling. Nothing is any trouble, no matter how many times I ask for help with my
mam.

I am very pleased with the standard of care and treatment my father has received. The staff treat my father with respect and is always treated with compassion and dignity.
The staff are very friendly and approachable, and always have a smile for both family and residents.
My father is my mother's
world, and have appreciated the support and care they offer my mother on visits.

The staff are very caring and look after my dad really well.
He is getting to know more residents due to visiting the garden (which is lovely). I think this is making his stay better for him.
The staff are welcoming, patient, and polite, but most of all very friendly and relaxed around him making
him smile and laugh.
Lovely facility.

Piper Court is such a lovely care home, with the most wonderful staff. It was so nice that my dad was so well cared for. It's kept immaculately clean and the food is excellent. It's the first time my dad has enjoyed staying in a care home and it's pure peace of mind knowing he is happy and cared for.
Many, many thanks to each and every member of staff!

From the moment we arrived, until the moment we left everyone, and I mean everyone, was friendly and accommodating and couldn't do enough for my mother and also our family.
No complaints about anyone or anything. Facilities at the home were good, meals varied and regular drinks and snacks offered.
Piper Court has a great team and a lot to be proud of. Well done.

The room is clean and tidy and the staff are friendly and helpful. My dad seems to be happy with the care he is receiving. There has been concerns that his room is too far away from the office and staff because he does fall over. They suggested they have him closer to the office where they can get to
him quickly but this has not been done yet.

I looked at a few care homes before settling for this one. After a visit to have a look around, this one seemed to have all that we wanted. My father would have company, nice surroundings and most of all be safe and secure. Happy with the care he has had up to date.

Despite the current lockdown situation and not being able to visit, the staff have kept us up to date with developments on visiting procedures. They implemented the use of an iPad to WhatsApp clients. It appears that there has been an increase in activities to try and keep clients/residents from becoming
lonely with not being able to see relatives face to face.

Mostly my experience has been positive I don't think COVID19 has helped and has certainly stretched all the skills of the staff team. However, I feel that the staff team have coped well given the challenges they have encountered. The main thing for me is that my mam has remained settled there. Hopefully,
now the new manager is in place there will be more consistency in their approach to care given.

Where do I begin- from the moment my Dad was admitted into Piper Court the care and compassion he received was unremarkable, nothing at all was too much trouble. Every staff member who looked after my Dad went above and beyond the call of duty.
Unfortunately, my Dad was only in here just under two
weeks before he passed but the care he received was unremarkable.
I cannot praise the staff here enough.

Very poor care, not enough staff. More often short-staffed.
No support from the manager, never see her and cannot get an appointment, more interested in her dog.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.790)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.790) out of 10 for Piper Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.690 for Piper Court is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.69
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.1 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Piper Court is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.5
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
