This purpose-built care home provides nursing and social care for the frail elderly and the mentally infirm elderly.

Accommodation at Abigail Lodge is offered in single occupancy rooms, all of which have en-suite facilities.

Abigail Lodge features TV lounges and a quiet sitting room for relaxation. There are dining rooms available, where residents can socialise with others at meal times. Traditional home cooking using fresh produce is served and residents can choose from the daily choices available. Special diets can be catered for.

On the whole, my wife is happy during her stay in Abigail Lodge, but being confined to bed most of the time can be very frustrating for her. When it comes to the food, there is not a great deal of variety in the menus but the kitchen staff prepared alternative meals on many occasions. Hygiene, should
my wife be washed each morning? Security, how could my wife's wheelchair be taken from her room?

We would like to assure you that our menus are created with feedback from residents and reflect likes and dislikes. If our menu features something that is not to their liking, residents are able to request an alternative menu or order something from our Chef's special menu that day. Our home manager would like to assure you that wheelchairs are taken by our night team to be cleaned down each evening and they are often removed to provide more room for our residents. Additionally, please be assured that all residents' hygiene needs are attended to daily. My wife has dementia and lives here now. Abigail Lodge is staffed by people who work 12-hour shifts trying to do their best and mostly succeeding. They are led by a competent, friendly manager and a team of senior carers who set a friendly, calm and warm tone every day. If there is a problem (and there's
always something) they will sort it themselves or find someone who will. All the carers I have met who look after my wife (I'm in most days) have good hearts and apparently endless patience. Quite remarkable considering how little they are paid. I am fortunate in having free time to spend here, and I am very well aware that most people have to work. Their commitments mean they don't get to visit as often as they would like. However, if they did, they would soon realise that any of the senior staff would try really hard to resolve any upset or misunderstanding if it were brought to their attention. That's the kind of place they are.

Arrived 09/09/2020. One thing to look at is how to keep food warm at the end of corridors! Quite often lukewarm.
Baths were appreciated.
Staff were supportive.

Abigail Lodge Care Home is absolutely amazing. The care staff and nurses are truly incredible at their jobs. My mam came into the Care Home for end-of-life care, all the staff were so supportive and made my mam feel comfortable and cared for. You can tell each individual member of staff truly care for
every resident and do everything in their power and ability to care for their residents as if they are their own family. The room was absolutely beautiful and clean as were all the communal areas. The communication in the home is outstanding, the staff were consistent in giving updates about my mam which made us as a family feel at ease. It is managed amazingly, any questions and there was an immediate answer. I would recommend Abigail Lodge to all my friends and family. What a truly amazing home.

Abigail Lodge is a happy place. Dedicated nurses and carers work together harmoniously and give exemplary care to residents. Each resident's needs are attended to promptly with patience and understanding. Everyone is greeted with a smile and everyone is treated with affection. Extra staff provide stimulating
activities which add pleasure to the day. The building is kept clean and the surroundings are neat and colourful and are kept immaculate by a lone gardener.

Our family is very happy with the care given to my husband. He is very happy in this home and he has made good progress since coming here. He's certainly proved the doctors wrong. Months ago they only gave him 3-4 months at the most. I have difficulties walking as I am waiting for a hip placement op
and the staff here are so good to me. They help me from the taxi to his room, then on my return home, they help me again. Sometimes when I've been a bit upset they are also there with help. The only downside is the laundry staff putting other men's clothes in his wardrobe.

I used this website to choose the care for our mam, who had broken her hip but then been diagnosed with terminal breast cancer, so her care costs were covered. On the whole, the staff were amazing and we felt our mam was totally safe and cared for. There were 4 members of staff in particular who were
outstanding, and showed great empathy and care for our mam - the rest of the team were great, however, we did have one incident where mam's dignity was affected, hence the score, but when we reported this, the Care Home Manager did investigate and managed this as effectively as possible, and has used this constructively in staff training. Unfortunately, Mam could not eat properly and was on a soft food diet (blended), so I can't really comment on food - other than it always smelt amazing. The home is a little tired in decor, but the staff make up for this, and at the end, we couldn't have been happier.

My overall review of Abigail Lodge Care Home is excellent and especially the care in my Father’s unit. The staff treat him with kindness, dignity and respect. We have always been made to feel very welcome and feel reassured that my Father is in a kind, caring environment. We have been kept updated on
a regular basis and we were allowed to visit when permitted during the pandemic. We have been fully supportive of any changes in medication, diet or care they have suggested to ensure he is well and safe. The rooms are immaculate and nothing out of place, which my Father likes. The food is excellent and he is very happy with his meals. We cannot praise and thank all of the staff enough. I would highly recommend Abigail Lodge Care Home to any potential resident and their family.

After the last couple of months, I have seen a massive change to my mother's care (all for the better). My wife came to the home directly from the hospital and I was worried as to how she would respond to the move. Arriving at Abigail some 30 mins after her arrival by ambulance I was greeted by her team’s charge nurse and whilst being taken to her room was told she had settled in very well – to say that
was an instant relief would be an understatement. I visited my wife daily for about 2 hours up until the Covid restrictions and was always greeted with my wife appearing looking well dressed and cared for. The staff were always caring, courteous, and lovely in all respects, so much so that I thought of them as extended family members. Having that kind of backup, allowed worries about her care to be secondary to see how her wellbeing was being affected by Alzheimer’s, which I can only say gave me a tremendous uplift to my wellbeing. So all I can say is my grateful thanks to all who played a part in looking after her.

The staff are friendly and helpful also caring. I have found them approachable and communication is always open. Covid has had such a negative impact on the staff and the residents. Hopefully, I will be able to return on a regular basis to visit my lady. Well done to all the staff.

Anyone who has experience of a loved one going through dementia will know how heartbreaking it is to see them suffer. We had decided to care for our Mam at home but sadly it was too much for her and my Dad. Reluctantly we had to put her into care. She has been in Abigail Lodge Care Home now for nearly
two months and we can't fault it. The staff are lovely and caring and the place is calm and peaceful. Covid-19 restrictions are in place and visitors are tested constantly. Most of all though is how content my Mam is. She is happy there and is actually looking better and if she's happy, we're happy. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Abigail Lodge Care Home.

A kind, caring, well run home where everyone is treated with dignity. Mam has settled really well into the care home and this is because of the care of the staff and understanding of Mam's needs. I have also appreciated the support from the staff during this time, as finding and moving Mam into a care
home is stressful at the best of times, even worse in a pandemic. Mam says how kind everyone is. This is so important. She also likes the activities.
