First of all, Happy New Year to everyone at Barchester Briardene. Thank you all for going above and beyond at Christmas. Had Xmas dinner with our loved one, and even had a table for two set for my daughter and myself, wonderful. Lovely Christmas lunch. As we go into the New Year, myself and my family would like to express our thanks and gratitude to every one of you, for your excellent continuing care of our loved one, nothing is too much trouble. Briardene is a home from home, so friendly and caring, like one big family. I would 100% recommend this home. Once again, big, big thank you to you all.
What a delight to read your review! We had a great time at Christmas and we are so pleased it was made extra special for you. We look forward to 2024, spending time with you and continuing to support our lovely family at Briardene.
My husband has been a resident at Briardene for only a very short time but I am already impressed with, and reassured by, the care, patience and understanding the manager and her entire team are showing him and his family members. Our daughter and her two young children, who do not live in the northeast, had not seen him for three months and I was concerned that visiting him in Briardene at such an early stage could be upsetting for all. I need not have worried. Staff enabled us all to be together in a small, cosy lounge, an ideal setting, and provided much-appreciated refreshments. My husband has a rare dementia and his journey will undoubtedly continue to be challenging but I feel confident that all the staff will support him and us along the way.
I will make sure that this review is shared with the staff.
My father has been in this home for a year this month and the staff and facilities are first-class. staff always pleasant and caring and so clean everywhere. even took him to Redcar for a day for fish and chips which he loved!
Thank you very much for this lovely review we are so pleased that you are happy with the care your Dad is receiving from the staff at Briardene. I will pass your comments on to the staff. This is very much appreciated.
My husband has been in your care homes and this is for the best, with the staff so caring and helpful.
Thank you so very much for this great review, we are so pleased that you feel confident that the staff are doing a good job caring for your husband. We all thank you very much. I will pass these comments on to the staff who will be thrilled.
My husband has settled in lovely. Finally, we have found a home right for him and his needs after struggling to settle in a previous care home. All staff at the home show kindness, care and compassion in abundance. The home is very clean and very comfortable and the staff know their residents and their needs very well. My husband is very happy which gives me peace of mind. Nothing is too much trouble for the residents and families. Thank you very much for everything you're doing it is wonderful.
Thank you for this wonderful review. It is so nice to know that your husband has settled in well and you are pleased with his care. We are happy he is now somewhere where he is comfortable and we are establishing a great relationship with him. The staff will be so pleased to read your very valuable thoughts. I will pass your comments on to the team
I am very happy with the care my husband is receiving. He always looks clean and dressed nicely. I am mostly impressed by all the staff, everyone is kind, happy and very caring and supportive. I could not ask for more.
Thank you for taking the time to complete this amazing review; we are so happy that you are pleased with all the care your loved one receives at Briardene. It is reassuring to know that you are happy with everything we are doing. I will pass your lovely comments on to the staff.
My husband has lived in this care home for over two years now and his care has been excellent. He was taken to hospital in March and I was told he was on end-of-life care. He went back to Briardene and was put on palliative care and nine weeks later he is still there. I cannot praise the staff enough. Every one of them is so caring, friendly and happy in their work. My husband's room is always clean and his food is adapted to his needs. Fantastic care home.
Thank you so much for these words. We have a great team of staff who can respond to care needs, whatever the situation, and we know they have excelled in promoting recovery for your husband. It is a delight to look after him and we shall continue to support him and you. I will let the staff know how happy you are, and they will be so proud.
Briardene: Part of my life for 11 years, rated as outstanding because it's true. The staff are trained to give the highest standard of professional care but gradually develop empathy, understanding and that vocation that surpasses the words work or job, true. A resident's personal care, room and physical and emotional well-being are supported by a team of cheerful people who take pride in their contribution to making life as comfortable, involved and active as possible, true. Individual needs are monitored, discussed and catered for. Staff designated to individuals to ensure information and records are updated correctly and available, true. Communication with families is prompt, inclusive and reassuring because of all of this the quality of life has improved and extended, they go the extra mile. My journey with the staff of Briardene has now ended, at the beginning I was anxious until I trusted them, gradually a great weight lifted from me and I could see a way forward. We were both 'looked after' by Briardene, all true.
Kath, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for this beautiful review, thank you for allowing us to care for your husband who is missed every day by all of the staff. Your words mean so much to us and we will always remember your husband you and your family with a great deal of affection....
My dad got moved to this care home in December, and he has never looked better and so well for a long time. The staff and management are amazing and cater for all my dad's needs and well-being. Each member of staff knows my dad on a personal level. As a family, we can have peace of mind that my dad is getting the best possible care and is in great hands; thank you, Briardene Court; you are amazing.

My husband has specific and challenging needs which I believe the staff cope with well and continue to care for my husband with a smile. Staff are kind, caring, well trained and lovely. Always offer us a cup of tea.
Thank you so much for this Irene. It is a delight to look after your husband. He brings a smile to our faces with his lovely personality and special ways. We will always have the kettle on for you!
All the family feel that the staff are extremely helpful, well trained, kind, caring and sympathetic towards my grandad. They care for my grandad like their own family and always know what's going on in terms of his illness. Always happy to talk and discuss my grandad. Always happy to pick up the phone.
Thank you very much for the lovely comments and that you feel your grandad is well cared for at Briardene. We pride ourselves in the care we give to our clients. The staff will be thrilled with such lovely comments.
Kind and professional staff who have made my dad's transition seamless. He loves it here, and he has improved massively in a short period of time.
It is a great pleasure to be able to look after dad. We are so happy that he is with us, and he is happy with everything. You have been a great supportive family, and the seamless transition is because we all worked together to make it that way. I will let the staff know how happy you are. Many thanks.
We are really happy that our father is in this lovely home. The staff are fantastic; they are caring and professional and treat my father with so much respect and kindness. The rooms are made like a hotel than an old people's home, modern and clean, and the meals look delicious. We highly recommend this care home.
Thank you very much for taking the time to give the staff and service this lovely review. We try very hard here at Briardene to ensure our residents are given the best possible care. These reviews are a wonderful reminder that we do make a difference. The staff will be delighted that you have taken the time to do this.
My experience with this care home has been excellent. From the cleaners, and laundry care staff, to admin and managers. They are all so welcoming. It is a beautiful home, with always lots going on for the residents. My sister couldn't be in a better place. I am so happy she is in this care home because when she is happy, I am.
Thank you so very much for this amazing review, I will pass this on to the staff, they will be delighted.
All the staff show our mam so much love and compassion. We know she is receiving the best possible care. Special thanks go to one lady for all her support, kindness and compassion. Our family will be forever grateful to you all.

Briardenes greatest asset is its staff who are consistently caring and compassionate. They work hard to retain the dignity and appearance of the residents and always treat them with the utmost respect.

Meet the Team (4)

Hi, my name is June, and I am the General Manager here at the Briardene Suite.

Hi, my name is Kerry and I am the Deputy Manager/Clinical Lead at Briardene.

Hello, I’m Lisa and I am the Home Administrator here at Briardene. I work closely with the General Manager and the staff, visitors and families with any queries, problems or questions they may have. I assist with the transitioning into the home, whether it be a new resident or staff member and I am always here to help where I can, my door is always open.
I look after the home’s financials such as Budgets and expenditures, Purchase Ordering, Sales Ledger, Management Accounts and Petty Cash.
I oversee the home's HR processes, recording of staff hours, recruitment and training records.
I joined the team here at Briardene in 2018 and I have never looked back, it is a fabulous place to work where residents and colleagues are now my extended family. I was in the military for a lot of years and coming to work here really helped me settle back into civilian life. I brought with me a vast amount of knowledge and experience in the Administration field as it has been a huge part of my career from leaving school, however, the training I have received working in a Barchester home has really expanded this knowledge.

Claire Gibson, Dip HE BSc (Hons) Psych and Couns is the Therapy Coordinator and the Head of the Therapy Department, the well-being champion for the staff and The Dementia Champion for the residents at Briardene. The Therapy Team Claire leads consists of an Activities Organiser, a Holistic Therapist and a Music Therapist. Claire supports and guides her team to provide meaningful and enriching interventions that have a positive impact on the resident's Biopsychosocial well-being.
Her approach has very many different levels to it from those residents who can complete a task/occupation from start to finish with minimal support to another resident who may be involved in the group for emotional sensory support using feeling, tasting, smelling evoking memories.
Claire’s ethos is everyone still has the ability it’s how we unlock it to its full potential to have a positive impact on their life and their families. The families see the positive changes and often comment that they can’t believe the difference in their loved ones. Claire’s individual personality and professional approach inspire those around her showing how anything is possible in Dementia with the right approach for the individual resident. Claire has achieved many awards recognising her hard work and approach to those living with Complex Dementia care needs, these include 3 divisional awards for activities/therapies and 2 regional awards, 1 for activities and 1 for Customer Care.
