The residents of Piper Court Care Home are perhaps best described as hard-working, warm and generous people, reflecting the values of the community they come from, which is a housing estate in Stockton-on-Tees, where Piper Court is located.

The welcome that visitors to Piper Court receive reflects the friendliness that is typical of the wider community: a smile, a warm greeting and the offer of a cuppa.

Many of the staff are from the local community, so interaction with residents is natural and relaxed. They share a sense of community, as well as experiences and values. So, building relationships with residents and their families is usually a very smooth process.

Residents are encouraged to stay active, and the activities coordinator takes time with each resident to find out what they would be interested in doing, like gardening. People also come in to talk about activities in the local community that might interest the residents and visits are regularly planned, including from local schools, colleges and the church. The important thing is that staff want to give residents a choice about what they do.

Resident involvement is an important part of the care package at Piper Court. There are monthly resident assemblies and residents also sit on job interview panels. They pose some very interesting questions and it gives Piper Court a good insight into how new staff will react with the residents.

My dad has been in Piper Court since February of this year. He has been happy and content and the staff are always there if I need any advice relating to my Dad's welfare. Nothing is any inconvenience to them and they are always ready to help in any circumstance.

The staff are very pleasant and helpful. My mother is a vegetarian so sometimes finds food is not always adequate. I'm slightly disappointed at the number of activities.

Overall, staff are really good and friendly. The home is clean and residents are well cared for.

My mother came into this care home in February after a very poor experience at another care home. The staff here are wonderful, my mother is very happy and so are we. We cannot recommend this place highly enough!

The staff at Piper Court are truly amazing people.
When everyone gave up on my mother they nursed her not only back to health, she is now walking again.
I would sincerely recommend this home to anyone.
It is a caring and compassionate place and they truly look after their patients.
Thank you.

The care home is the best thing for our Mum. She looks so well every time we visit, day or night. I am told if she has bad days and good. I am very pleased with everything.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.375)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.375) out of 10 for Piper Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.667 for Piper Court is calculated as follows: ( (33 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.667
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.708 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Piper Court is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.333
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
