Main concern - meals and lack of variety. Considering my husband is vegetarian he very rarely is given vegetables. Not given a balanced healthy diet.
Does not use facilities as bedbound so can't comment/rate this. Also, the same for activities. Not being placed in a chair on a daily basis and also
not being showered on a regular basis. My husband has Alzheimer's and cancer and is waiting for his hearing aids and on occasions, care staff have snapped at him which has upset my husband and family.
Reply from Hannah Burke, Marketing Executive at Abigail Lodge Care HomeThank you for your comments. We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback and letting us know how we are doing. All of our staff are committed to providing the best possible care for our residents and we are disappointed to hear that you feel this has not been the case. Our menus are created with input from our residents, reflecting their likes and dislikes. We use food passports to capture any specific dietary requirements or preferences. In addition to our twice-yearly surveys, we hold regular meetings with residents where they can raise concerns or share feedback on the menus with our chef. We take all comments seriously and would welcome you to contact the home manager to discuss your concerns in more detail. Thank you.

My mam is in this home and has got the same care assistants who look after her, they do an excellent job. She laughs and smiles with them, they make her feel at home. Activities are amazing, the women who do this are amazing, they get her singing and doing things, l try to join in as much as l can.

My Aunt receives a high standard of care and is clearly settled and happy in her surroundings.
She is included in activities and particularly enjoys holding small animals during pet visits.
I feel supported by staff who are always helpful and pleasant.

Kind and courteous service was delivered confidently to my Mother. The staff did everything to recognise, relate and respond to residents and their families.
The staff are very supportive and accommodating of family visits.
Thanks for the care and for exceeding expectations.

The staff couldn't do enough for him.

Lack of staff is a major issue. The EMI unit is understaffed. One-one carers for individual residents counted in the staffing number is unacceptable, lack of staff results in lack of dignity for residents who are unable to toilet themselves. My Father is incontinent and is given a clean pad morning
and night but is not checked or changed at any other time of the day resulting in a regularly sore groin area. Again not enough staff-to-resident ratio at meal times for residents who need to be fed. Food served on the EMI unit is of a very poor standard the majority of the time.

I think the care home itself needs an update, there are not plenty of staff on the dementia floor, more so at meal times when some of the residents sit in the dining room waiting for their meals while staff are having to feed those who can't get out of bed. The food in Abigail is not up to standard.
The
staff on that floor do their best.
My husband passed away in February 2024.

My father was in Abigail Lodge from the middle of April 2021 till he was called home on 5th Jan 2024. He had suffered a stroke and Covid which left him with dementia.
The staff were absolutely brilliant with him and also in support of my mother. The staff were incredibly caring and nothing was too
much. Due to dementia, my father presented a number of challenges which they addressed at each stage and he felt happy and contented. The building was always clean and the staff always caring. Nothing but praise for the staff who carry out a difficult job but always had time to help/answer questions.

Since moving to Abigail Lodge in March of this year, my mother was cared for with dignity and respect in a cheerful and positive environment. The staff were both friendly and professional, caring genuinely for my mother. She spent her last few months happy and content, and for this, we are extremely
grateful.

I stayed at Abigail Lodge for the first time in June 2023, to give my husband a well-deserved break. I was quite anxious as I did not know what to expect. I needn’t have worried as I was made to feel very welcome and soon settled in to this “home from home,” helped by the wonderful caring staff. I will
not hesitate to return in the future for respite or permanent residency.

My mam has lived at Abigail Lodge since November 2021. Since being at Abigail her overall physical and mental well-being has improved significantly. She is really cared for and the staff know her likes and dislikes. The difference from when she first moved in to now is amazing and this is all thanks
to the amazing care that is provided. Mam's needs have changed significantly since being at Abigail due to her dementia progressing and the home have adapted their approach to meet her needs. She is happy and that’s the most important thing, I would recommend Abigail to anyone looking for a care home.

On the whole, my wife is happy during her stay in Abigail Lodge, but being confined to bed most of the time can be very frustrating for her. When it comes to the food, there is not a great deal of variety in the menus but the kitchen staff prepared alternative meals on many occasions. Hygiene, should
my wife be washed each morning? Security, how could my wife's wheelchair be taken from her room?
Reply from Katie Barnett, Marketing Executive at Abigail Lodge Care HomeThank you for taking the time to give your feedback. We are pleased to hear your wife is happy with us at Abigail Lodge but we have acknowledged your concerns. We would like to assure you that our menus are created with feedback from residents and reflect likes and dislikes. If our menu features something that is not to their liking, residents are able to request an alternative menu or order something from our Chef's special menu that day. Our home manager would like to assure you that wheelchairs are taken by our night team to be cleaned down each evening and they are often removed to provide more room for our residents. Additionally, please be assured that all residents' hygiene needs are attended to daily. We take all comments seriously and our home manager would welcome the opportunity to discuss your concerns further with you. We look forward to hearing from you. Thanks again.

My wife has dementia and lives here now. Abigail Lodge is staffed by people who work 12-hour shifts trying to do their best and mostly succeeding. They are led by a competent, friendly manager and a team of senior carers who set a friendly, calm and warm tone every day. If there is a problem (and there's
always something) they will sort it themselves or find someone who will. All the carers I have met who look after my wife (I'm in most days) have good hearts and apparently endless patience. Quite remarkable considering how little they are paid. I am fortunate in having free time to spend here, and I am very well aware that most people have to work. Their commitments mean they don't get to visit as often as they would like. However, if they did, they would soon realise that any of the senior staff would try really hard to resolve any upset or misunderstanding if it were brought to their attention. That's the kind of place they are.

Arrived 09/09/2020. One thing to look at is how to keep food warm at the end of corridors! Quite often lukewarm.
Baths were appreciated.

Abigail Lodge Care Home is absolutely amazing. The care staff and nurses are truly incredible at their jobs. My mam came into the Care Home for end-of-life care, all the staff were so supportive and made my mam feel comfortable and cared for. You can tell each individual member of staff truly care for
every resident and do everything in their power and ability to care for their residents as if they are their own family. The room was absolutely beautiful and clean as were all the communal areas. The communication in the home is outstanding, the staff were consistent in giving updates about my mam which made us as a family feel at ease. It is managed amazingly, any questions and there was an immediate answer. I would recommend Abigail Lodge to all my friends and family. What a truly amazing home.

Abigail Lodge is a happy place. Dedicated nurses and carers work together harmoniously and give exemplary care to residents. Each resident's needs are attended to promptly with patience and understanding. Everyone is greeted with a smile and everyone is treated with affection. Extra staff provide stimulating
activities which add pleasure to the day. The building is kept clean and the surroundings are neat and colourful and are kept immaculate by a lone gardener.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.336)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.336) out of 10 for Abigail Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 30 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.336 for Abigail Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (185 Excellents x 5) + (111 Goods x 4) + (40 Satisfactorys x 3) + (8 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 348 Ratings = 4.336
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abigail Lodge Care Home is based on 27 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 27 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
