Absolutely first class, my mother is been at Briardene for two years now and as I live 350 miles away it's so good to know she is being looked after and cared for. The staff are amazing and so good to residents. I honestly cannot praise Briardene enough.

Briardene Care Home is a consistently well managed, well run and friendly Care Home. Communication is open, all staff - both front facing, / back office and inbetween are wonderful - with so many skills between them and with the shared ability of being able to well look after residents with complex
needs.
Staff know well the complexities of each resident, including my Mum, which means they are well versed in spotting behavioural or physical changes. Thus meaning they are able to offer early intervention where necessary.
There are activities organised, there is a wellbeing team and my Mum always looks clean, well groomed and she is encouraged to eat and drink plenty of fluids. Staff have even kindly assisted with calls , especially when I have called from overseas.
If ever there are any qu's or concerns staff / senior staff members are always on hand to advise or inform.
Thank you so much for your ongoing diligence, patience and for all your skilled loving care.
Reply from June Hoggart, General Manager at Barchester Briardene Care HomeThank you for the lovely review. We always appreciate such positive feedback and will ensure to pass on to all the team. It is an absolute pleasure to care for your lovely mum. Thank you again.

Fantastic Care Home! If your loved one is lucky enough to get a place in this care home then you can rest assured they will be well looked after and treated to the best care. My mum has been here for over 7 years and the staff are amazing! The care and love they give to her is above and beyond and this
is also extended to our family. I can't thank them enough for the peace of mind it gives me.

We have nothing but praise for this care home.
CARE is the right word, everybody at this home care, not just for my mam but for all the family. The support and help they have given the whole family is immense, nothing was ever too much . Sadly my mum passed but even then the staff were still supporting
us and so kind .
Mam was treated like a person. We always knew she was being cared for from the best, with knowledge and understanding of her needs. Based on our experience I would strongly recommend this home to anyone who has loved ones with advanced dementia.
Thank you just doesn't
seem enough but we thank you from the bottom of our hearts
Tony, Ann and family

The staff are always welcoming, friendly,, helpful and supportive.
Residents are treated by the dedicated staff with exceptional care, respect, dignity and patience.
The welfare and comfort of residents is a priority. Activities are varied and consideration is given to my husband's capabilities and
interests.
Nothing seems to be to much trouble for staff. Any queries or concerns have been answered or acted upon quickly.
I can't thank the staff enough for giving my husband the care I can no longer give him.

My husband receives the highest standard of care on a daily basis and has done for the past 4 years plus. His health has been in a slow decline during that time but I know his life has been greatly extended through the care he has received.
Through frailty, he is mostly in bed but he is never just
left alone in his room for long periods. There is continual checks and interaction. On his good days, there are periods of wheelchair visits to the lounge and dining room for further stimulation.
Though there are professional Mental Health Nurses on site, the Community Health Nurse is on call should there be any concerns that requires further medical attention.
Cleanliness is at a very high standard; first class, award winning catering; wellness and music therapy; hairdresser; a great activities co-ordinator; in-house laundry that works tirelessly; two maintenance men that stops at nothing;
Management that runs a well-oiled home.
Home is the key word as it's
the next best thing. Thank you!

My father is currently residing in Briardene Care Home and the care that he is receiving is 5 star.
Every staff member is amazing. They truly care about the residents and have taken the time to get to know our dad. For example, they asked us about his interests when he moved there (he loves gardening)
and they took him to a garden centre to buy plants to make a hanging basket with him. This is one example of many! Dad goes out on trips for fish and chips (his favourite), there is an activities co-ordinator who involves dad in a number of exciting and stimulating activities. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. They are warm, friendly and extremely welcoming to all of our family. Refreshments are offered every time we visit.
At Briardene, the hygiene levels are outstanding. Dad's room is always clean, warm and cosy. Dad's personal hygiene standards are kept high, too.
We cannot speak highly enough of staff. We feel extremely lucky that dad gets to experience their care.
Thankyou

Mum was here for a few years and was settled here. The care she received whilst she was there was fantastic. They knew her and her needs, they knew her history. They listened to her. They took her out when able. They involved her with activities. Great communication with family. Food excellent. Care
in her last few days amazing, especially care and compassion to the family. All staff lovely. Can't fault.

I have made many visits to see my friend since he came to Barchester Briardene Care Home over two years ago. During this time, the staff have always been caring, compassionate and friendly towards him over this period. They always appear 'for' the residents, irrespective of their circumstances or degree
of incapacity. They always appear self-motivated and positive. They are always very patient with the patients! Working relationships between the staff appear to be excellent too. They are always very friendly and helpful when I speak to them and I really appreciate the cups of tea they make for me.
The facilities are very good and well-maintained to a high standard. Staff always appear busy and this includes caretaking staff who are often seen on my visits.
If I ever succumb to the ailments suffered by the residents at Briardene, I hope that they will find a place for me.
Thank you all for doing such a first-class job for my friend.

I recently visited my mum.
She has been at the home for a few months now and she has settled in very well.
My mum suffers from high anxiety and has many challenging issues linked with the awful disease Alzheimer's which is why she was recommended to be a resident.
I was blown away with the care
Mum and the other residents received on my visit.
The staff interacted with her and the others and you could sense a general feeling of calm and that in itself must be difficult to achieve.
Mum was clean and dressed well and she looked healthy. She always took pride in her appearance and the staff have recognised this and helped her in every way for which the family are very grateful.
On my visit, a singer sang songs from the 50s and 60s, all of the residents, including my mum, really enjoyed it, some of them had a dance and many sang along. It's really nice to know that they have these types of activities.
I would like to thank the management and the staff for the fabulous work they are doing.

Mam has had a couple of incidents which I have been informed of and I have had chance to discuss with the

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.945)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.945) out of 10 for Barchester Briardene Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.945 for Barchester Briardene Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (347 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 366 Ratings = 4.945
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Briardene Care Home is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Administrator

Hello, I’m Lisa and I am the Home Administrator here at Briardene. I work closely with the General Manager and the staff, visitors and families with any queries, problems or questions they may have. I assist with the transitioning into the home, whether it be a new resident or staff member and I am always here to help where I can, my door is always open.

I look after the home’s financials such as Budgets and expenditures, Purchase Ordering, Sales Ledger, Management Accounts and Petty Cash.

I oversee the home's HR processes, recording of staff hours, recruitment and training records.

I joined the team here at Briardene in 2018 and I have never looked back, it is a fabulous place to work where residents and colleagues are now my extended family. I was in the military for a lot of years and coming to work here really helped me settle back into civilian life. I brought with me a vast amount of knowledge and experience in the Administration field as it has been a huge part of my career from leaving school, however, the training I have received working in a Barchester home has really expanded this knowledge.

Claire’s ethos is everyone still has the ability it’s how we unlock it to its full potential to have a positive impact on their life and their families. The families see the positive changes and often comment that they can’t believe the difference in their loved ones. Claire’s individual personality and professional approach inspire those around her showing how anything is possible in Dementia with the right approach for the individual resident. Claire has achieved many awards recognising her hard work and approach to those living with Complex Dementia care needs, these include 3 divisional awards for activities/therapies and 2 regional awards, 1 for activities and 1 for Customer Care.
